The 2025 CB situation thus far

I agree with this. IMO Ewald has a high floor but it's his ceiling that is a mystery. Ewald has a lot going for him and he certainly could develop into an excellent player. I wanted him in this class.
At the end of the day, who is the last CB we got that had offers from the last two national champions? Who also play great defense.

I’d say that is Howard and Burns. So, Ewald is in pretty good company. If he is the third or fourth best CB we get, that’s pretty **** good. He’d be in line with the absolute best we’ve got in 10 years.

Excellent points. Regardless of his bad games in high school, he has some excellent tools and he is coming here to develop. I think Chevis Jackson is going to be one of the best coaches on staff and that's saying something.

I don't disagree. I think the whole LSU Pickett thing influenced my thinking on the matter. Mario is a beast. He'll get it done somehow. If we get Slime, I'll be celebrating for sure!
I actually feel better that he didn't go to Oregon to be honest that would be hard to flip from. But I feel once these games get started we'll keep climbing and making progress on guys we missed out on in this summer period

Tim Merritt & Amari Wallace are two very good versatile pickups that can play both Corner or Safety.

Missing on Pickett sucks, but it's still early & he will be recruited til ENSD.

If we snag Jaboree today & hang onto him throughout the year, that'll be a monumental recruiting win.

Then, just keep hacking away at Big Bank Hanks recruitment & see how everything turns out by December.

What I really hope for is to see the CB board expand during the season & see some more offers go out. What I've always felt where we miss an opportunity at getting good Corners is by placing all our eggs in small baskets for the whole year & not taking a more scorched Earth approach.

There's good Corners that will be future NFL players that are going under the radar & slipping through the cracks ending up at smaller programs. We should be hawking them down & NIL'in these guys to Death to get flips from these types of prospects.

For example, guys like Quinyon Mitchell, Max Melton, Renardo Green, Elijah Jones, Decamerion Richardson etc.. These guys were not high ranked 5-stars coming out of HS & it's not like they signed with Powerhouse mega recruiting machine schools either. But they all ended up as very good Corners & getting drafted within rounds 1-4. The same thing is gonna happen for the 2025 draft, there will be at least 10+ Corners from none playoff schools who were not highly ranked or heavily recruited who get drafted in the first 3 rounds.

Those are the kinds of prospects we should be evaluating & hunting down the stretch by the time December comes around.

Is Merritt not a current commit either?.

Idiots on here are treating Ewald and Merritt like they're Manny recruits. They're not Pickett, Hanks or Antoine, so we don't want them, they're JAGS. That's absolutely ridiculous, of course. Their highlights looked quality to me. Not elite, I'll grant that. But very good with a lot to work with. And Guidry and Jackson have wanted those kids for the outset. I'll take their opinion over any internet hero's.

I'm a huge Merritt fan. Think he can be the steal of the class. Great fundamentals and he has been coached very well.

I've wanted Ewald in this class since before the ink was dry on the 2024 class. Kid is smooth as silk with the potential to be a lockdown CB for us. So he had a few so so games in high school....So what? So happy to have him in this class. Just wanted to supplement these kids with whale types that could come in and possibly start or contribute year 1. The commitment of Slime Antoine really takes this class to a different level.

Comments such as these are the very point of this thread! Insightful, informative and intelligent. Thank you @Memnon for your substantive and positive contributions. I know you are just a fan with your opinions but it's posts like these that make you so appreciated.

For us to potentially say that Ewald is the worst corner in our class shows you how elite this class could be come Dec.

Does anyone else think Pickett is James Williams part 2? Tremendous athlete, but doesn't seem like a sure thing at CB and not convinced he fits at S. Not saying Pickett is a 15-yard penalty waiting to happen virtually every play...

No because Pickett is in a different stratosphere athletically, not just in terms of testing projections but also with how he has produced at WR having come off a 1,000 yard, 15 TD year at Zephryhills in 2023.

Williams was a 5* mainly because of measurables who wasn't twitched up athletically and always had speed concerns. He ended up running a 40 at the Combine (4.65) that was slower than the times for both your average modern day SS (4.55) and OLB (4.60) in the NFL.

Pickett has posted sub 10.7 in the 100m both two months ago and multiple times last track season. His best times this year (10.69) and last year (10.62) translate to an approximated 40 time between 4.43 and 4.46 at 6'4", 180 pounds. Far better lateral movement and top-end speed than Williams had.

Pickett should become either a lockdown corner or premier ballhawking FS. Williams' ceiling was as an off-ball, non pass-rushing LB which is a far less valuable commodity in today's game.

I definitely was not referring to you when I wrote "idiots" my man.

I would've preferred him committing to Oregon over L$U and Corey Raymond. I believe that it would be an easier (not easy) flip.

Sorry man, Hard No comment wasn’t meant to be dismissive. I had just written why I liked Pickett vs the risks I saw with Williams in the Antoine commitment thread and didn’t want to repeat it. Your question was a fair one.
