Team Reaction to Kaaya

I have no clue if it was intended but I took the reactions as just "football talk or business like".

Check time of possession last year. We were UNDER 26 to the other teams' 34+. Now tell me the O wasn't running the D into the ground. They were playing more than half a quarter more per game than the O, because the O couldn't convert 3rd downs. I'm not saying I like the D performance, but when you are thin on depth, talent, and experience, being on the field 34+ minutes a game will take a severe toll.
Kaaya wont be worse than morris. That dummy lost the team and the defense was partially run into the ground because of him.
Stupid **** like this boils the blood. Defense ran into the ground because of No D.

While I would have phrased it differently, I agree with the notion that the O ran the D into the ground. Its not srupid if its the truth
As many 3 and outs as there were - they were just gassed all too often.
I saw the same **** under Coker and Shannon. And way worse at times in Shannon 's first season

If the O can convert 3rd downs, we'll win 10 games this year, and the D will magically look better. If we don't, and time of possession stays around 26 minutes, our D will improve minimally. Minimally will not make anyone happy.

Ive been saying this for years until ifigured out we need more dts, but they did get gassed alot cuz they couldnt get off the field on 3rd down. I actually agree with both of u guys, Morris was awful if u took the deep ball away n dnoh is not good.

Is this why the team doesn't seem excited about Kaaya?

Maybe heaps was making more plays in their estimation

Players know Kayaa success depends on them being perfect. Kayaa will lead but it Will be more a team effort rather then the qb leading. Our skill players will play harder to help Kayaa. It's going to be awesome to see.

Part of the issue with the players is that they found out from the media rather than their coaches. They were put in a bad spot to answer questions about something/decision they didn't know about. And let's face it who wins the starting QB battle is a big deal for the team.

IMHO The players should have been told before the media.

Nailed it.
Next topic.

Those boys want to win. I think they, like me, are very skeptical about putting any true frosh behind center in that environment. But, you got to defer to the coaches. Really ballsy move and no way they make it unless Kaaya is the goods. If he wins this game and performs admirably, this team will go to war for that kid.

I find the players' reactions a bit puzzling given what has been said by those who watch practice. Usually, you want to ride with the guy who's playing better, but I do understand that these guys probably think in absolute terms like "older and experienced is more likely to be successful in X situation." I don't find that to be necessarily true, but I understand their perspectives.

I think the "older = better" is pretty consistent across most football players. You'll find that in college and in the pros with vet guys that want to win now. It's logical; I get it.

It's definitely a lukewarm response. What gets me is Coley's "night and day" difference in one week. That sounds like bullsh1t to me and gives me some concern.

Lastly, Heaps must be awful. I wouldn't be surprised if Williams supplants him this season.

I can understand why the players are not really feeling Kayaa. They want to win now and you never know how a freshman will handle the pressure under the lights.

Heaps need to be ready because Kayaa will have a short leash.

no he won't

On Monday night he will. You best believe he will have a short leash. The unknown variable is how a player responds when the lights are on. If he gets rattled they will pull him.

Nothing against Kayaa but you don't leave him out there to tank. If our defense is getting shredded again our QB, whoever it is needs to ball out.

You think Pertrino is not going to come gunning for Kayaa?

Golden said today the competition is ongoing so yes, there could be a change if necessary.

For all you ****ees who gave me **** about saying Kaaya would be the guy and that Heaps is insurance. Suck it. It was clear who was better.

If people were genuinely being ******** about that and not using logic (which could be used in this battle) then they aren't worth addressing anyways.

Lukewarm reception to the news. That is obvious. The players probably wanted the more experienced QB against Louisville. They remember what happened in the Bowl game last season. It was ugly.

Good point but what are the older players basing it on? They played with our last two experienced QBs

I'm sure the players are measured in their responses as well because of Heaps. It seems Heaps became pretty friendly with a good deal of the players. You can see it when one of the responses ended with "that's not to say Jake doesn't do that either." I'm sure most players felt confident with both QBs, and so the revelation didn't carry as much weight.

but who knows.

They were probably shocked that a decision was made as they had not been notified yet on who won. Y'all taking too much in from those comments. Kaaya is better than heaps end of discussion. The only thing heaps had over kaaya in the beginning was pre snap and being vocal. Everything else was in kaayas favor. Once he corrected the communication things he ran away with the job. He is definitely better than he heaps. Some of y'all need to stop worrying so **** much lol
