the difference between this season being more like 99( where UM went 9-4) or 2000( when they were national title contenders).

I think it's this simple, beat the Gators and this team swells with confidence and is a threat to anyone on their schedule( which is laid out very nicely this season) but if they lose, well, who' knows?

This game is at home, they come in healthy and this perhaps the best team UM has had in years. This game is huge in so many respects. I think it's one of those games that can potentially have ramifications far beyond the afternoon that it's played on.

But back to my original statement, do you agree or disagree?

Yes, but with the caveat of this schedule being slightly tougher than we anticipated.

I wholeheartedly agree as I believe UM has always fielded very emotional teams that for better or for worse carrythe weight of the tradition and local expectations. Everyone forgets that even for our 2000-2003 teams we would be throwing stuff and act upset over some of the performances, yet people forget and act like the mistakes we make today are not the same as that were made yesteryear. Last year I saw a very emotional team that played their hearts out for FSU but were just not physically ready or capable as FSU just had more depth over the long haul of the game. I believe this team is capable, but has to play with tremendous focus, and we may need a little bit of the old "wide right" magic.

So, is this the Penn State game from '99? We win that game, and '99 is probably different. We don't lose to ECU the next week and probably don't get blown out by VT. We might have even beaten FSU in that 31-21 game that was tied 21-21 in the 2nd half.

So, the answer is yes.

I think there is plenty of talent on the team, but I have yet to see 11 killers on the field at once. Im waiting for that "Oh ****" moment, where someone just absolutely murders an opponent or takes one to the house when it matters. We have really **** the bed lately when it comes to the spotlight. I am optimistic and hopeful, but just not sold on Al manufacturing a killer instinct. He's too Joe Paterno, grooming men of nobility, and not enough Jimmy Johnson, holding 50 angry pitbulls on leashes feeding them scraps.

Absolutely, and further to your statement, I had a coach on that staff tell me that he thinks if Davenport doesnt( forget that key word the first time) get hurt at the end of the Ohio St opener, that team could've gone undefeated. That his ability to wear teams down would've been huge that year

Agree....the sheer impact (both short and long term) that it will have on recruiting alone makes it a huge game.

We win this game and there's a pretty good chance we stroll into Tally at 7-0 and ranked in the top 10.

Lose this game, and like you said....who knows. That North Carolina game could even leave us at 2 losses heading into Tally.

I want this one really bad. We NEED this one really bad.

Look, we all want to murder the Gators. We all hope to go out there firing on all cylinders and put a whooping on them. And by God, I certainly hope that we do.

But let's get one thing straight.......winning this game does not get us to the ACC championship. It means nothing to our ACC record.

I truly believe that win or lose, the team must stay focused on the ultimate task....and that is getting to the ACC Championship, then hopefully winning it and getting to a BCS Bowl game. This would be huge, for both the team and ESPECIALLY recruiting.

But it would do us no good to beat the Gators, have us celebrating over this victory and then lose one of those trap games vs the likes of a Virginia, Pittsburgh, UNC, GT, etc.

Whatever happens this Saturday, I hope Golden keeps this team concentrated on what truly matters. Winning the ACC.

so in 3 or 4 years we are due for another Greatest of All Time college football team with about a thousand future pro bowlers and a million NFL 1st rounders?

I'm sorry dude...I just can't buy one word of that. There isn't much I would trade in return for a guaranteed victory this saturday.

Since when was winning the ACC the goal? The goal is to get back to consistently being a top 5 team who competes for NC'S. You compete for NC's by stockpiling the roster with blue chip talent. It becomes easier to attract that blue chip south florida talent when you beat your most hated in state rival who also happens to recruit the same state well.

Give me a win on saturday...all else be damned.

Hard to disagree with that, especially since i think Miami will be a threat to anyone on the schedule regardless of the outcome of the Gator game. I mean other than FSU i don't think any team after UF can boast of having so much talent and an early loss can sometimes spur a team on to better things (the '83 team can attest to that). If anything, the concern might be that after beating the Gators the players might get caught up in the hype and become overconfident, thinking they can just roll over any team that isn't ranked and making themselves ripe for an upset.

Regardless of the outcome this Saturday, my hope is that coach Golden will keep the team on an even keel throughout the season and continue to take a business-like approach.

Exactly, I can't forsee a situation where UM has some sort of let-down if they beat UF this weekend? And they get a bye on Sept the 14th and two cupcakes the next two weeks after that. Again, confidence and momentum are a huge part of teams and how their seasons play out.

And I have no doubt Al Golden would be on these guys like a great jockey on a thoroughbred, think Eddie Shoemaker going to the whip with a 10 stride lead coming down the home stretch. One of the great Golden-isms is 'Being the same guy, every day." You know he'll be in over drive preaching that one...

Since when was the ACC the goal? Since we entered the **** conference, which we have NEVER won. It has been almost 10 years since we have been to a BCS Bowl.

So let me get this straight, you would prefer an 8-4 season, beating Florida but not making the ACC Champ.....instead of a 10-2 season, losing to Florida and let's say UNC, getting to the ACC Championship and winning it???

I guarantee you that if you ask that same question to Golden himself, he would tell you he would take the 10-2 season and winning the ACC.

We're on polar opposites dude. I can't agree with a word you're saying. Agree to disagree and leave it at that.
