Talent at Louisville vs Miami

I'll take the talent over coaching any day. The problem with the Canes is most of their talent over the last 7-8 years has not produced like 4 and 5 stars. Call it laziness, lacking work ethic, losing focus. Whatever. Point is, when you have talent producing at the level that they should, talent usually prevails...

Petrino vs Golden is weighted more than anything you just said IMO
I call it pure bad luck and coincidence that our 4 and 5 stars haven't panned out under the last 3 regimes while teams like Louisville got lucky and just happened to grab up the 3 star guys we didn't want and those guys turned themselves into very productive players.

I like our chances in this game guys.

The defense will definitely be better. I think it can be in the Top 30 range, which should be good enough. We got Wyche, Moten, Thomas on the DL plus probably the best secondary in the ACC.

Plus, the biggest thing is that we have Duke back. Killed us not having him the last 4 games.

Healthy Duke + upperclassmen + Wyche. I'm optimistic.

I think this is fair. Adding on to the above, I think a big loss for us was Figs. I really think this kid was an aggressive LB (clearly), who was going to start and he will be missed this season.

As for Duke, it couldn't have hurt to have him against VT, Duke and UL. Hopefully he is healthy against UL because we need him to have a big day...a big day...a big day.

McGahee is correct. Our defense has steadily improved albeit a little slowly for some fans taste. UL will struggle terribly on D trying to install an entirely new system.

UM doubles them up--42-21.

Nope. Our guys will come out breathing fire, and we've got the best player in college football back. Duke will score 4 times, and Heaps will be the distributor we missed last year . Petrino won't have that offense clicking on all cylinders in the first game.

No way we would have lost 4 games in the second half with Duke. **** against FSU he almost had 100 yards before getting injured. And if that one run wouldn't have gotten called back..

We were decimated when he went down. He could have hung 200 yards on fsu that night. I'm telling you this. If he doesn't get hurt, we win that game. It had the feeling of an upset brewing.

We might have had a little letdown after beating fsu and lost a week or two later just because the team wasn't ready for that sort of success. But it would have been a completely different season no doubt.

You had a feeling of disillusion.

Todd Grantham was considered by Georgia fans in the same way we consider Doritos. Same complaints about scheme and incompetence. Now he's at Louisville with lesser defensive players (they lost a ton in the draft last yr.) and I expect both defenses to be a **** show. This game might come down to whoever wins the turnover battle as its the first game of the season and both teams are likely to make mistakes.

YESIIRRR you hit in the head

Here is what their QB did in the UL spring game: 32-of-37 passes for 542 yards and four touchdowns

All of this after Petrino had been there only a few months. We are going up against one of the best college football minds/coaches of this generation. If he doesn't chase the NFL dream and stays in college I believe he would have had at least one mnc by now. Unfortunately for him, his character hasn't really allowed a top school to take a chance on him.

We need to have 15 or so guys play disciplined yet aggressive on defense and a QB that can just distribute, be efficient, and make the defense pay when the opportunity presents its self. If that can happen, we'll have a chance to win a game in front of a tough crowd. If not, the result won't be much different than the bowl game.

Against their 2nd string defense... By the way name me the last really good Petrino defense? This game will be all about ball control and eating the clock up while scoring every chance we get. Keep the ball out of their hands and we win going away.

Miami has to win this game. I think Miami will have more "raw" talent on the field than their counterparts on both offense and defense.

I fully expect an ugly game, win or lose.

Louisville's oline is not a strength

Their depth on defense is atrocious.

Charlie a Strong left at the right time.....yes Loserville does have some WRs, and their corners are pretty good.....but that's where it stops as far as top end talent.

Nah....

They have Jake Smith, the third ranked center in the draft

They have John Miller, the eighth ranked guard in the draft.

They have Jamon Brown, the fourteenth ranked OT in the draft.

(for comparison's sake, Shane McDermott is the 13th ranked center and Jon Feliciano is the 13th ranked guard)

That's three future NFL offensive linemen they have lining up against us. Gotta respect that.

Naah..you're wrong.
If you even read Louisville boards they will admit that their Oline was a liability last year....and isn't a strength this year. Their oline is not as good as you say....but keep reading your NFL draft sources that are usually not too accurate before the season starts. In fact Jake Smith is currently scheduled to be playing guard next season...his supposed natural position according to the Louisville folk....currently....and things could change but right now they have a former walk on penciled in as the starter at center. Additionally, after the season they had 3 backups, some of whom saw significant playing time last season, leave the team leaving their depth a mess.

And where does this NFL draft source put E Flowers? Thanks for not bringing him up in your argument too.
Thanks for playing though

For the record out of the 3 transfers, only one of them saw game action the entire season and he didn't see the field the final 5 games of the season. While it is true that their online wasn't consistent in run blocking last year, I would hardly call returning 3 seniors and a redshirt junior a liability bro. Petrino stays in the juco circuit so he has brought in some bodies for depth. UL fans aren't the least bit worried about anything offensive related under Petrino. Just thought I'd share some insight bc I actually KNOW what I'm talking about!

How many teams "like Louisville" are there out there?

Fact is, Charlie Strong was one of a kind. He found diamonds in the rough that nobody else saw.

Here's another fun fact about Charlie Strong and Louisville. Every single one of their players who was drafted or who is projected to be drafted, who was a 3 star in high school (not a 5 star like Teddy who everyone wanted).... EVERY one of those kids is from Ohio and Kentucky, NOT Florida.

It's complete BS to say like Luke does that Louisville is built on the South Florida kids that we didn't sign. Utter BS. The only S Fl kids making much of a contribution there are the kids that we wanted very badly but missed on. The vast, vast majority of their most talented players were local.

So it might just be as simple as this.... Rivals underrates kids from areas like Kentucky which aren't traditionally good at high school football.

Nope, Morris would have blown the FSU game. He was already on his way to blowing it before Duke went down.

Nope. We were on the verge of getting it done. The Duke injury completely decimated the team's psyche. Jameis was struggling worse than Morris early on.
