Syracuse v Pitt Game Thread

Appreciate you putting it on wax so people can see. I dont think people realize we are acc worst, worse than stanford, nc state, wake. This is not a 1 player issue. You dont look THAT bad just off one player.
The D is bad, but they have also played 2 of the top 5 ACC offenses (and we are on of the top 5) out of 3 games. I suspect they will move up a bit over the next several games, but still be in the bottom 3rd of the league - It's crazy how bad they screwed up DB recruiting over the last few years.

What's pretty crazy is that Clemson is averaging 42 pts per game (overall stats - not just conference) after only scoring 3 points in their first game; although they have played the bottom 3 ACC defensive teams

Saw it was 3 in the first half lol guy was seeing ghost
He was throwing to covered guys almost all night. Credit to Pitt’s defense but his WR and TE did him no favors. They didn’t try to run as much as they probably should have. While Pitt shut that down a lot they did have a few nice runs. Maybe keeping at it would have helped the pass game. I think they panicked when the got down a few scores

Just to add, 3 of the 5 picks literally bounced off his receivers hands. The OL was horrific- he had no time to throw or do anything.
They have two losses- both coming after a bye…. Sound familiar?
I still think we'd win. But we'd never get those lucky bounces like last night. Bye week blues...

There is some legit concern about the scheme. Running a DL stunt on 2 and 2 that clears out the entire left side was just beyond dumb. Led to an easy 46 hard TD by Brown.
I’ll have to go back and watch that. I’d imagine someone else was supposed to fill that and it didn’t happen. Defense 101 filling gaps and lanes. There shouldn’t be any scheme that willingly leaves a wide open lane. Probably related to eye discipline and flowed wrong.

In theory, stunting against an OL like Louisville where they like to pull and shift the LOS, it makes moving targets and generates blown blocking assignments and free lanes for the LB to make a play. So 2nd and 2 you’re probably looking for a negative play to get them in a worse 3rd down situation.

The main thing I saw was the they gave McCord very little time and he had to rush throws into tight windows. A lot the interceptions were tipped passes. There were a couple of jumped routes because of tight coverage but it was mostly McCord being too confident in his ability to squeeze the ball in there or making less than perfect throws while under duress. Their best receiver is Gadsen but he is a TE and it seemed like most of his routes were down field. They bullied Gadsen. I think he went out with a concussion. Gadsen is good but it takes to much time for him to get open downfield and the pash rush wasn't giving them any time. They got down early and had no running success became one dimensional, McCord threw almost every down.

It was not the call, we were in fact put in perfect position. Tyler Baron and Mauigoa were right in the hole (pause), #7 was completely free behind that to clean up if they missed. I will leave this here, tell me what you would guess happened on this play if you didnt already know the end result;

Can't remember it. Did he evade Kiko and Harris due to mistackles for a big gain?

I was watching other sports but 3 pick 6s? Did i read that right?

THe highlights are insane. Not only did he throw 3 pick 6s but he also threw another 2 INTs. McCord first 3 drives were INTs that have Pitt 17 points. The game was over before it started

I missed this game, I was looking forward to watching this game and expecting a shootout. Then I looked at the score and assumed Pitt just dominated Syracuse. Nope, just McCord being McCord, wow he was bad. 5 INTs and 3 pick 6s. Pitt only had over 200 total yards. Big win for Pitt for their upcoming showdowns against SMU and Clemson

Miramar own Desmond Reid 11 carries for 47 yards, (1 fumble).

Glad you posted this here because I planned to say the exact same thing. Rewatching the game, this was a perfect play call, but bad execution. The twists we were running were meant to disrupt Louisville zone blocking scheme. Which this play perfectly shows, however the problem here unfortunately, was Kiko. There’s an old coaching saying, “DAMMIT SON, NEVER HAVE 2 D**KS IN ONE HOLE” (pause)…..in this case, Baron twist correctly and kiko is meant to be in the gap over 1, in between mesidor and the guy blocking Baron. He’s in the wrong gap, and that’s exactly where the run breaks. Harris takes another terrible angle and isn’t there to clean up the issue and live to see another down.

Guidry, for the most part has been calling a good game, there’s a few fire zone play designs I disagree with but mainly the calls are correct but the guys are not playing the proper technique or missing assignments. For instance, DPJ is seriously losing himself money by not playing better in the slot, due to his size (pause), that’s where he would be more slated in the pros but he’s been terrible aside from a few plays. He leaves a lot to desired, hopefully he can get it in his head that he has to lock in instead of feeling like he should be an outside corner.
