I see a lot of similarities between our Canes and the Houston Cougars. They have 4-5 guys that average double digit points per game and that group is led by Sasser (who averages around 17+ ppg and is deadly when he gets into a rhythm). One of our keys will be devising ways to slow him down. If we can do that, we have a shot to keep them under 85 points. They are athletic, fast and create turnovers by playing press man on D. When they get a rash of turnovers that's when they blow games wide open (very similar to what we did to IU tonight and Drake at the end of that game).
The tallest guy on their roster is 6'9". They have some size on the inside but nothing Norchad can't handle (he plays much bigger than his 6'7" size when he's fired up like tonight). Norchad will play an absolutely crucial role in this game. Rebounding on both ends of the court & turnovers will be super important.
Houston is going to score serious points. Our shot selection will need to be very strong (cannot be wasting opportunities) and we'll have to be tenacious on D and create more turnovers than them to win.
We match up well with Houston. Our guys must play a super smart game & help their teammates out through strong off-the-ball movement to beat the press & avoid turnovers. We can absolutely win this game if we come out loose & firing and play the same way we did today against IU.
This game has the potential to be one of the most fun & intense games in the history of Miami basketball. Buckle your seatbelts as it should be a wild ride. Go Canes!!
