Swasey to Golden - I see your 40/10 and raise you 50/20

it was more of the players eating taco bell and other **** food and not working out properly. you can workout and not actually WORKOUT. going through the motions doesn't get it.

I distinctly remember an interview with DVD back in the day when he said the team was on the Papa Johns diet. Lots of people thought it was funny but there were a few of us that wanted to puke.

Swasey is a puppet and is only as good as his head coach. He has no ideas or plans of his own.

Part of that may be true but it sure as **** better not be 100% accurate

It's only partly accurate.

I know a former S&C coach on staff with Swasey from end of Butch to Peach Bowl loss. Program was Swasey's during that time. He thinks - doesn't know for sure - that Golden has made some changes to the player's S&C routine.

I just saw where Swasey said Kirby ran a 4.8 40 in the spring, but now he's down to a 4.6, and he's doing 28 reps of 225. That is absolutely nuts for a freshman LB. I think he's going to get a lot of playing time this year, great speed and strength, you know he's going to be able to shed blockers.

For other players:

Duke Johnson: Running a 4.39 40, back squat went from 315 to 385. Weighs 185-190.

Dillard: Ran a 4.67, weighs 220, needs to get in better shape.

Lockhart: Runs 4.4-4.5

Malcolm Lewis: 4.47 40

Herb Waters: 4.55 40

Chick: 265-270 lbs. 355 bench, 420 squat, 315 power clean.

Tracy Howard: 4.65 40, went from 165 to 178 pounds. Needs a little more weight on him. Great quote from Swasey on him.

"He's already gained 10 pounds (since arriving in the summer) - he was 165 and now is 178," Swasey said. "A lot of it is his heart and will and determination to be the best that he can be. He comes in with a work ethic that's second to none. He's a throwback, old-fashioned, is grinding. You can tell he loves the game. He's very quick, very instinctive, smart, and I think you can put it on me with the speed. I think he'll definitely get faster. I'm not really worrying about that part."

Antonio Crawford came in running a 4.4

So Alex, here we sit at the doorstep of another Swasey thread.

How do you want to tackle this one?

You eat like crap. You perform like crap.

Ask the best professional athletes what their diet looks like.

I saw a special on Tom Brady and he has a nutritionist, strict diet plan (really just healthy eating, not a diet) and as a result he expects to play into his 40s!!!

Tom Brady is a professional who makes millions of dollars. Not exactly a fair comparison IMO.

So who all came in in the spring and had a chance to hit the weights heavy this off-season?

There was that comment made that Randy didn't even feed the players. I forgot who said it or the context, but it was insane.

There was several interviews where the players openly admitted to not eating breakfast, and eating fast food for dinner etc....Nutrition wasnt a priority with the previous staff

These guys aspire to be pro athletes... I think that was my point.
Doesn't matter the sport or level of play either.

Southlake Caroll Football in Texas has a nutritionist and top notch S&C coach where these guys absolutely monitor their diets.

A kid my senior year (QB) bulked up 25 lbs and had an animal senior season.
He always said "my diet has me on this strict diet."
Kid went to Dartmouth on full ride scholly.

Plenty of examples.

And that's one thing Golden asked from our administration was more money for a training table, supplemental support, nutritionist on staff, etc.
He got it and it will definitely pay off in the grand scheme of things.

I've said the first few lines of your post so many times I lost count. I fully expect the appearance of a certain special poster around here to tell you that you/we are wrong. Good comedy never fails.

You make good points. I agree with everything you're saying, I guess I just meant that I can understand why a college kid wouldn't be as dedicated as somebody like Tom Brady. Takes a special mentality to want to do that stuff, so hopefully we're recruiting those kids that want to put in the extra effort to improve, and I think that we are.

He may have gotten a full ride, but it wasn't a football scholarship.

Pretty telling that in one of his first press conferences Golden seemed at a loss for words when describing the nutrition program he was implementing. He genuinely seemed annoyed and amazed that he even had to go that route. When you consider how many big programs he has worked with and been around, I thought it was pretty significant.

I got laughed at by Noches when I mentioned proper nutrition back on Grassy. Super lulzz

You can have the best training in the world and it means chit if you eat like chit.

You may get away with it from time to time by why even bother? If you can gain an edge or at least more consistancy from eating properly then why the **** would you opt not to? There certainly arent any studies out there showing the negative effects of a proper diet on an athlete and as a D1 national championship program there is no excuse not to focus on something that can so easily be fixed.
