Unfortunately, my memories of that season involve my dad's health. He contracted acute interstitial pneumonia a few days before the opener against Boston College. Dad couldn't afford that, not with pulmonary fibrosis. Dad was released from the hospital in time to attend the Bethune Cookman game, albeit in a wheelchair. We had hopes he might improve in time for the NC State game but it went the other way.
Dad died on the morning of the Florida State game, October 20, 2012. He was a lifelong Canes fan who attended virtually every home game from freshman year in 1951 forth. Dad had three degrees from the University of Miami, including a doctorate. It was more than a bit sad and numbing for me when the season ticket renewal arrived in his name a few days ago.
