In todays game, SC is crucial. That's all that needs to be said. We have a middle of the pack guy in Swasey and it shows. Our nutrition and supplement program is a complete joke as well. Hopefully Blake James upgrades some of the departments that aid in the football development.

Our nutrition program is a joke??? Are you serious? Have you ever spoken to Dr. Musto? Did you even view the video that Hurricanesports.com did on him and his work with the team? I am a retired physician and I was extremely impressed with his work. So much so that I initiated a conversation with him first via twitter and asked him several questions about his approach. He is the real deal and we are not where he wants to have us yet but to say our program is a joke is moronic.

All you have to do is watch the teams playing the last two nights. Does our team look anything close to Sooners/Bama/State/Stanford? To say they have a leg up in S&C goes without saying. I think we are getting better, but we are not there yet.

Let me get this straight. I've been reading threads for years on here and grassy about how weak our bench numbers are and teams like LSU and FSU have 137 guys benching 400+. Now the problem is that we focus too much on bench. Got it. Just want to make sure I'm up on the latest s&c incoherent ramblings.

It would be funny if it wasn't true. We are too little/too big. We work too much on speed and not strenght/ other teams are fast and don't worry about strength too much/ My Gawd it just never ends. I am going to apply for a PhD program at Miami in Neurotic Psychology. Can't be another place in the country with a greater supply of subjects to study.

We do Olympic lifts.

I'm sure the team does Olympic lifts, but it does at least seem that the players are not getting as much out of the S and C program as they should. Though it could just be a lack of talent. Assuming Golden stays, I think how this current recruiting class develops will be a good barometer of where the team's S and C program is at.

talent > strength numbers

Not saying S&C isn't important, but I don't think it's our issue. Our issue lies with talent and coordination.

This.

S&C arguments always bring out the morons.

You must be one of the morons you're talking about

When Shannon was here it was a joke....now ist 100% better, I did not see one time a player struggling with cramps this year in all those silly noon starts...the guys were not winded due to being on the field 70+ plays in every game ( defense here)...I think we are fine in this department the numbers are improving for strength as well...

God**** right.

I will take it further.

Its long been part of my stance when talking about Swasey but we flat out recruited pussies for a long time. We used to laugh (sadly) about some of these guys high school lifting numbers, which you know were still inflated. When Golden got here it was clear he started to recruit guys who took the weight room much more seriously than in previous years. Couple that with big improvements in high school programs, and you have a nice recipe. Now that his classes are starting to mature, I expect to see it look better and better on the field.

Still haven't recruited enough of the talent though.

If you think that video was impressive or puts Musto or our program's nutrition in a positive light you are sorely, sorely mistaken. It is a joke.

some of you need to go see the new Hecht Center visit the campus, meet some players and see with your eyes what we have to offer...it is very impressive, is it Oregon or Ok ST no...but its better than most SEC facilities and top 3 in the ACC when it comes to football facilities... Money is being spent and guys are getting healthier and stronger...please go visit the Campus...

I was wondering when you were going to jump in...

People need to be careful with cause and effect. Other teams look good....they're bigger, stronger, faster. Our team looks bad....we're slow, weak, small. When it comes to defense speed and strength aren't the end all be all. Instinct and reacting quickly are much more important. A smaller, weaker, slower lb with great instincts who can diagnose plays quickly and get to the right spot without hesitation is going to look a million times better than a stronger faster lb who doesn't know his assignments and hesitates. The average fan will look at these two guys and say that the first one is faster and stronger. I think our team was in fantastic shape this year. The problem is that our defense sucks at playing football, not their s&c.

Like I said in the OP. I didn't post the article to bash Golden or Swasey. I simply thought it was a good read and that some of you would enjoy reading it. Is the team's problem S&C, talent, coaching? Who the **** knows, but I think we can all agree there is room for improvement in each of the areas.

For those complaining about the thread, sorry for not posting a thread about the recruits we missed out on, Golden leaving, or who the next coach would be.

Yeah, well, I have about forty years experience that tells me otherwise.

Appreciate the posting. From my own experience I lifted for close to 20 years and switched to P90x years ago. Its usable strength that complements my other hobbies.

Freshmen in Turley’s program do not lift weights upon arrival. Instead, for the first few weeks, they do “body work,” or push-ups and pull-ups and squats or lunges without weights; basically old-school, military calisthenics. “You have all these different genres of training, and we steal from them all,” Turley said. “CrossFit. Bodybuilding. Power lifting. But ultimately, it’s none of those. It’s a system we’ve developed to train football players.”

Our guys our plenty big enough. That's not an issue.
Our strength numbers say that our guys are plenty strong enough. That's not an issue either.
Many of our kids pass the eyeball test.

From my experience...

The main difference between guys who lift a lot in the weight room and guys who can actually use that strength on the field is TALENT.

That's part of it. Read the article it has some good points.

A-freaking-men.

Did people actually watch Oklahoma last night? They weren't big at all. Their skill guys are small, albeit quick and arguably their best defensive player last night was an undersized LB walked down giving Kioudiangpijgrioj (sp), a future 1st round OT, fits with speed. They weren't in Bama's league in terms of size/strength but they played as good a game as they've played all year.
