Stock up players in camp

In comparison, is Ray Ray a downgrade physically to Brashard? Curious as to the potential there.

Guys. The video game is not real life. Cj24 is RB4 AT BEST!!

Yes. We can work 5-7 touches a game in space but martinez/fletcher/allen/lyles can make plays too.

Nobody is saying they can't. And they'll all get the opportunity to. I think people are just saying, not one of those kids have the ability to do what Johnson can, which is run faster than any of the other 21 kids on the football field.

Jeff Demps was outside the Top 250 overall when he was recruited, was 5'8 and 160 pounds, and came in as a true freshman to a team that had won a national championship 2 years prior, was about to win one his freshman year, and went 12-0 in the regular season his sophomore year. So, not devoid of talent.

He had over 700 yards and scored 8 TDs as a true freshman on a team with Chris Rainey and Percy Harvin. Had almost 800 yards and another 7 TDs on a loaded gator team in 2009. Averaged over 7.5 yards a carry both years. But Johnson is an RB4 here? Again, not all players are created equal. Just because you're fast doesn't mean you're great. But this kid is the state champion in multiple track events. There is ZERO reason to say he's incapable of making plays. You have to find ways to get speed like that the football, period, end of story. That's a nuclear weapon sitting on the floor of your hangar that you can't use simply because you can't figure out a way to deploy it. Bull****. I'm not saying give him 10 touches against the gators. But in some of these ACC games, they need to find a way to get him the ball in space, full stop. It's him vs one defender, fastest man wins. I'll take my chances.

With all these outlets talking about these guys, they pretty much all say different names lol. Though OJ is a common name I keep hearing, a lot of different names are said to be doing well. And also, they talked down on some guys who others say are ballin and vice versa. With that said, no one can really say who’s doing well unless they’re at every practice.

QB Emory Williams- I believed Reese Poffenbarger's athleticism gave him an edge for the QB2 job coming out of camp. One factor I may have underestimated was Emory Williams's arm injury, which he suffered in the FSU game. While he played in spring, he didn't look fully healthy and in shape. In August, he looks stronger, sharper and better in all facets and is providing a steady, "do no harm" option as backup QB.

Is he pushing the ball downfield?

I wonder how much the combination of Mario's approach and having guys like X is impacting players like RayRay Joseph. For years we had players with good physical talent that just stayed there. You'd think at some point enlightened self interest would kick in and you would say, "if I work really hard at my craft, I can make myself a lot of money." That new receiver coach higher can't hurt, either.

Feels like we are definitely seeing it on the lines, which is awesome. Hope it catches with the rest of the team.

Cool. I’ll stand on 5-7 touches a game as RB4

Excellent write up. The legend of Romanas continues….

Frédérique is the guy that we never seemed to land in the past…underrated SoFla kid that punches above his “recruiting rankings” weight class. Far too many times were we the team that wind up with 4* kids that punched below their weight class. Hence us being labeled the poster child of Overrated (always there in the Top 15ish for recruiting rankings but rarely if ever there in the top 15-20 poll at seasons end).

Was watching the OSU-UGA semifinal game from 2 years ago and at times I check out the rankings guys had coming out of HS. IMO the play that changed the entire game was when the DB (legally) knocked Harrison Jr out of the game - I just knew this kid was a 5* because he was literally shot out of a cannon and bazooka blasted Harrison Jr at the back of the end zone. Turns out that the kid was a 3* DB from somewhere in Georgia - Bullard was his name I believe. Ended up as a 2nd round draft pick or somewhere in that range iirc

Point I’m making is these (Frédérique/Bullard) are the type of evals we need to continue landing because your entire class gets a major shot in the arm when you nail on kids like these. Kids that are taking high 4*/5* players jobs (in Bullards case).

Nailing on a 3* eval who plays like a Top 100 HS kid can literally transform your team. At first of hearing OJ getting busy on Greentree, I figured he’d flash here or there and make a play….but this kid has gotten praise from Mario/Guidry, his teammates, and now he’s doing it on a consistent level during scrimmages.

I’m officially on the OJ hype train!

Yup. The kind that would end up at West Virginia or Louisville and we'd be making "Man Could You Imagine If We Had These Kids" lists 3 years after they get drafted.

@DMoney are you sure you're not just rationalizing the lack of depth we have at DT when talking up Scott, CB when talking up OJ and S when talking up Quan? I'm not saying they're not good. I just find it discomforting when I concurrently don't hear great things being said about Moten/Horton, Stafford/Richard, or Markeith/Taylor.

I don’t care what “RBX” you want to label him, but until/unless he proves to me that he is completely useless as a player, 5-7 touches per game would be great. Let’s take it as an average of 6. In the regular season, that’s 72 carries or catches. I’m cool with that. Let’s see what he can do with 72 touches this year.

I see a lot of ppl questioning evaluation of Mario on here. That's not a thing to ever question. Now he has other flaws as we all do l, but not identifying talent. Matter of fact I notice something over the weekend most former players are better gms or talent identifiers then coaches. John Elway, John Lynch, Ozzie Newsome, even Jerry Jones. As a player you may not be able to teach the best. But having been in those locker rooms you can I.D. a dawg or a kitten. Some ex players make great coaches but most player can gm aka see real fb talent not just star rankings.

I haven't been all that impressed with Moten. If he doesn't take a step forward this year I think he could be heading somewhere else. Horton has been plagued with injuries. Stafford is a redshirt freshman, but was more of an athlete coming out of high school. So I don't think it's fair to label him a JAG necessarily just yet with him being raw. Richard played last year and has been mentioned at the other corner opposite Porter. Markeith supposedly playing well also. I wouldn't necessarily look at some of the young guys flashy as a negative, but possible we might have finally hit on some guys early.

I don’t know if the staff will get the evals correct or not in the end, but the resources we are being given should let it happen

Some of these lower ranked guys that are a bit controversial with fans one thing I noticed was we would often see them multiple times, in person, and then offer. That didn’t really happen here in the past where we would have all these personal one on one evals with so many players but we have the resources now

Like I said I have no idea how it ultimately plays out, but we have the ability now. Not making excuses for some of our past coaches but they didn’t get what Mario is getting

I agree

I’m glad the staff is leaning into physical traits compared to previous staffs

Really liking what I’m hearing. I think ultimately, playcalling will define how much of that potential we realize. As long as we are not predictable in our playcalling like we were last year, we will be in a strong position to make the playoffs.

I think some of you might have slept on Emory. He was rushed into playing last year before he was physically ready and with a ultra conservative playbook and he kept us in both of those games. The kid is a gamer who will get better each year. I wouldn’t write off the season next year if we don’t land an A-lister in the transfer portal.

I think with that he can produce the way Demps did as you alluded too. We both want him to be an X factor. Maybe im pessimistic on his opportunities given the RB room and the way Dawson has called plays.

The problem with Emory is his ability to push the the ball downfield and even past the defensive line most the time as a ton of his balls were batted down there. His lack of arm strength is as clear as day, and if he is starting for us next year, that’s not a good thing. He’s a back up at this level.
