Stephen Morris

bottom line: stephen morris is 6-7 as a starting quarterback with 17 TDs to 18 INTs and a 57.7 career completion percentage. inevitably someone will say "but 'x' amount of picks weren't his fault" but that can be said for any quarterback. he may be the best we have on the roster right now, but he's simply not very good.

As you alluded to yourself, I'm not sure how being the highest drafted QB makes you "right or wrong" on anything relevant to what he gives us. He has a **** cannon on his shoulder. He's an athlete. His feet are quicker than Kyle Wright's and he's less shell-shocked by pressure. He has a good amount of raw tools. The NFL might see those things and hope to mold a 6th rounder into something. Who knows.

You're somewhat shifting the target by saying "he could do something in the ACC that no other QB has ever done." We've been unbelievably ****** in the ACC. It's not a very high bar. I'm concerned about winning football games that matter. I'm concerned about having a QB who can beat above average defenses.

Nobody's moving the bar. Everybody knows I think Morris is a good QB. I compared him to a more talented Scott Covington. If he keeps playing like he has the past two games, I'll look like an idiot.

I mention the NFL because it's an objective benchmark. And I don't think he'll be a 6th or 7th rounder. I believe he goes in the middle rounds or better. Middling quarterbacks don't get picked that high, no matter their tools (see Kyle Wright, John Brantley, Jevan Snead, etc.)

As for winning the Coastal, that's a very fair measure to see if he's better than the last few QBs we've had. If he fades down the stretch this year and fails to make substantial improvement next year, that pretty much confirms that he's more of the same. If he can finish strong, that's something different we haven't seen in a long time.

The biggest concern I have is inconsistency. That's both game-to-game and throw-to-throw. IMO, he didn't perform badly against the other two Top 10 teams we played. You actually commented on his poise in the KSU game, and in the ND game he was one of the few who was ready to play. The UNC game is what really scares me as a Morris fan. And if he can't finish strong against the flawed teams left on the schedule, I'll be very concerned.

Ya, because I don't think he's as bad as some say and I don't think he's as good as you seem to think. I think, if he gets there, it'd be next year. Right now, I just haven't seen enough evidence of QB play. I've seen a talented guy make some plays. Surprisingly, the one area he's slightly shown flashes in is hanging in the pocket (as you noted my comments from Kstate). However, the two other areas are all over the place. What scares me is that I'm not sure if you can suddenly make a jump in "anticipation" and "touch/feel."

I hope he makes that leap you expect, D. I'm just not confident at all it'll happen this year. Maybe it happens next year.

I am certain you are trolling me.

This is everything, IMO.

Just about anyone can go out there and look credible for stretches.

But you can't be good if you can't consistently bring it, especially against defenses with a pulse.

Where he gets drafted is objective? How do you reconcile the sucktitude of a slew of highly drafted QBs?
