Stacy Coley is a beast thread

Real simple with Coley. If he comes in with the right attitude willing to work hard and learn the playbook he will contribute this year because he's got more natural talent than the guys around him. If he comes in and needs to much de-recruiting and doesn't pick up the playbook, then he won't be such a factor in the offense. Maybe he'll make waves on STs.

Talent is beautiful, but there's much more to doing it at this level than talent. It's all up to Coley because he can be as good as he wants to be.

i dont think you land the best receiver in the state and he not tell you he wont take a redshirt, even in his announcement he said 3 ..... 4 years he is not staying 5 years so a redshirt will be useless

Why is that phrase so hard for me to read? Is that a double negative? So does it mean he will tell you he will take a redshirt?

Moreover, a redshirt isn't useless if he's gonna be behind the pack. Not saying he's going to struggle or have a hard time adjusting but he would'nt be the first player, let alone receiver, to redshirt and leave their RS Sophmore year. Just recently Michael Crabtree and Justin Blackmon did it.

Coley has the most physical talent on our roster right now IMO. what i mean by that specifically is that he has the highest ceiling. i dont think that is really arguable

Hurns, Scott, Lewis are nice. but not game breakers

I think your selling Scott very short he is defintely a gamebreaker and would of had about 700 or 800 yards rec if he didn't miss the last 3 games of the season especially ones were we had defenses like UVA, USF and Duke in which all those games we scored at least 40 points... Scott is a stud and great find 2 years ago by Golden.. He will lead the team this year in yards and tds...

Just got to hang on to that ball. Its not like he can't catch, just needs to keep grinding.

Coley has the most upside in the WR core, if the kid comes hungry and ready to work he's going to play a lot.

At this same point last season, Stacey Coley and AQM, arguably our two most talented recruits were extreme longshots to be Canes. Coley was thought to be a Seminole lock and the majority of our fans had no idea who AQM even was.

Just something to think about.

Those are my expectations too. I know he is fast, just not sure he is as fast as some think he is. He can sure catch that ball though. It could be he plays to his competition, I don't know. Can't wait to see him against college players.

It will be hard for Coley to crack the rotation with WR being 6-7 deep. But if he does make it in the rotation I predict 300 yards 3 TD's and if not he will get redshirted.

I think Cooper is faster than Coley, that's about it!

At this point whoever thinks Coley is going to start this year at receiver is crazy.

it's overlooking the talent Miami already has at receiver.... we dont need a savior this year (or the next) for that position. As great (and hyped) Coley is, to think that he is just going to come in and out play Hurns, Scott, Dorsett, Lewis, and Waters is foolish. I would also bet that Carter and Jones are going to be stiff competition for him to beat out.

I dont know I put him above Cooper coming out of highschool and look what he did his frosh year. Bama recruits better than any team in the country and he started no problem. If Coley plays to his ability he will be starting by the FSU game

and how does a red shirt coley benefit us if he leaves in 3 years?

If you are good enough to leave after three years, you can contribute as a freshman, and you shouldn't be red shirted. We aren't Alabama guys, yet anyway. We can't just red-shirt talent that can go to the NFL after three seasons.

Howard said 3-4 years also.

and he is on track for 4 years, and still could be on track for 3 years. So in his statement he wasn't wrong, at least yet anyway. Time will tell.

But on a side note (this is not directed at you, just something that bothers me in general.), it amuses me when people decide to determine a kid won't live up to the hype because he didn't dominate his freshman year. Typically, the biggest developmental improvement a college football or basketball athlete is in the off-season between their freshman and sophomore seasons. Not everyone turns out this way, and some make their biggest improvement in one of the next two off-seasons and alternatively some never really develop at all. However, we have a lot of **** good talent coming in every single class. That 2012 class has a lot of guys that are going to be really good football players for the next three years. Obviously there is Duke, Flowers and Bush, but guys like Tracy Howard, Kirby, McCord, Jawand Blue, Jelani Hamilton have the talent to be high level football players here as well. They were freshman last season, they need time to develop their skills and athleticism.

This re-building thing doesn't happen over night, we just can't sign a class full of Duke Johnson's and Deon Bush's. We have to be patient, because a lot of guys, especially on the defensive line and in the defensive back field, need time to get bigger and adjust to the speed of the college game.

Huh? I don't see your point. Stacy Coley just made a statement a lot of top recruits make which is his plans are to play 3 years of ball and move on to the next level. However, that is not set in stone and it is extremely difficult to go to the NFL. A redshirt Coley benefits us if he is stuck at the bottom of the depth chart and needs more time to develop. During his RS freshman year you can witness significant improvement.

How does a freshman Coley benefit us if he doesn't get significant playing time?

I'm not saying he will redshirt. I'm just saying a lot of other top recruits do their freshman years and still go on to have tremendous careers. I just gave you examples of 2 All-Americans that redshirted and technically left after 3 years. They didn't benefit their team their 1st year because they needed more time to develop.
