Spring observations after two weeks

In what world is TVD even remotely close to Carson Beck? Like seriously. Beck is better than him at every aspect of the game of football. Mike Ryan said this last week and he's kind of right; If Beck wasn't injured right now, he'd have less questions about him coming into Miami than Cam Ward did. Every single person on this board was worried about Cam's decision making, his fumbling issues, the level of competition he played in, and some of you even questioned whether he could win the locker room over. This time last year, if you were to ask 10 scouts who was the better NFL prospect, every single one would have probably said Beck. Ward obviously came onto Greentree and proved everyone wrong almost immediately, and is definitely the better qb as of today. You know what helped put Ward on the national spotlight, having one of the best offensive lines, WR rooms and running games in the country. If Beck recovers fully, there is no reason he can't put up video game numbers in 2025 with this offense


Carson Beck had one of the worst olines in the SEC, the 110th ranked running game in the country, and his Wrs had the most drops in college football. Yet he still threw for 3,500 yards and 30 tds. I know TVD dealt with some injuries, but his numbers have never come close to that

Overcoming Bobo is right. His two starting years he’s had to be with Bobo, so that’s why I’m very excited to see him with a new OC. I’m getting antsy that he hasn’t started throwing yet though.

We can agree to disagree. McCoy didn’t even beat out Ryan Rodriguez to get the nod at LG last year. He played last year due to injury and was our weak link along the line while Rivers was out. Stamping him as an NFL guy right now based on play is just wishful thinking.

Liked George as a player here, but as a 5’10 170 pound WR who lacks a true vertical speed element, return ability and toughness, he isn’t anywhere near a sure thing to make a 53.

You’re wrong on McCoy. The only reason he didn’t start game one was because he was banged up during fall camp. Those are facts.

The linebackers don’t suck, they’re just isn’t a dude in that room. That’s all anyone is saying and it’s true. There is no alpha in that room that can take over a game and lead. That’s what this team needs on defense and I believe we’ll get one in the portal this spring.

Cam Ward bailed the OL out a ton last year, multiple times even on one play. The flick to Williams, etc etc.

I’d say you got it the other way around, Cam danced around and stayed in that pocket too long holding that ball a lot of times last year and because he’s great, he could make a play, but he never took the check down and that was a problem.

Absolutely correct when it comes To Bobo, he’s a terrible offensive coordinator, and you literally have to overcome him to have a decent offense. Why Georgia, keeps going back to him I’ll never know. Clearly a politics thing there. Beck is going to have an excellent season under our guy because for the first time he’s gonna be starting with a quality offensive coordinator that can get creative.

There are only a handful of “dudes” at each position in the entire country, & they don’t jump in the spring portal.
Players in the spring portal are mostly guys who got beat out in spring. Linebackers usually don’t get beat out because teams all play 3-4 of them.
The good ones who play on bad teams usually leave in the winter portal so they can get their money & start spring with their new team.
I’ve seen the comments about getting starters in the spring portal for multiple receivers, linebackers and Safety. So Miami is planning on getting like 4-5 “dudes” in the spring portal, when it’s mostly leftovers?

All you’re doing in your post is assuming and not stating facts. We’ll see who enters the portal in the spring, and if a dude enters the portal at linebacker in the spring, I would fully expect us to land him. End of the day, we have to wait for the spring portal to see who gets in there, but I’m not gonna spend time assuming because that’s a waste of time.

I think it was true like the first or second year the portal really became a thing. It was musical chairs so the winter portal was everyone trying to grab a seat and yes it seemed like the spring portal was leftovers. I think it was the third year maybe where even D$ had locked that insanely long portal thread after winter claiming he thought the excitement was largely over, then reopened it before spring after hearing about some of the names that were maybe jumping in. Now its just free agency and back door deals so spring vs winter I agree doesnt matter much.

I mean last year alone, werent Sam Brown, Barrow, Martinez and Barron all spring portal people and that was just for us? I think Kayden Proctor was as well, Not one of those guys were not starters at wherever they were and came here and became starters.

Yeah don’t get me wrong the winter portal still seems like the way to go but yeah especially with coaching changes
