Spoke to someone close to the Coley situation (non-Miami)

This could have been initiated by Mario or Coley.

Lets see how it plays out. This was not even a consideration 4 days ago. This is the best assistant coach opening in college football right now.

Good point. Was just thinking maybe Coley threw his hat in the ring.

If this is the case you gotta think that he isn't long for Tally either.

I've very biased here (coley along with Carroll are 2 people who have done a lot for me) but I think he would do a great job and is very bright. Jimbo has his hand on everything and is really smothering his staff.

Not sure how I would feel about this. Would it be a massive blow to FSU? Yes. Would it put us in a better position to compete nationally? Don't think so. Coley's got 1 year of playcalling experience for a terrible football team. I'd prefer a professional playcaller, but that's just me. As usual, I'll ride with GoldenAl.

I see your point/ But as devils advocate You could substitute the name Fisch everywhere it says Coley.

I think Coley would be better Lubick. I think I just had higher expectations for this hire. On paper, the hire is a slam dunk but I have no idea how much Coley had input on that offense. Even then, I would have expected more with that offense based on the talent that was there.

Doesnt Coley run a spread?

This hire to me would depend on what Golden thinks his upside is. Some coaches improve greatly with experience, others don't.

A fella on canesport that has inside on FSU ,Is high on Coley.said Belicheck offered him a job and Saban recommended him for the FIU position.I'm mixed on this cuz i hate a ****ing Nole but guy is a solid choice.

If anything, this would be a solid short term (2-3 year) move. Get another monster recruiter to come in with likely scholly restrictions on the horizon..

i assume golden would make this hire because he believes in coley's potential as a play caller and leader of the offense. otherwise it's not worth it.

Coley would be fine.

Better resume than Jed coming in.

No way. Jedd Fisch, at 34 (when he was hired by UM), had spent 7 years in the NFL -- 2 as an actual position coach. He was also an OC at a BCS school. Coley is 39 and has called plays for one year at FIU, and his time in the NFL was as a quality control guy. I'm not a fan of Coley, mostly because I don't like FSU's offense at all but if Golden hires him then I trust that it is a competent hire.
