This is a stunning loss for me(if true), I have had this kid penciled in as a Cane for years. I understand it won't be over on Friday, but if he ends up at UGA, this is a huge ***** in Golden's armor. I was willing to accept MT and AC due to outside influences, but this kid has supposedly always been a Cane. We cannot let studs like this continue to leave S. FL, completely unacceptable.

Starting Saturday morning I will neg anybody suggesting Golden should be punished for anything recruiting based.
-Sony grew up a Canes fan
-Duke Johnson is one of his best friends and almost a mentor
-He's played with countless guys on this team (SFE)
-He can play here day #1
-Golden has recruited him hard since the day he landed in Gables.

If Sony goes to UGA, it won't be because Golden f'd it up. Golden is the best poker player at the table right now with the best cards... we can't fault him if UGA catches a card on the river.

Also....

Last time Golden's recruiting was called into question he responded with Corn Elder and Derrick Griffin back to back.

Let's also not forget about the 2 and 3 star guys he's evaluated and look like gems.

If Sony goes to UGA Golden got out recruited. It has happen before and it will happen again. To act like Golden is doing everything right is just naive.

And how do you know that genius ? Let us know what Golden has failed to do since you know what went on.

like cane305 says recruiting is a sales job you cant force people to buy your product but if someone didnt buy it then you failed and got beat out for the sale. It happens to every coach in America. Nobody is batting 100 but there are success and failures.

I would say Golden not getting a good high school DT last cycle is a failure period.

I think Golden has done a good job but I was just pointing out he isnt perfect. UF took him to school on Bostwick. The staff had Bostwick locked up early in the football season and didnt show thier hand until the final week. (Golden killed Muschamp in the Tracey battle)

I like the Corn Elder pick up Griffin is TBD I still dont see how he gets in but it was worth a shot since you had the scholly open.

At the end of the day sometimes your staff doesn't win. Not only is it a loss but the head coach has to take the blame.

I still think people are underplaying getting Yearby that boy can run and is just as good as Sony if not better in my opinion.

this is the perfect comment about Golden & recruiting.

We can sit here and say "we need DT's" all day long and pretend we know something Golden doesn't know but he knows it better than us. Give the guy some room, let him work while having NCAA bs hover over his head and enjoy this kick @ss offense we have.

Remember we had 2-3 guys we wanted commit early and flip at the end.. maybe this year it can be the other way around.

I wouldn't disagree with you if you listed things Golden should be doing that he's not.

The thing is.. Golden has done everything right with Sony.

-Has made him priority #1 for the 2014 class since day 1 on the job-
-Stuck by Sony after Sony tore his ACL-
-Has invited Sony to every home game, and when Sony shows up (majority of time) Golden is always making it known Sony is priority #1-
-Has charmed the family-

you mix all that with the fact Sony grew up a Cane fan.. what else could he of done IF Sony picks UGA.

At the end of the day these kids are making their own decision so nothing we can do except try the hardest and if he says no then sucks but you did everything you can. Plus, you all do realize theres 10 months left right? He isn't a UGA lock...........

It's one thing to miss on an elite prospect that is local and grew up a Cane. It's an entirely different when it is at a position we have needs at. We need RBs, plain and simple. Yearby is a great start, but we need another Yearby(talent wise), and missing on Cook and Michel then becomes unacceptable.

You are right it isnt over til NSD, but I never said anything about forcing a commit. AQM, Burns and the examples you gave were recruiting wins for us, and you give credit where credit is dues but it goes both ways. Griffin is still a big TBD recruit. I cant put him in the category of a win just yet...

Sony choosing UGA is gonna be regarded as a fail because of the timing and the relevance of the decision. Sony is a big big name down here that other kids will pay attention to what he does. If Sony announces for us come Friday, the momentum would be huge for us. A signal to other S Florida kids that we have something special brewing and a return to prominence is imminent. If he chooses UGA, then the exact opposite happens, especially in light of what happened last cycle. The fence is down and anybody can come in here and take top flight kids as they please.

Loved Yearby's tape. He's gonna be a player for us. I understand the frustration, but not the logic of the "can't let the kid get away or the class is a fail" people. In April, no less. I'm not sure what else they expect a coaching staff to do that they haven't done. It's not like they slept on the kid. Sony knows the deal with UM. The kid has followed us for most of his life. Don't know if there's anything else we could do to tip the cost/benefit analysis in our favor over a place like UGA. A fan can never totally know what factors a kid considers and how much weight they put in each unless they can articulate it and are honest about it.
