Somewhat Interesting: RB passing targets

The more we talk about Coley the more he starts to **** me off. I know he is an elite recruiter but do not start with the "it's his first year" garbage. He kept Fisch's terminology and some of the playbook. To not put the ball in the hands of Duke Johnson a Heisman caliber player and Dallas Crawford who has been our TD machine is just another sign of D- coaching at its finest.

Statistics don't tell the whole story but we've actually had about the same production this year but have actually played better defenses. We've seen 7 top 50 defenses so far this year versus 6 all of last season.

Good god almighty. Have you seen the talent we have on offense? We play in the ACC for crying out loud. FSU puts Wake away at halftime on the road by 5 TD's and we win at home in the final minute. We have the same talent pool FSU does. Should I keep going?

Care to expound on the similarities in the talent of the guys who take the snaps?

I've been yelling about this since day 1.

With the way people crowd the box on us it just absolutely boggles my mind how we don't run more rb screens and quick angle routes out of the backfield.

It's one of several gripes I have with Coley's system. Color me unimpressed thus far. Homeboy better absolutely kill it on the recruiting trail down the stretch and flip some big fish.

We have the athletes and depth on offense to be an elite offense as all of us thought before the season. Coley is failing to customize his playcalling to those individuals strengths and just calling plays he hopes work. We run the same play numerous times throughout the game. We have run zero trick plays that I recall which yet again shows a lack of creativity.

One team has a heisman winner, the other a 1/2 heisman. (arm)

Would take pound for pound or WR's over any team in the country. Feel the same about our backfield with Duke, Dallas and Gus. They aren't being put in the places to excel and that is the difference.

This. It's just hard to corner him when the Dorito D is like a wet tissue paper of a D and gets torched by middle school QBs

That's because Ono has been a target for 3 years. Easy to attack him, because everyone has seen this movie before.

Coley has been allowed freedom, because he is in his 1st year, but at this point in the season, and gauging what we have seen thus far. Dude is not doing a very good job in too many areas. It's like watching Patrick Nix out there. You know what is coming as soon as the offense hits the field. You here what the plans are for this guy and that guy, and yet when it comes to game day. That **** goes out the door, after the 1st scripted series is a wrap. The offense looks as confused as the defense does after that.

We have a OC who does not trust his QB and a QB who can only throw to sidelines or deep.
I miss the days when we were not infatuated with NFL arms but had good decision makers and good ball placement. Our 2 best NFL arms in Testaverde and Morris were/are not even top 5 QBs we have had.

Winston is the real deal. Jimbo also sets him up for success. Two things with Morris:

1. Coley does not call plays around his stregths
2. Morris like Jacory has zero fear of losing his starting job

Coley should be doing more to help Morris out. That play last week that went to Coley was a good one, but is something that is needed more. Also needs to get Featherstone out of there, and let Sandland give Morris another option at TE. Needs to try and get Morris set up early in a rhythm, with quick passes.

Understood, but as I've said all week. Coley's inability to sustain drives, chew up clock and move the ball is what is putting our defense on the field for 40 minutes a game. You'd think Coley who knows we are weak on defense would find a way to keep our offense on the field longer instead of being the king of the 3 and out. D'Onfrio is putrid but Coley is making him look even worse. Check my stat thread is the numbers in there are staggering.

You also would think Al Golden would grab Highsmith by the Horse collar anytime he grabbed his helmet to run on a field but that doesn't happen either so...

First FSUs defense forced 5 first half turnovers and scored twice themselves. Thats how you put teams away by halftime.

We have nice talent on offense but it isn't elite. We had one elite guy in Duke. There is a reason why Stacy Coley has passed guys on the depth chart already why a guy like Andre Johnson had to wait till year 3 to play. You think UM fans of all fans would remember what elite talent looked like.

I'm not as down on Coley as the rest of the board is. However, I have been screaming as to why we are not running more RB screen passes! The problem as to why we aren't sustaining drives and things related to that is Morris and his lack of running. We saw first hand how Winston and Thomas would escape the pocket and pickup a first down with their legs. I can't find any serious fault in Coley!
