UM paid Coker more than the number you referenced 8 years ago. UM will certainly pay Al a very competitive salary when the time come to give him another raise.i think he loves it here and he recognizes w/in a 50 mile radius of UM lies the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country. but, there is a big difference between 1.5 mil a year vs 3 or 4 mil a year and most would jump at that.
he's not going yet, but, i don't think he's gonna be here 10 years.
This, right here. There is a perception that UM pays pennies on the dollar to it's coaches. Maybe it does in terms of assistants but for the head coach, they are fairly competitive
My take, I think Golden wants to build a brand that he cultivated, guys like him love this stuff. And while he recognizes UM's short-comings, he also realizes that they have the greatest natural resource of talent around that campus( as 5X's mentioned). Also, maybe it's my green and orange glasses, but I get the sense he and his family really like it in South Florida and may want to stick around for awhile
If he's shown to be worth it, I get the sense UM( after years of struggling and being on the other side) will try and take care of him.
But maybe Im just being a pollyanna
