Something to contemplate

Unless the team has a rash of injuries, Al, staff, and team are going to have an excellent season this coming season. What concerns me is what schools like Texas and Bama will do if they begin to look for a new coach after next season.

It's been rumored that once Mack Brown gracefully departs (which could be next season) Texas will throw a ridiculous amount of money at Saban to coach the Longhorns. Well if Saban stays at Bama, or goes back to the pros there is a huge possibility that Al will be a leading candidate at both schools if both slots open up.

I truly believe Al loves it here and knows how much he can win with South Florida talent ( and I believe he really believes in the mystique of the Miami Hurricanes), but a lot of money talks. Tuscaloosa is a dump, but Austin is not too shabby. Does anyone know how much $$$$ the University/Boosters have in their war chest to throw at Golden when these offers come next year. He'll....if we are in the 10 at mid season we should throw everything at him then.

Don't reply if you start throwing out crap like.....Al hasn't done anything.....we don't know if we will have a good season next year.

We are gonna rock the $$$$ next year.

GO 'Canes

Dammit. Can we become relevant before we worry about losing Al. I don't believe he is going anywhere. If we win nat.championship all bets are off but short of that I believe what he FFFFNNN says. Al is a man of his word. He is committed to fixing this PERIOD. Just enjoy the process of the U rising from the ashes and kicking *** again. Save the BS post. We don't need more negative **** brought up. Trying to recruit and your bringing up Al leaving. Either a troll or just not that bright.

Not a troll dude.....just asking a question.....guess you didn't read the bottom of my original post.

Merry Christmas 'Canes Fans

Why are you all so worried about him leaving?

Even if he does, so what? We're the U. No one coach is bigger than the program. If he leaves we'll get another good coach to come in and replace him.

Schnelly left...we got Jimmy. Jimmy left...we got Dennis. Erickson left, we got Butch.

We will always move on and get good coaches here no matter who leaves us or for what

I'm not worried about him leaving....I think he stays......but I'm sure the University and the admin will have to give up some things to Al.

In Golden We Trust!

After seeing him turn down Wisky, I'm convinced he is here to ride this out and take Miami back to the top. After sticking with us and getting us through this rough time, when he wins a national championship, Golden will be bigger than Johnson in Hurricane lore.

The additional revenue that miami generates when it's winning is a game changer. Lets say we draw an extra 10k a game over 7 home games.

That's an extra 70k tickets sold per year. Ticket, parking, concessions, game day merch, that's arguably an extra $7M a year.

And that doesn't include the ancillary benefits and revenue that winning generates. Things like non-game day merch, TV exposure, ACCCG GAME and better bowl revenue, admissions boost, more donations from fired up alumni, etc.

I know it's a ****-stirring conversation starter, but it's never been harder to win here than it is now. Not since the mid 70's. If he get this train rolling, we need to do what it takes to keep him.

I personally think we will lose him one day- to the NFL.

Do what it takes to keep the man. He's stuck through a **** storm that he didn't create and turned down numerous job offers to go elsewhere with a better paycheck. If he takes care of business on the field next year, it's time for the university to show its appreciation and take care of him.

I really don't think he will leave anytime soon. from everything he says, it sounds like he is committed to the long haul, at least another 10 years or so. The "dug in" comment. I still have no reason not to believe anything that Al says and he has always stayed true to his words so far.

I think and hope that the school and administration realize what being a contender for the NC does for your school. Most importantly 2 things: Increases admissions and brings in extra money from donors and alumni. Other than research (which is a direct result of money), those two things are what Shalala has been focusing on the most in her tenure as president of Miami. There aren't a boatload of schools who have the academic prestige, as well as the football program to stay relevant in contention year in and year out.

Maybe Al realizes he isn't going to get paid 4-5 million a year by the time he is wrapping his career up, but maybe Al also realizes that there are some things more important than an extra million dollars a year, creating a legacy and defining yourself as one of the true Miami legends to coach multiple NC teams. ****, maybe even be recognized as one of the greatest coaches in CFB history. He realizes regardless of where you go, it's still a long process to perfectly create a team that can contend year in and out, and hopefully Miami will be the last place he ever does that.

Hey, have you seen the past 10 years? it's because I don't want to go through the ****** coaches we have had. It's not that simple as to go out and get a great coach, who will change your program. Miami has been very fortunate with what we have had.

Al Golden is not only one of the best coaches and recruiters I have seen, he is one of the greatest men I have ever seen. If we lose him at any point, the entire university will have lost a great leader in their community.

lol, i think talking about him being here 10 plus years is crazy. i hope he is.
i know we are all canes fans, but, what UM coaches get compared to other big time state schools or big time schools pales in comparison. it's money, it's perks, it's facilities, it's assistants salaries, free cars, etc.
it's not only less money, but, a higher cost of living here. it's a small private school w/ out the fan base and boosters of big state schools.
and i don't think wisconsin is a better job. sure, more money, better facilities, etc. colder weather, have to recruit mostly out of state, fighting every other big 12 school and ND for midwest recruits.
the UM job is a great job for young hungry coaches who are tireless recruiters and who want exposure. it's never been a retirement destination.
i hope Al stays 20 years (if he's winning), but, it's unlikely. get us back to a top 10 program and there will never be a shortage of young Al's, jimmy johnson's or other guys using UM as a stepping stone and winning here.

Ummmm... Not sure if serious? Did you erase the last 8 years from your memory?

Let me keep the train going: Butch left we got Coker. Coker left we got Shannon. That was pretty awesome wasn't it? Sucking for the last 8 years. Do not for a minute, underestimate the value of a good coach. We appear to have one finally, but make no mistake, IF we lose Al, it's not the easiest thing to replace him...

Let's all settle down and let the chips fall where they may. It is obvious we did not have Miami talent on the roster. Let's give the man his 4 years with Miami talent and see where we end up. My guess is that Mr. Golden will be here for a while. If he keeps going on this pace, he will win National Championships during his tenure here. There is just no denying it. When are cupboards are full of talent, we are just going to be better than everyone else. Why? Because S.Fla has the best players in the country. He sees it. He knows it. Why leave that? Renegotiate a contract and live your life. Not everyone is all about the money. There is a point where you make enough to live the life you want to live and provide for your family the way you deem fit.

also, i'm not sure increased revenue due to winning translates into more money for the head coach or assistant coaches. not sure it works that way. even when we were winning, attendance wasn't that much better.

Actually average UM attendance can fluctuate as much as 12k-15k a year depending on a number of issues, with the most influential being the product on the field. We're talking about $10M a year arguably.

Look at 2001 and 2008 as examples.

Texas would scare the **** out of me. They have the resources (money, recruiting base, great city) that would be hard to say no to. I would hope that Petersen, Patterson, or Briles would be ahead of Golden on their list. As far as Alabama, Golden just doesn't seem like a Bama type of guy. He would probably be a fish out of water in Tuscaloosa.

If Golden can win 10 games next year then all doubt has been removed, he's the guy, and we need to throw money at him accordingly. I know we can't outbid Texas, but he would be valuable enough to the University that we should be competitive (as Baylor has done with Briles).

I agree with this, he will have done this in the face of a **** storm from the NCAA and all of the negative recruiting. Pay that man his money.

i think he loves it here and he recognizes w/in a 50 mile radius of UM lies the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country. but, there is a big difference between 1.5 mil a year vs 3 or 4 mil a year and most would jump at that.
he's not going yet, but, i don't think he's gonna be here 10 years.
UM paid Coker more than the number you referenced 8 years ago. UM will certainly pay Al a very competitive salary when the time come to give him another raise.

I don't see Al leaving anywhere in the short term. What makes these guys successful is that they are Alphas and believe in their process/system. I believe that he would see leaving this program before it has reached what his vision of what it can be would be a failure. He talks about Miami fans having an inferiority complex. This would imply that he sees this as an elite job. I believe that he does not consider any other college job to be a better gig than Miami. For some guys, leaving for another millions when you are already making $2.5-3 is not worth it. If you're just chasing dollars, sure. But he does not seem to be of that ilk.
Remember, he was also a player and faced Miami when it was very talented, hungry and virtually dominant. He realizes the best skill position players, with the exception of QB's, can be found in South Florida. He probably has enough belief in his recruiting skills that he knows he can go elsewhere to get OL and QB's.
Worrying about Golden leaving is like breaking up with your Brazilian model girlfriend who is a 9 just because you figure she is going to leave you some day. I would rather bang the **** out of her while we are together as opposed to worry about the day we breakup.
