look I get it. We play alot of freshmen.

The defense is not expected to be elite, and its not elite.

But how in God's name is it ok for us to be ranked 118th!!!!!!! Are we really the 3rd worst defense in America talent wise? Be serious. We're not.

Yes we're young, yes they make mistakes, but how is it THIS BAD???? How is this acceptable, par for the course, part of the plan or a knee-jerk reaction. Please, 'splain.

Hey, we were flying around out there.

We have some guys out with a lower extremity.

It's a process.

I am not a supporter but I am not going to bash 24/7 either. It is a ****** situation, almost a perfect storm for the 118th performance.

- Young team

- Poor coaching (position and DC)

- No DL pressure

- No veterans/upperclassmen of quality use

I don't know if that equates to 118th out of 120 but the 4 things above don't equate to success. Honestly, ignoring who the DC is, before the season I believed we were going to do poorly (not just because of the youth) but because of the bodies on the DL. There is **** on top of **** there.

Darrius Smith is terrible

Shayon Green is not good and it doesn't help that our starting DE had 3 major operations

Other DT (Pierre, King, Robinson some other freshman/sophomore) we cannot name.

Chick (true sophomore, not bad but gets no help from anyone else)

Combine that with other DEs who are freshman or an undersized Kelvin Cain, this is not what we need out there.

I also think Jethro Franklin is a terrible coach at a crucial position.

I guarantee if two fixes happened, we would instantly improve next year

1. Healthy in shape Porter, no joke we need him.

2. Palermo was the DL coach (upper quality DL coach a la Kevin Patrick)

Shammin made a huge mistake running Palermo off.

Golden made a huge mistake running Petri off.

I don't think you can really defend a 118th ranked unit. BUT...how many teams have played 2 top 10 teams and all but 2 games on the road with mostly young or inexperienced players? I don't know if D'onfrio is a crap coach....but its not like he was terrible last year. We ranked 45th last year with an absolutely horrid secondary. Maybe his defensive style does not cater well to inexperience....i don't know. but losing Regis, M.Robinson, Forston, Vernon, Ojomo has hurt a ton.

IMO we should'nt call for his head until we see what he does with players that develop in his system. Next year is a good time to pass judgement.

let me PM you something...I dont wanna post stuff about other boards **** all that *** etiquette stuff but im tryna step on toes, but I want you to read this write up.

basically, until 2011 we were among the top 40. Last year was the worst defense statistically since 1999. Seriously. In efficiency, the site the info was garnered from only started keeping it in 2007. Worst since then. Now this season its an abortion.

Here's some food for thought...Last year Bama gave up under 3000 yards (either 24 or 2800). In 6 games we've given up 3000 +. I'm not saying we're alabama good. But we can't possibly be this bad. Something is very wrong with this situation. Combination of play calling, overall scheme and coaching that scheme. This is not the 118th most talented D in america. Honestly, if we were just in the top 75 that would be cool. Its just so bad right now..

just watched the game again and everything is bad. d line gets walled off, linebackers get swallowed at the second level and (other than Deon Bush) safeties are slow and take bad angles. the corners play 10 yards off but get torched on practically every seam route thrown against them.

I know the d line gets a lot of the blame, but watch the ND highlights and count the number of times you see a big gain result from a poor angle by Paul, Johnson, Telemaque, Highsmith and Rodgers. That has nothing to do with scheme, that's just an issue of athleticism and instinct.

Listen I am not a fan of giving up yards but it should be the points that is driving you insane. No amount of yards equal points, yards COULD lead to points but it is not guaranteed. Yards may increase TOP but more TOP doesn't guarantee points either.

I think it's time people got over it and just accept this year will be decided by the offense's ability to stay in games.

Can some please explain this DL scheme? Why are they supposed to engage the OL? How are they ever going to pressure the QB by doing this? Is there a benefit of this?

I understand what you're saying bro, but think about this. We play a bend but don't break style of defense and we're 118th in the country. It's bending and breaking right now. Be more aggressive. Change the way you cover the pass. Change the way you blitz because the blitzes aren't working. Change the scheme.

Giving up yards leads to points and its retarded I have to say that.

read it earlier and I get it. BUT..all of those teams since 2007 had alot more talent/experience than this 2012 team. Vegas Franklin, Eric Moncur, Teraz McCray....all better players than Green, Pierre, Smith, etc.

This is the worst defensive personnel we have ever had outside of the LBs.

People need to sit back and give Coach D the benefit of the doubt until he gets his players in. He will turn this defense around given time. Last year I thought he did a nice job with the hand he was dealt considering the injuries and suspensions. This year his talent is simply awful and he is simply in a no win spot.

Golden knows football and respects the heck out of Coach D as a friend and football coach. As bad as this defense is, I think this guy can coach.

**** **** naw they weren't. franklin was 245 lbs. Moncur and Mccray were JAGS. Yes they were older, but this Dline is significantly bigger and stronger based on numbers posted this spring and going into the season. It's not about the Dline to me. Its about asking them to play a different technique then they're used to. We're asking them to occupy blocks instead of get penetration because our Corch is worried about cutbacks.

Well, they cutback, run over around and thru us anyway. So lets try and make it 2nd and 12 instead of 2nd and 7. Maybe we miss on the penetration maybe we hit. But its better than sitting back and being face raped for 40 minutes.
