Some thoughts on the Duke game after rewatch

Every single person in the stadium knew that pass was going at Kiko for 40 yards. EVERY SINGLE PERSON.

Stevie Wonder heard gasps and was able to immediately know Godry had Kiko exposed by Manny Diaz. Said: "I knew it #1, #7 or #25, but the exasperation made it clear it was again #1 pre-snap"

Coaches needed to call a TO when that alignment occurred

I like many of you believe Kiko could be better but him shouldering the blame for being in single coverage on a RB split wide is crazy. He is a MLB… a true one. And to expect him to consistently (because it’s happened several games) to cover a guy all the way down field with no help makes no sense and is a glaring scheme issue that Guidry needs to address. Kudos to Louisville and Duke for trying to exploit the match up.

I don’t care what team it is… anyone’s RB should be able to beat a MLB on any deep route and if he can’t he’s more than likely trash.

I truly don’t understand why Markeith doesn’t get a look at Safety.

The only possible answer is he's less reliable than the current starters, with less upside than ZP. ... If our principle problem is field intelligence, especially related to adjustment to motion, maybe Williams just doesn't have the ability to diagnose the play and marshal the secondary. Possibly he'd be part of the problem, not the solution.

He isn’t just being blamed for that. Ppl have called Guidry out but Kiko is always struggling tackling in space

lol there is no **** way he can play worse than 7 is right now. Mario has a hard on for Big Players at every position and he’ll use the “ Markeith is too skinny” to play Safety excuse. I wanna see with my eyes Markeith is worse than 7 on Gameday and then I’ll shut up.

To me I think this happens or has happened quite a lot and we / other teams have an “eraser” who just cleans up busts. I know Guidry isn’t this bad of a coach. I will say the didn’t do the best job of prioritizing cbs and @DMoney spoke to nickel. With all that, I think we can go toe to toe with anyone this year. Conversely any can take us toe to toe as well.
We’ve shown the ability to out score anybody if necessary. I still think it’s interesting how the defense seems to make adjustments at the half and play better.

I'd be concerned with ZP and Jaden Harris as our starting safeties. We need to get somebody else at nickel and put ZP in with Meesh at safety. Get Jaden off the field and get somebody at nickel that is smart with help over the top (even if they're not that athletic).

Leave DP and OJ in man coverage on the outside with occasional safety help. But safeties need to be focused on helping the LBs (Kiko) and nickel in intermediate (7-15 yards) coverage.

We're not getting beat over the top much. It's the short plays that turn into long plays that are killing us.
agree with this id try more Cam Pruitt at Star give us a better tackler it would move Porter back outside an OJ at other corner. Meesh an ZP at Safety.

Isn't there something to be said for scheming to players' strengths? Porter was very effective last season. Put him back outside. He and OJ should be above average on the outside. #19 was a HS corner who's learning a new position. Limited and inexperienced - bad combination. And it shows. Patterson is a significant upgrade from a talent/athleticism standpoint. Put Meesh at nickel primarily, while we wait for Brown, while mixing in some reps at S. Solid on the outside, experienced inside, and get a high-ceiling type in at S. Meantime, blend #19, Markieth, and even #22 at safety. More zone should protect Kiko who isn't as awful as many say. He's actually covered decently at times and been beaten equally by schematics and execution. Maybe a healthy Po-Po helps situationally, or even #22 in coverage.

And speaking of playing to personnel's strength, play Mesidor more at DE. Hopefully keeping Baron fresher ups his production. Not exactly the Jalen Phillips clone he appeared to be at the beginning of the season.

Why does Guidry’s first half gameplan consistently blow??? He’s obviously smart by way of his second half adjustments.

I just don’t get how his defense very consistently gets exposed and outschemed to start a game
Maybe it takes him a whole half to sober up…

1 play in particular I noticed on defense watching live was a 3rd down and 8ish with #2 in man coverage, his man was pre snap motion , #2 lollygagged following the motion, ball is snapped and QB immediately goes to his man and picks up an easy 1st down... only 1 play but I remembered it ****ed me off because it was obvious where the ball was going
Saw it too and had the same reaction.

Announcers talk about Ron English going simple for the Louisville defense and it helped them last night. That’s why I wish Guidry would do for Miami defense. I would love if we just went to a simple zone until Damauri comes back. Whatever we doing on defense isn’t working so least try to change it up. Can’t hurt

I think Guidry needs to explore the quarters zone defense with blitzing more than 4 (min 5, sometimes 6) defense that the NFL has ramped up this season. Mixing that type of defense would force more mistakes.

Also, @DMoney i noticed on the Booker sack, Cole was the opposite DE. Has Lightfoot been left in the dust here?

Lightfoot is LIGHT!!! He hasn’t really played all year.

He is a RS player 100%. Let’s see what he provides next year after a year eating and lifting weights

Can we maybe try someone other than Chris Johnson at kickoff return? Teams are purposely kicking to him knowing he won't get out to the 25
