Some Thoughts On Recruiting

Right now we are looking at a class of 1-2 LBs and zero DEs...that sound right to anyone?

Yea that sounds right. We have 4 freshman DE, might have a redshirt or two and no seniors are leaving at the position. We're losing a starting LB in Buchanan and only have 2 freshman LB at a bigger position.

We may have a very good DE group next year. If Hamilton and McCord play to their potential they will be very solid second stringers at the very least and may even steal a spot from green for first string.

Davis and SH news. I mean you have to think this class will end up being real close to 20

D$ and I were talking about this the other day and he made a good point that this class is pretty much done for the most part. The "meat and bones" are in the bag.

The 2 main things that need to be done is holding onto the Collins commitment and continuing to make a move for Matthew Thomas. FSU is obviously the main competition for both and it wont be easy for the staff to get them here. They can do it no question, though.

As far as the other uncommitted kids, the staff feels confident with Bain and Bostwick. Grace will be a Cane, we will just have to wait until late in the process to see it come to fruition.

Kids like Stacy Coley and Tim Williams would be cherries on top and could transform the class from good to great.

I'm expecting some JuCo names to emerge as the season gets underway because it will be such a young team next year as well and the staff would like to get some experience in there (look at the impact Ladarius Gunter has made in Camp).

No Jordan Cunningham?

Another question. If UM were to receive their sanctions prior to NSD, how would that effect this year's class? In other words, if the NCAA says we lose 3 schollies per year, would that kick in immediately? Would UM have to tell kids that were already committed that they can no longer accept their committment?

Exactly. We dont need DEs. We recruited SIX DEs the past two years. Plus none are SRs so everyone can return in 2013. This idea that DE is some sort of huge gaping hole is ludicrous - i am sure the coaches would like at least one kid in case Cain/Greene dont come back next year but the way they are recruiting DE this year tells me that they have little interest in stockpiling DEs at least as of right now.

We have the numbers per se, but we still need that true stud pass rusher. Right now we have a stud in 3G, but he isn't that prototypical pass rushing DE. Mccord and Holiett are specialists but not prototypes. Now either one of them might get there but both have a ways to go. Hamilton is a stud, but once again more of run stopper like 3G. O'donnell might be that guy but at this point he can't be labeled anything more than a project. The only thing we are missing is that one guy, and IMHO we really need him, who ever that is.

I would not sign another WR w/ ALJ coming on board.

I would devote all remaining ships to 2 LB's and the rest OL and DL.

We will have spots open up before the end of the year.

Seatrel Henderson will not be back next year one way or another. You will see a few kids like Grimble and Alexis move on.

Biggest whole right now in this class is LB. Golden is talking about how thin we are at LB, so I'd be shocked if we didn't sign at least two. Thomas and Grace maybe, and then at least one more o-lineman.

Yea 2 should be the number with or without Thomas

If Thomas doesn't come who else are we looking at at LB other than Grace?? This is the reason I'm surprised if we haven't offered Grace at this point. Thomas isn't a certainty, and you need two in the class. Why are they waiting to offer Grace? Or am I wrong and they have?

Grace has an offer and they will take him, but the staff is not "crazy" about him. They know he's the best option they have right now and will not turn him back. I love his game btw

Yeah, 2 is the ideal number at LB. We lose Buchanon and Gaines may be asked to graduate after this season if he gets pushed farther and farther down the depth chart.

What do you think about OL? Everyone keeps mentioning Kirkland as the only other OL kid in this class but i think we need to be in "scour the Earth" mode to find kids to fill out a 4 man OL class.

Gaines isn't going anywhere. I would be surprised if he isn't starting this year. I think the staff knows what they will get from him and just want to develop the other guys. I think he will start along with Cookie and Perryman.

What are you talking about? Everything about this post is wrong. Gaines being asked to graduate when he is one of the leaders of the D?? Probably will be starting eventually this year. 4 man OL class? LOL

I see you are new here. lol. You won't be laughing when we are throwing walkons, Hunter Wells and Junior Alexis in the 2 deep to go against Eddie Goldman in a couple years. :ibisroflmao:

Gaines a "leader" of the D???? :ibisroflmao: Kid wouldnt even see the field if not for Shammy's horrid recruiting efforts. Kid's a JUNIOR and he cant beat out FIRST and SECOND year players here.
