Another theory I threw out the other day: Maybe Mario doesn't think there's that much of a drop-off between his top-ranked DC candidates and his plan B candidates (the 1st/2nd guy on his DC list versus the 3rd/4th/5th guy). So it's possible Mario wants to see how much it's gonna cost him to secure an OC before moving on a DC.

So Mario’s plan was to get turned down by his top candidate, have another candidate he spoke with leak out that he turned us down and use that as leverage for a new deal, and enter a massive recruiting weekend with no OC? If that was the plan, then sure it’s going perfectly.
