I think Seider has a kid on the team at Penn St. Doubt he'd leave, at least for a lateral move, while that remains true
Does he? I haven’t kept up. Nonetheless, the point remains, Franklin getting a lot of side eyes in State College.

Last 2 seasons: 4-5 and 7-6. He’s got a lot at stake in 2022.

Lol so because he doesn’t mention his name that proves he knew he wasn’t coming? This guy is so lame. Can’t just say he got scooped.

I guarantee you he wouldn’t have said anything had Mastro taken the job.

Billy Madison: "No, you don't"

He just signed a 10 year extension. He isn't going anywhere for a while
Yeah his buyout terms are pretty mind-boggling. $7M/year through 2031.

If the last year has taught us anything it’s that major P5 institutions are willing to spend money to get the coaches they want. If he screws the pooch a couple more years they’ll pay those few millions of dollars. Easily.

You think those nuts are going to do nothing if he rips off a couple of 7 win seasons?
No. As you stated they just went 4-5 and 7-6. You know how much uproar there was from the media or fans up here? None. They think he's amazing, and every single off season when five schools come contacting him for openings he verifies that to them and they verify it with a raise. They just signed him to that deal because they think he IS the coach they want. Do I agree with their thinking? Of course not. He's average and I hate him. But he isn't getting the boot from Crappy Valley

The only way to test whether I’m wrong or you’re wrong is if he continues with these substandard performances for another year, the seat will massively heat up, then assuming he has another bad year, which I personally think is going to happen, then we’ll see if you’re right or I’m right.

Boosters carry sway there, like at any major P5. And like even at Miami, they have a tolerance limit.

In other words, he has one more year to prove himself. If he has a 7 win season, he'll get canned on Jan 1, 2023. $6m buyout these days is peanuts for schools.
No, that's if Franklin leaves for another school, he would owe PSU $6M. If State Penn fires him they owe him the number of years left on his contract x $7M. So, $63M, not $6M.

Could PSU try to negotiate a reduced settlement, of course. And if Franklin gets hired elsewhere I don't know if thst salary offsets the buyout amount. It likely does I just haven't dug that deep.

But the buyout terms of the extension raised a lot of eyebrows wrt if State Penn fires Franklin early in the deal.

I've lived here for 37 out of my 42 years unfortunately. I actually know boosters. Those boosters are pretty happy that he just signed the #1 rated QB in the '22 class and #6 overall class. He didn't acquire that without help from those boosters money. What you're saying is obviously true typically, but those cultists are not typical.
