At first, I thought people were trolling with all the "no state income tax" thing as a legitimate deciding factor for coaches. Then I realized people were serious.

Asked why he chose to coach at Miami over Georgia, Coach XYZ responded "Both programs have historic traditions but Florida's tax regulations really sealed the deal for me."

I would straight up die.

And there are other "little details". When I lived in Coral Gables (moved out 1/2014), our WINDSTORM / home owners insurance was almost $10,000 a year. Crazy expensive due to the coastal hurricane risk in South Florida. And that wasn't for a $1.5 mm home. My windstorm / home owners insurance dropped to $950 a year in Central Florida .. much bigger home and 1.5 acre lot. PROPERTY TAXES .. the people that bought our home in The Gables are paying close to $20,000 a year in property taxes (a big chunk of that is Gables School fees .. not paid by City of Miami residents). So ... for a home similar to what you get for $375,000 in Athens, Ga., you can be looking at close to $30,000 a year in windstorm insurance and property taxes .. THEN add a mortgage on top. Coral Gables is one of the more expensive residential locations in the country.

This home buying talk is nonsense. These guys wherever they go most likely aren’t staying there forever and it’s a short term investment even if it’s a long term stay I.E 5 years. Eventually coaches move on. I would say a guy like Mario has the best chance of retiring where he is currently employed. Even McClendon probably won’t retire in Athena and live his days out there. These are short term purchases and are investments. The only thing that matters is the monthly mortgage payment here.

There is no excuse for losing both TRob and BMac, especially when you brought the latter over from the previous regime. None. Not money, not title, nothing. It would be an atrocious look to lose two elite coaches/recruiters and have only hired one other coach outside of the Oregon retentions in that timeframe. So let’s see if Miami pulls out the big boy wallet (if the BMac rumors end up getting serious).

This. The whole state income tax stuff is weird to me. When you’re making 500k+, that’s just noise.

They get along very well. Mario wanted him to stay when he left to go back to Louisville and Diaz hired him. The only reason he left was to be closer so his parents could see games and his daughter lives in S FL.

**** guys, if anyone in the country should know about the fire you play with when you take the up and comer and not the established dude, it should be us. We’ve done it for 20 years and it’s been one spectacular failure after another. Sure, there are plenty of examples of unknown guys being successful. But there are WAY MORE of an unqualified guy getting a job, immediately stepping on his **** and the whole world saying, “Yeah, that probably wasn’t a good idea”.

My whole point is we don’t need to go this route. We should have everything in place to hire someone proven, established, and successful. Why leave this to chance? We know Mario isn’t the world’s best football coach. He needs help on that side of things. You think the best option for us to provide that help comes from 32 year old Spencer Whipple? Come on. Think bigger.

Amigo. You just named three conventional hires that are the exact opposite of what LSU did with Brady, Oklahoma did with Riley, Oregon did with Kelly, Alabama did with Golding, or what it would be if Miami did it with Whipple.

We get your point. You think we should limit ourselves to googling who are the OC's at the top 20 offenses in CFB and pick one. Our point is that Hellen Keller could make that hire, and that they don't always work out. For the sake of this discussion I even showed you how Briles market value isn't what you think. Which is why we illustrated how some of the very best offensive hires were made by identifying, and beating the competition to young innovative guys who are the new wave, and are coming to blow the retreads out of the water. Think about the upside. Think about finding an edge OVER the guys who you're naming.

Just because you have budget doesn't mean the best move is to spend it all. If some long beard who has been moving up the ranks won't move his family or leave his alma mater for less than $2M, it doesn't make him a better hire than the $900k it would take to pull an innovative young guy who you think gives you an edge.

I'm not trying to beat you in an argument. I think you're one of the very best posters on here. Which is why I am trying to get you to expand your mind and think like a CEO who's tasked to find an advantange.
