Some names to watch before it’s deleted

It is too **** early in Mario's tenure for division (mopes vs. slurpers).

Why can't we have a civil discussion on why it is taking so long without being labeled one or the other. I don't believe anybody is off the Luigi bandwagon so let's put that to rest.

Posters should be able to raise legitimate questions and concerns about the hiring process without being labeled a mope or others arguing that the sky isn't falling down.

My post didn't go through last night for some reason, but Cribby's updated original post on December 28th, mentions Mason; in fact, I remember somewhere in the 300's or 400's a pretty detailed conversation regarding Mason's strong resume, then there was some stupid comment about him having a girl kicker, typical CIS spew... but regardless, Cribby is the best insider we have. So I assume/believe it's not just made up smoke as Hoya wants to call it.
No offense to Cribby or anyone else with good info, but just because a conversation was had, doesn't mean an offer was made.

I mean there's been numerous people close to the program that have mentioned T-Rob's scummy antics, along with Briles'/Sexton's infatuation with leaking info to get a raise. If you don't want to believe them that's fine - but there's information out there that coincides with these statements.
It’s business.

People here act like Mario or others didn’t use their agents or leverage throughout the process or that when we poach coaches in the next week it isn’t doing the same thing Bama/TRob just did…. but it seems easier to always blame the other person instead of just saying - well that sucks, took an L there losing a top dog, but onto the next **** it, let’s go, no slowing down!

So no Briles and no Candle. Who's up next?

Another one from Mount Union.

Guys, if we don't hire an OC and DC before February, we literally won't have a football program come 2023!!! :6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::6fps6::6fps6:

(Am I freaking out right?)

I have faith in Mario and the direction of the athletic department as a whole for the first time in forever. But this board operates at a much better level when we can have legit discussion/voice concerns. We are bringing up why the no coordinators is starting to get worrisome as we approach February and 95% of staffs around the country are filled. Instead of having discussion as to why it’s not we’re met with the cis brigade telling us we’re out of our mind for thinking so and this timeline is completely normal. Even when some of the most respected posters voice their concerns it gets looked over.
You didn't really think it was going to go any other way did you? The Miami Honor Guard just spent the entire last off season doing this for Manny.

Thorough interviews. Can’t hire someone that doesn’t know X&O. Are we sure Derek Mason knows his X&O’s?

Gotta sit him down in the film room for 3 hours to find out.
I’d go with a minimum of 4. I mean between bio breaks, introductions, etc… you’re already down an hour and that’s simply not enough to judge a Derek Mason…

Two days after Mario was hired FYI. And Gundy had exactly ONE opening to fill. Guy is clearly in over his head
Who’s in over his head? Mario? LMAO! The guy that has been the HC at a P5 program for 4 years and a coach for over 20?

So, more are reporting Mario made Briles a significant offer. Are we to believe this was after Candle turned his down??

A lot of you are wayyy too enamored with whole “it’s a good thing he’s being so thorough, he always does this, stop whining”…no he doesn’t. And now even guys with more knowledge than 95% of this board combined like LCE and even JayCane are admitting this is getting a tad bit ridiculous…but keep on slurping away I guess; I’m just calling it like it is.

Really all you're doing is projecting your anxiety

What is wrong with the people on this board?

Taggart hired Leavitt. Mario retained Leavitt for his first year. Then, FOURTEEN MONTHS AFTER MARIO WAS HIRED, Mario fired Leavitt on February 13, 2019. Andy Avalos was hired February 27, 2019.

So Mario took TWO WEEKS to hire Leavitt's replacement. Pretty **** fast.

This "fact" stuff isn't that hard to research or prove.

Fired him in the middle of february, hired whatever was leftover and ended up the 71st ranked dense in 2021. Its a losing formula.

I actually don’t fault Mario for missing on Candle or Briles (if we was offered).

Candle is a HC.

When I first heard Briles’ name I thought he’d definitely come but then the more I read up the more unlikely I thought it was. He had a good offense last year, lots of his starters are coming back, he’s been moving around A LOT and that’s tough on a family, Arky can get in the ballpark of what we offered, and he probably thinks one more good year will net him a promotion.

I do fault Mario for the time mismanagement though. The fact that Mario offered two unlikely candidates six weeks into a coaching search… and spent six weeks interviewing/getting/discussing/negotiating/etc. is annoying. I think you have to swing for the fences, but I would have expected him to do that 2-3 weeks into his tenure. Not waste a significant amount of time on guys who weren’t likely to come in the first place.
I agree with a lot of this. Getting turned down isn't an indicator of the HC. But waiting "too long" to get turned down is more problematic.

I'd love to know the ins and outs of how the timing played a role (college hiring/firing, ESD, NFL hiring/firing, post-ESD recruitment, potential portal issues, etc....) and I'd love to know the conversations and the strategy (and prioritization of time) behind the scenes. From an outsider's perspective, it seems Mario made the strategic choice to bring in a group of guys he trusts and prioritize salvaging 2022 recruiting and getting a jump on 2023.

But on the surface, this process is clearly taking longer than most people anticipated and some names have come off the board. On the other hand, while I always want the best decision executed expediently, if forced to be between making the wrong hire fast and making the right hire slow, I typically pick the latter.

Time will tell.
