I would have to be a fool to give a timeline. Ive made guesses by what's going on with recruiting certain weekends , so hirings by then would make sense , and here we sit lol. I also thought the staff was complete minus 1-2 coaches weeks ago, albeit an educated guess , still wrong. No source just I was just looking at all the smoke ( which was bs). But to my defense I was the guy posting the last couple weeks that if anyone said they knew the coordinators they were lying. Because I knew they weren’t hired yet. That was reliable info. Which is backed up by multiple people who’d know.

That explains why nobody could get any info on coordinators , i’ve been ahead on all the other hires.

It wasn’t Fort Knox , there just wasn’t anyone hired yet. Credit to Ferman , he has a suspect percentage but he said that.
Bonus points for humility.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention the "sample size bros".

Stop bullsh!tting. Nobody said "equally good OC candidates". Nor did anyone say "a few great games".

It is about whether IF YOU DECIDE TO ELEVATE A COACH and give him responsibilities beyond his prior job title, is there supporting evidence to do so.

But if "sample size bros" had their way, a guy would never become a coordinator unless his first OC/DC job was at Montana State or some other backwater.
LMAO so many ****** arguments y'all make to avoid the obvious.

Kendall Briles is not coaching at Montana State, he's coached at Houston, FSU, and Arkansas. That's just one example of many...

I also have zero problem promoting a position coach, as I've said like a million times (to no avail I guess). But I simply prefer someone who's proven themselves over someone who's a complete unknown. Risk mitigation.

Dorsey/Whipple would be good hires. But you know who'd be a better hire? Briles. And you know who'd be even a better hire? Whoever the top OC is in college right now. Cause that's what he hope Dorsey and Whipple will turn out to be.

Added Bonus. Spencer could double as our Special Teams coach too.

'He helped lead the Hurricanes to a perfect 39-for-39 on PAT attempts, as well as 11-for-14 on field goals.'

Lmao @ Gabriela having any sources with Bama.

Who told him who Saban wants as his DB coach? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Saint Nick lol
What’s DVD up to??

The reason you don't understand why people prefer a proven coordinator over an unproven coordinator is because you're simply not accounting for the denominator effect. Of course, once upon a time, a really good head coach had never been a head coach before and a really good coordinator had never been a coordinator before. But then you have the denominator: once upon a time, a really ******/average head coach had never been a head coach before and a really ******/average coordinator had never been a coordinator before.

Say you're the head coach of Texas in 2017 and you have to decide between these two candidates: Nick Saban and Tom Herman (a fast riser, described as brilliant and intelligent, extremely successful, and the hottest realistic coach on the market). Who would you pick and why?

Say you're the head coach of Miami in 2021 and you have to decide between these two candidates: Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier. Who would you pick any why?

My pick is Mario. He's proven himself on the P5 level. He's shown that he can build a program up and win conference championships.

Is Billy viewed by many in the industry as a rising star? Yeah, but so was Herman, so was Frost, so were many other young head coaches and coordinators who eventually failed. But Mario hasn't failed, he's already shown you that he can do it. So why roll the dice?

All of this is to say:
(1) I'd be totally fine promoting a well-thought of position coach to coordinator, BUT
(2) it's indisputable that a coach who has already proven himself is much more likely to succeed than a complete unknown. That's why you'd chose Saban over Herman or Cristobal over Napier. Because it's way less of a risk.

Oh, snap! The "denominator effect"! And "sample size"! Fellas (and ladies), we're gonna have to bust out our MBAs to counter these arguments...

Now, setting aside the confusing bit about being the head coach of Texas in 2017 and presumably hiring my own replacement, I think we can dispense of "the denominator effect" being the determinant between Nick Motherfvckin Gawd Saban and Tom Herman. Nobody has yet suggested to hire a coordinator based solely on "fast riser" (and I'm also not sure why we keep mixing the HC apples with the OC oranges). We are suggesting the POSSIBLE pairing of an experienced HC, who has served as a Co-OC himself, with an up-and-coming OC. Which is NOT an uncommon pairing.

Again, assuming that either Dorsey or Whipple would meet ALL THE OTHER criteria for Mario, including fit, personality, teaching-style, etc. But you turn every conversation into a binary single-factor analysis (which OC has more experience, A or B, pick the larger number).

Dorsey and Whipple are stars. Slated for OC jobs in the near future. But somehow it would be OK for NFL teams to give those guys their first OC jobs, but not precious Miami, EVEN THOUGH OUR HEAD COACH IS A FORMER OC HIMSELF.

Makes no sense at all. Just mental slavery to the "Mario has to make some grand-slam hires or I'm gonna go back to moping" crowd.

Dorsey or Whipple would be stand-up triples, at least.

Charlie Weis was hired in December of 2004, before the Patriots started their postseason. It wasnt a distraction to him or anyone else when he and a flu riddled Brady put up 34 offensive points against the Steelers at Heinz Field.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned it’s that Charlie Weis didn’t put up jack. The flu riddled Brady put up those 34 points.

I'll always remember the 09 game @ FSU. Where the WhipLash offense was unleashed! I was so excited, Jacory looked like a Heisman candidate, and we looked like we were about to burst onto the scene.

****...

We can argue if he would be a HUGE step down but at least Google for five seconds before talking out your *** on ‘definitives’ please. I don’t need any ‘insider’ sources to know you are just clueless lol

“Spencer Whipple is an *excellent playcaller* and has called plays before”
Do. *******. Research. People.
Had me at “Spencer Whipple Cane alum”

Spencer Whipple would be a homerun...

The Cardinals offense at Miami is A+...

If we’re going to take a NFL guy, it needs to be a young innovative guy, not an old fuddy duddy set in his ways.

Dorsey, Brady, Spencer, Kafka, Bleymaier etc are the kinds of NFL guys you want.
Major endorsement alert for the Whipple whiners...

I feel that the pro WWE ECW was not not culturally inclusive. I am offended that this entire post was not flagged considering that boobies and cake need a parental explicit sticker.

As a brown American how can we not have any Lucha Libre gifs in here.
Best wrestler ever was Mil Mascaras!!!!

I’m freaking leaving sofla and moving to Portland where everyone is accepted!!! Even lucha libre!!!!!!

So you think we should, or even could, hire "whoever the top OC is in college right now"? Sure. Because you can do that on PlayStation.

Look, I've already gone on the record as saying I would be fine with Briles. And having no idea whether Mario has offered him, or would ever offer him, I also know that employment contracts are bilateral, and Briles might not want to come to Miami. Therefore, outside of "whoever the top OC is in college right now", we have to be practical and try to hire the best-fitting candidate with mutual interest. And there are reasons why Dorsey and Whipple could have mutual interest that, say, another coach at another school might NOT have.

You continue to ignore the reality that Mario has worked as an OC before. Nobody is suggesting that we hire three virgins as HC, OC, and DC. We are also not going to be filling the trophy case with "made a better hire" awards.

People like to complain about the hiring delays, but nobody yet has provided the realistic "whoever the top OC is in college right now" name who would entertain a Miami interview, let alone accept a Miami offer. And that is not "woe-is-me-Miami-sucks" thinking, that is just realistic "not-every-coach-wants-every-job" thinking.

I'm tired of this fake bullcrap. Nobody is saying "don't hire Briles". Except, maybe, Mario. And if Mario is OK with hiring Dorsey or Whipple, I'm OK with it. Because we need MARIO to be comfortable with his own hire, not "a majority of CIS geniuses".

Because, to be honest, and with an HONEST "with all due respect", YOUR "preference" really doesn't matter. Mario's does.

It's hilarious. You quote a post where I say the exact opposite lmfao. I would like the Whipple and Dorsey hire. I said that in the post you quoted and 5 million other times. I just prefer someone who's already proven they're very successful because ultimately we want Whipple and Dorsey to be very successful...

I'll try one more time and try not to use math terms (I guess they make u feel small, idk). Lets say we add up every instance where:
(A) a coordinator who's coached multiple 25 offenses accepted a job at a new school, and
(B) a position coach who's never been a coordinator accepted a job at a new school.

And then we looked at which pool of coordinators were more successful, on average (don't freak out, I know I said average), those in A and or those in B. Which pool of candidates do you think performed better, on average?

The answer is obvious. The logic is obvious.

Who would you all prefer to hire between the below matchups?

Spencer Whipple or Warren Ruggiero
Sean Lewis or Kendal Briles
Ken Dorsey or Joe Brady

If posters here knew how little play calling experienced mattered when hiring. The nfl is a small circle , everyone knows who the smart kids are, the “special ones”. That’s why they shoot up the ranks so fast. Players, scouts , coaches and upper management talk. There’s a reason there’s so many qb gurus in HC spots over the years with no play calling experience. Somebody that’s considered a brilliant mind In nfl circles can call plays and well. Because they’re brilliant. Fans think more about this than actual teams lol.
I hope you’re right. The nepotism that ran through the Vikings org makes me hope this is more of a Shanahan than a Kubiak.

Whipple earned his way up the ranks. Kubiak had a HC daddy leading his trajectory. You see what happened once Whipple got to Arizona? How many Ast Wr coaches are handed the play sheet to ball games when the HC is out? He’s a dude is why. That’s just my opinion.
