What I don't understand is why we need to the NFL season to end to announce anything unless our top candidates aren't committed to us and first want to go through NFL interviews.

LSU, for example, hired and announced the Chief's linebackers coach to be there new DC over 3 weeks ago and he's not commencing his duties until the Chiefs' season is over. https://lsusports.net/news/2021/12/28/matt-house-named-lsu-football-defensive-coordinator/

EDIT: My hunch is we still haven't come to an agreement with any OC/DC, and that's why we haven't announced anything. Not because the NFL season is still ongoing for some teams.

Exactly. It’s like Mario hasn’t even started interviewing. This legit is going to into late February/early March it seems

So, this week?
I would have to be a fool to give a timeline. Ive made guesses by what's going on with recruiting certain weekends , so hirings by then would make sense , and here we sit lol. I also thought the staff was complete minus 1-2 coaches weeks ago, albeit an educated guess , still wrong. No source just I was just looking at all the smoke ( which was bs). But to my defense I was the guy posting the last couple weeks that if anyone said they knew the coordinators they were lying. Because I knew they weren’t hired yet. That was reliable info. Which is backed up by multiple people who’d know.

That explains why nobody could get any info on coordinators , i’ve been ahead on all the other hires.

It wasn’t Fort Knox , there just wasn’t anyone hired yet. Credit to Ferman , he has a suspect percentage but he said that.

Its the “right thing to do” cuz Mario is a “stand up guy” and doesn’t want to “distract” the coaches still at other jobs.

I think that must be the case. We’re the fall-back option for all of these guys — Dorsey, Herman, Brady, Whipple.

Once all of these NFL teams finalize their staffs, we’ll be able to make our hire.

Would be an underwhelming hire for sure. Never called plays, an assistant WR coach? WTF??? HUGE step down from the starting point of "Brady, Briles, Dorsey".
We can argue if he would be a HUGE step down but at least Google for five seconds before talking out your *** on ‘definitives’ please. I don’t need any ‘insider’ sources to know you are just clueless lol

“Spencer Whipple is an *excellent playcaller* and has called plays before”
Do. *******. Research. People.

I think when some teams start dropping off it’ll speed up very fast. As I’ve said I’m sure this is like his recruiting board. He has his top names and a pecking order. Imo it can’t help but be a good hire with the names out there. College or Pro.

I respect you Leeds, but him calling plays for one college game and one pro game isn’t enough for me to entrust him with this offense. Just my two cents. I could rattle off 15 more qualified, relatively affordable/realistic options over him. And yes, no one has said he’s the other name - heck it could be Herman, or anyone else.

Do I think Whipple has a bright future? **** yeah, he’s learning under Kliff, who (in my book) is a genius play caller, as most would agree. But I want someone with more experience and familiarity around an offense. I’m not going to crown him over one pro game.

Many of the board's "resume analysis experts" have never actually interviewed/hired people as a part of their jobs. Or built staffs.

I have no idea about Rick'd in particular, but the "how to hire staff" treatises that I've read (did you KNOW there was a specific order in which you have to hire people in an Athletic Department?!?!?!?!) are just rid-god****-diculous.

I would point out something different though.

It is not the NUMBER of games of playcalling which should be the focus. It should be whether there was any sort of a drop-off or differential in the playcalling when Whipple (or someone like Whipple) steps in to do the job.

I'm just not a fan of "resume analysts" citing the job titles for a guy as a disqualifier.

Big picture. Jobs AND accomplishments. Let's look at the total job candidate, not the piece of paper that summarizes him.

Am I the only one that thinks we can do better than Whipple (if he’s the other name)?
Him and Dorsey are above this job. “If” we landed eorher it would be a huge pickup on Miami’s part. The only reason we would have a chance is obvious. Dorsey also having a very close relationship with Mario on top of being a Cane. Whipple has shot up the coaching ranks because he’s a brilliant dude. Anyone that knew the guy said he’d be a coach. He‘ll be an NFL oc very soon. I don’t get his logic coming here unless he wants to coach in college.

That’s a fair counter; and to be honest, the offense didn’t drop off at all.

He definitely fits the mold Cribby described as “not a **** name” (I think it was Cribby? Again it’s been so long since we began discussions that I have no idea who made what comments anymore). If he was the hidden name, I would be skeptical; but hey, I would be loved to be proved wrong and see this offense flourish. He’s a bright mind for sure.

My guess too. both seem to want to stay in the league and both will get the same job at a higher level soon

Appreciate it, gonna go watch the UMass game vs. USF when I get home to see how he called that college game with atrocious talent at his disposal (besides Isabella).

Whaaaat? You don't subscribe to the notion that fast-rising superstars should be excluded from our hiring pool because they have never had "headset hair" from calling plays all game long? And that we should ONLY hire the retread tires that have gone flat at one or more prior jobs because, you know, they don't stutter or stammer when they try to call plays?

Blasphemy. Oh well, burn me at the stake, I'm OK with either Kenny D Dorsey or Dole Whipple Jr.
