I interpret the bolded part as follows:
- Lanning stays on staff as co-DC thru the playoffs and then departs for Oregon
- Next year Muschamp joins the staff full-time as co-dc with Schumann.

Schumann does not become THE DC and it is unlikely he will call plays with Muschamp around.

Mario: Go get Schumann...now!!!
Pretty sure Kirby built this contingency plan when Lanning started getting real HC looks last offseason. Highly doubtful Muschamp ever gets another HC job. Eventually Schumann would get another job. So it makes sense to make Muschamp the top dog on defense.

From Kirby:
“We are so happy for Dan and his family. He and Sauphia have been an important part of our Bulldog family for the last four years, and we thank them for all they did for Georgia Football and the Athens community. Opportunities like this are a testament to a successful program. While he will coach with us for the upcoming College Football Playoff, we will move forward with Glenn Schumann and Will Muschamp as co-defensive coordinators. Dan and I are both looking forward to preparing for the CFP.”
Who's doing the recruiting at Oregon then?!

They're punting eNSD with this move.

So we don't have to wait till playoffs are over....if Lanning is gone and done.......why don't we finish and get Schuman asap and make the announcement
Leaving for a HC job is entirely different than leaving for a coordinator job.

Current Position: Oregon Associate Head Coach/Co-Defensive Coordinator/Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line

Salary: $650,000

11 zillion titles and $650k salary at Oregon. Been AHC+ wherever he's been for about a decade. Very compelling resume, and even better, no one knows him better than Mario. If Mario wants him, its a great hire.

Trent Alexander Arnold Waiting GIF by Liverpool FC

Still waiting for the OC. Like LCE said, most important hire.

This guy baffles me, he pretty much stunk last year, but yet he’s held in such high esteem. What am I missing?
Our S were young but good. You can’t get 4 years of bad coaching out of kids like Hall. The freshman improved and that is who he was In Charge of. DVD coached CB so not sure what you are talking about that he stunk last year.

Isnt the alternative for Schumann staying in UGA and being a co-coordinator again, this time with Muschamp? Wouldnt he want to be the sole man in charge running the D at Miami and getting presumably a giant pay raise? He only makes 600k according to the AJC.

If he’s just going to end up being the Co-DC with Muschamp calling the plays, then I’m sure he’ll still consider leaving. Not sure what Kirby’s plan is because if it’s obvious to us then I’m sure it’s also obvious to him.

Offer $800K/yr plus titles. No state income tax in Florida makes this around a $200K/yr raise.

Offer $1.25M/yr plus DC title and playcalling.

No state income tax in Florida makes this more than 2X annual increase, assuming current salary of $600K is correct.
