One more spot for an ILB coach?
Where's all the new Herman talk coming from? Is it just because Nagy is out?

I was told about 400 pages ago to stop dreaming because he's not leaving the NFL and lose his Texas buyout for a college OC job.

Because he had a cushy job with the Bears, but their staff just pretty much got ousted, so............

For head coach, yes.

Contract setoffs are monetary. A former HC who is being paid, say, 3 million per year can take an analyst job that pays 100K, and he still gets 2.9 million from the old job. But if you take a coordinator job that pays 1.6 million, your prior job payout drops to 1.4 million. And if you took a HC job that pays $5 million, you would lose the whole payout.

Here’s something I can’t figure: in the scenario above, all anyone in that situation is provided is the amount of the original contract, never more since that would be a windfall and exactly what contracts with this structure are trying to avoid. So what does it matter the source of the money for Herman (Texas or Miami) since he can never make more from Texas than his original contract? As with everything, I’m likely missing some key info. Lol

I would imagine that any Year 1 reduction due to getting a new job is permanent. That means, if you have 5 years of a buyout at 3 million per year, and then you take the OC job in Year 1 for 1.6 million, your buyout goes down to 1.4 million and stays there. So if you lose the OC job after Y1, you don't get your full 3 million buyout again in Year 2, since you were the one who lost the second job on your own, having nothing to do with the first employer. That's why guys keep a low profile until the end of the buyout, unless you get a great HC job somewhere else that exceeds the first job, on a guaranteed basis (Richt from UGa to UM).

May be wrong but not sure it works that way. I think the setoff is for on field only so it you take an analyst job you get the $3M plus the $100K. That would seem to be the only reason not to take an on field role since you are then getting more money rather than just what you are owed. Of course each contract could be different

Believe Herman has 2 more years on his Texas payout (half on firing balance over 3 years?). Big consideration for Herman .. is getting STALE by not being active in football. So better to be working than working as "an advisor" or TV analyst. That might put him in consideration. Would be nuts.

I have no idea how realistic he’d be, but he’d immediately shoot up to my #1 option. Pay that man to offset the Texas money + some, he’s worth it.

This would be the only reason. He takes an OC job, successful and is on to his next HC job. The only problem I see here is that I’m not sure we are high profile enough at this moment to lure a name like that.

I don't think he's staying for sure, a few schools are making a run and I'm assuming Mario doesn't want to announce him and then get burned.
I wouldn’t be shocked if it was pending the DC selection. Maybe if Schumann comes, TRob goes to UGA and Muschamp? Though with the NC game over, if it’s Schumann, we’d know today or tomorrow ID think.
