Question for the pro-Schumann crowd:

Full disclosure … I don’t really care if he’s the hire or not.

But I’d like to get the thoughts from the pro-Schumann crowd on why we’d want a guy UGA and Oregon are willing to pass on?

Not saying he won’t make a helluva DC.

But if the theory is, he comes to Miami because Kirby (his mentor) didn’t give him play-calling duties. It also means Lanning didn’t want him to call plays at Oregon, either.

Assuming the before mentioned is accurate, what makes him a slam dunk / home run for Mario?
Your entire critique is based off a huge assumption. You’re assuming they didn’t want him.

Lanning hired Lupoi who is more known for his recruiting than playcalling. There’s a chance Lanning calls the plays. And Schumann is now co-DC at UGA and Kirby hasn’t confirmed who will be calling plays.

Sooooooo…..yeah.

One thing this thread has taught me is that there are some really good OC’s out there. When a guy like Barry Lunney goes to Illinois, I’m sure Miami can get a guy that build a fun, high powered offense. It really shouldn’t be that hard..
Exactly, there’s literally 30 or 40 I could name that would kill it here & it wouldn’t cost $2mill a year to get’em either.

It all depends on which direction we’re trying to go in...

There’s both run heavy & pass heavy OC’s who would all slap somebody’s crusty old grandma to get a chance to coach our offensive personnel, there’s no reason to have too many restrictions & standards for who can OC for us.

I think Mario will make a good choice when it’s all said & done, at worse if he doesn’t, he can just fire whoever it is & start all over again next offseason lol.

I have no problem with a coordinator moving on to a head coaching job. Would mean Canes are doing good and make job more attractive for other good coordinators
I’m saying more from Smart’s perspective. Muschamp is probably never getting another HC job. He could stay for life at UGA and Smart will have this spot filled with a like minded guy forever.

Man I don’t really care much which of these versions we run. As long as it’s pass 1st, spreads the field and doesn’t force feed the running game. To me a 4 yard pass is just as good as a 4 yard run. As long as there is enough run formula to keep the defense honest, be effective when called upon and gives us some minimal success when we need to slow things down and burn clock. We can also let the rb eat more in the passing game if we aren’t giving them 30 handoffs.

I will say I don’t want something so complex that it takes 2 years to get a squad comfortable with. I selfishly want TVD to rip it right away.

Mario going to announce field or t-Rob tomorrow. Then the other on Tuesday. Coordinators won’t be announced till Wednesday and Thursday with the recurring dead period lifting then.

Still have a RB coach, ST and all the GA’s. 500 pages easy

I’m under the impression that Field is going off field.

Going to bed hoping this thread is

still up in the Morning.

Everybody is good at Bama & UGA, literally the easiest jobs in the world being a position coach at programs that spend millions upon millions of dollars a year on 5-star recruits.

Being a coach at Bama & UGA is like being an assistant coach for the Olympic Dream Team, you don’t have to actually do anything, just tell all the Uber talented players to be Uber talented lol.
Ask bama fans if they’ve seen a noticeable difference from pruitt to golding. He won a natty and was great at fsu. This wasn’t Kirby uga he was good at it, they were hardly the defensive juggernaut they are now. He’s a two time broyles finalist.

Anyone can be good at Georgia, yet 75% of the board is jerking off to the idea of Schumann and he hasn’t even called plays! And I’m not even saying they’re wrong to want him!

If you don’t think Pruitt is a good dc I don’t know what to tell you.

I wasn’t saying that he wasn’t a good DC, I was just pointing out that being good at programs that have 70 5-star athletes is a lot easier than most realize.

Your point is withstanding, I wasn’t disagreeing with you, just adding that being good at Bama isn’t necessarily an accurate barometer for a coach.

Fair enough

If it’s Tyson Helton, Todd Graham, Seth Littrell, Sean Lewis or even Brent Brennan I’m gonna go ape sh*t lol

Guaranteed we win the ACC with any of those guys as our OC this season.
With Flake and Lispy, we would’ve been lucky to choose from a list of Todd Helton, Billy Graham, Brian Littrell, Jerry Lewis and Margaret Brennan for OC
