I think blue chip recruits are 5 stars as they are the best.. the “blue chips” of their class if you will.

So he had a nice run of “4star kids”… and is currently at BC with his recruiting prowess netting him one 4star kid with a debatable commit able bama offer. His 2022 classes consisted of a whose who list of 3 stars.
By any statistical measure 4 star kids are blue chip. There are several thousand players recruited across all divisions of college football each year and only a couple hundred are 4 star or higher.

5 star.

Unless you want the 200 or so 4 star kids all considered “blue chips”

Ahhh, okay got it. First time I've heard that. So Nyjalik Kelly, Jaleel Skinner, Chris Graves shouldn't be considered blue chips. I learn something new every day on this board.

As for your other question. Is he the best DB coach out there/best we can get? Absolutely not. Would he be a good hire? Absolutely. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Dennis Smith from La Tech. 4 defensive coaches, 5 offensive coaches, and ST coach.

Rules allow for an extra coach that works with Kickers/Punters. That position doesn’t count towards the 10. That position isnt allowed to go on the road and recuit either.

Figure that one of the 10 will get the title of ST but in reality Smith will be the actual ST coach.

Lol at people demanding there be only one standard for “blue chip” and everyone adopt it. **** you. I make my own definition. And that excludes all but a handful of guys Miami has signed over the last decade.

Aristide was known as a big time recruiter while at TAMU but has he done a thing here recruiting wise over the last year? I know the LBs weren’t developed for **** and I don’t think the Strikers played that well either - so I feel we can replace him very easily.
Aristide was here for four weeks leading up to last signing day and Manny was gone by November. What exactly were you expecting from him recruiting wise in the time that he was here?

neither he nor DVD nor Patke should have been coaching on the filed at UM, hence why the D was terrible last year

4&5 stars are blue chips, there's nothing to argue about

Not trying to argue with you. But there is a much bigger variance on low 4 star performance in college than the Top 100-150 kids.

...

Personally, the blue-chip thing is ridiculously overplayed. Shadow had the "grandmother rule" -- i.e., if your grandmother can see the kid is a playmaker in high school, he probably is. I've lived by that. Chase Smith was only a 3-star when I saw his tape. Kid hit my grandmother meter regardless of what 247 or Rivals/Canesport guys said. In the reverse, there were guys like Ezzard that I just didn't see it.

Also, those scouting guys can't see all the games, so they base a lot of their rankings on a few highlight clips and the camps. And they overinflate kids like Pope that light it up at the camps but don't have elite productivity in high school.

Cokers' staff used the rankings to offer kids, and we ended up with guys like Charlie Jones and Lance Leggett. At the end of the day, it's all about evals. I believe Mario is elite at evals, so really don't care what the stars are on the kids he offers.
