Unfortunately couch regressed big time and the difference was DVD. CB’s did not look good this year. All we can judge him on is their performance. He can recruit though. I’d rather have Chance as CB coach and DVD off field JMO.
Didn’t he get eaten alive by Okie State in the bowl game or was that someone else?

i would be interested if some sort of metric that compares how your defense does versus how each offense you play works out

e.g., avg points per drive you give up versus avg ppd each offense you play against achieves (using only P5 opponents)

or ypc, ypa again balancing what you gave up versus what your opponent usually achieves

“We don’t shoot from the hip on anything,” Cristobal told WSVN. “We have a lot of good players on this football team and we will assess every single person. We’ll do body fat, body comp, bone density, we’ll do it all to make sure that we have a specific plan and a path for everyone in the program to develop.”

ok. i am definitely aroused.
Surprised (kinda) that this wasn't already in place.

You just perfectly explained why total defense is a worthless stat.

Here is another one: The San Diego Chargers ranked first in overall offense and defense per game in 2010. They didnt make the playoffs.

There are so many well thought of stats and people use the one that gets influenced by garbage time and doesnt adjust for down and distance, score and opponent. Its mind-blowing.
Their STs unit was historically bad that year.

Cool story. In early 80’s we played them in baseball and they had a girl who played 2nd. My teammates were talking sheet till I told them she was better. I did run her over to knock the ball out. She did get a hit off me…real ego popper…lol

My stepdad Bill Zumberis was also the basketball and baseball coach but was gone by that time to Texas. They won state a couple times while he was there and he was voted coach of the year in both football and baseball at one time or another..I played at Key West and we won the state in ‘69

I promise you that it's possible to keep ppg low while also stopping teams from moving the ball.

As for the absolute bull **** Chargers example, they were 2nd in PPG and 10th in defensive PPG so all you did was bring up a dumb aberration to try and prove a point.

Here's a tip: Don't use statistical outliers. Makes you look desperate.
Well, you just made the Chargers example even more valid, thanks for that. Saved a lot of time for me.

Sure, its possible to keep ppg and ypg low. Still doesnt make ypg in any way, shape or form relevant.

And you are giving me tips on statistics? Lmfao, you are not even trying to understand why total stats suck even tho I explained it to you in the most basic way possible.

DVOA, EPA/Play and all of the other nice metrics that Football Outsiders uses.

Anyone with half a brain can look up total defense statistics and correlate them to wins. You saying it's worthless means there would be absolutely no correlation whatsoever which means you may be looking to buy at minimum half a brain.

My historical experience is that Jan 2 - Jan 20 or so is the most crowded time of year at the gym. Around MLK weekend, the resolvers tend to dissipate, and by February, they are once again incognito.

That’s why I usually make my resolution to start Feb 1 so I can spend my 2 weeks in piece before I say fck it 😜

Hold my Jamesons...

He’s already getting on peoples nerves..Woodward went roque and hired him and ****ed off a bunch of people that wanted O’Brien and then as soon as he gets there he starts acting the fool with the accent and dancing foolishness….all I know is he better win right out of the gate or Tommy Moffet and Bob Shaw will be trying to put his buyout together real early in year 2…😂😂😂

Anyone with half a brain knows that correlation doesnt mean **** either. Apart from the fact that advanced metrics correlate with wins way more than total stats, here is a very basic example as to why correlation doesnt matter until a causation has been proven:

Ice cream sales correlate with shark attacks.

You're welcome.

That's not necessarily his scheme. Mason is a defensive guru who uses a 2 gap as a way to stop the spread. The thing with Mason is that his D isn't the typical 2 gap read and react. If he has a guy like Taylor he is going to use him. Mason pieces together different schemes and concepts and he likes to be aggressive. We would be lucky to have him. His defense would look nothing like Donofrio's. What you can be sure of is that his defenses will be fundamentally sound, disciplined and extremely well taught and prepared. Mason is also known for his game to game scheming. He prepares for each team differently based on that teams strengths and weaknesses. He is also very good at building an identity around the type of talent he has. He may play a team in a bend don't break manner one week then call all sorts of exotic blitzes and coverages the next. Like I said the guy is a defensive guru.
Oh I know it won’t look like donofrio and I know he uses multiple looks. I know he is a good defensive coach my thing was for the type money it would cost to get him here is he worth it

Anyone have thoughts on Anthony Campanile? Dolphins LB coach.

Michigan - LB coach
BC - Co DC / DBs
And several roles at Rutgers.

I remember his name getting thrown in the mix for some DC roles after his one season with Michigan.

relatively few are in England.

Actually, no. I guess you’ve never heard of Hadrian’s Wall. London (name is actually a Latin name: Londinium) was basically a Roman town for hundreds of years. There are literally thousands of archaeological sites underground that haven’t even been discovered. But ok.

That’s actually relatively a lot, especially considering the distance from Rome to London. No planes, trains or automobile, no powered boats, no form of modern conveyances.
