Some all important Freshman 40 numbers

Duke also hack squatted 385...whatever the fluck that means..maybe one of you gym freaks can tell us what that means

Hack squat is when you hold the bar behind you and the motion is like sitting in a chair. The weight comes up to your *** and you squat until the bar touches the ground. Pretty impressive for someone of his size.

Chickillo's numbers aren't as good as you'd think: 355 bench press, 420 pound squat. For comparison, Perryman is at 400 bench press and 525 squat.

Perryman is an athletic freak. Chickillo is still just a sophomore, with barely a full year of weight training. I like his progression. By the time he hits senior year, he should be in the 400 bench range and 600 squat range. I think his number just get overshadowed by the freaks on the team, of which there are a few. I mean Kirby's numbers are just silly.

Deon is already a sub-4.5 guy? Nice. He might be sub 4.4 by the time he leaves. He's so athletically gifted. Hopefully he puts in the work because he can be a great one.

I also like Jenkins' time for a true freshman. He should be sub 4.5 with proper training and technique as well. I can't wait until we have two athletic safeties back there who aren't liabilities in coverage.

Very curious to see McCord's numbers. He's looked a little light in the practice videos. Skilled and fast, no doubt, but its unfortunate we prolly can't afford for him to 'shirt this year since there is no depth on the end.

I see there is a lot of people that keep saying we don't have depth at the DE position. So, what do you call this...

Chick
Green
Cain
R.Williams
McCord
Hoilett
Hamilton
O'Donnell

Yes we are young but there is adequate depth. The top 3 have playing time, R. Williams RS last year and will see the field and the youngster may get some PT this year, well at least 2. But we have depthmaybe not in classes but **** sure in #'s. Yeah he (McCord) probably wont RS but he will gain experience. I think that is much better for him. He will understand the speed of the game and prepare for is SO year... Can have a FR season like Chick... IMO

Coming into this summer I voiced my concerns over Tracy Howard's ability to play corner at the D1 level. I based my concerns from seeing him get abused with regularity at the Nike Sparq camps. He simply did not have the top end speed necessary to hang with the nation's elite. It was evident.

So now he's on campus and the reports are glaringly positive. Yet I see this number above. SFbay luvz him some Greentree All-Americans as much as the next Canes fan but I still remain skeptical about Howard at corner. How many top shelf D1 corners have 40 times in the mid 4.6 range?

Blackvern your thoughts on Waters time?

You were pretty outspoken about him being a 4.75 guy.

his speed will improve. Have to remember Hank came in running a 4.7. By next year Howard is probably running a 4.5 at least. And 4.6 in college isn't that big of a deal. Dre Bly was an all american and he barely was 4.6 running. Watch the combine and see all the guys who are big time college CBs who run 4.6 and slower. Some can't make the transition to the NFL and others just are good football players and excel no matter if its high school, college or pros.

Yea I have to admit that surprised me, he ran 4.7's at a few of the camps he went to.. EVen at the opening he ran 4.73 and a 4.71. I have to get in my mind that these dudes are only 17 year old and they sometimes can get faster. I just never saw 4.55 on tapes and his 40 at the opening also reassured my skepticism..

By the way Raphael Kirby ran a 4.8 this spring now hes running a 4.6 can you really shed .2 in a 40 in a few months?

I dont know about that sfbay cane.. He got beat on one play against Stacy Coley.. His play at the camps are what made him a 5 star. Just an FYI most corners WR's dont getr 5 star status these days by their play on the field.they get it from these camps.

Vern,
Not true. Tracy Howard had multiple bad 7 on 7 performances at camps. Bakas wrote about it when Howard attended one of the camps he worked. He also refused to run the 40 at any of the camps he attended including the Nike Sparq camp. His top end speed is lacking and he knew it. Once that shows up on film, the craftier offensive coordinators will find ways exploit it.

Obviously it would be nice if he had great top end speed but he has great instincts for the game. Richard Sherman was the top rookie Corner last year and he's in the 4.55 range as is Brandon Flowers. No doubt that Tracey will be in the 4.4-4.5 range after a few years.
