Soccer stadium

I believe Beckham's group knows the University of Miami could be a helpful partner and 45,000 seats are necessary. Site north of Marlins park and Tropical are viable locations.

7451 isn't a Miami fan. There's no way he believes any of that stuff. As soon as he wrote that winning would cure Miami's attendance woes I knew he wasn't one of us. Everyone in the family knows that isn't true.

I have been a Hurricane fan for decades and a member in the Hurricane Club. I don't want my Canes being associated with a girly sport of soccer and a underwear model that is just the male versions of kim kardashian that will damage the U trying to make money off of the University of Miami.

Nope. You're not a Hurricane fan for decades. Your thought process and comments are too infantile. It seems you're a troll. It will be continuously beneficial for our rivals , for the "U" NOT to do what Stanford did in downsizing to 50K from 80K, which gave Stanford a great atmosphere and more importantly, a home field advantage. Anyway, the cards are on the table. If the "U" goes with Beckkam and the port . We can count on you staying at home, which is a good thing :-)

Your not a Canes fan you are a David Beckham soccer fan that wants to bankrupt UM's Athletic program by losing all our football revenue to help Beckham. Football is a man's sport and it should never be disgraced by playing on a soccer field. Miami would be the laughing stock of the nation being 2nd fiddle to a MLS soccer team in a tiny stadium where we could never make enough money to have a winning program. Beckham is just using Miami to get what he wants from the city/county.

I want the Canes to win championships and that is going to take money that Beckham wants to steal from the U. Beckham doesn't care about UM and never will. The U will never play on Dodge Island it is a horrible locations with no parking. Only a fool would think Beckham would pay for adding 40K or more seats to a soccer stadium after the last two professional soccer teams bankrupted in South Florida. I bet Beckham's stadium ends up next to Marlins Park.

Good lord you're a Golden clone aren't you?

Excuses upon excuses with stuff that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Our athletic department.

Like who gives a flying **** what they do with the rest of the university??? I mean really? Does that win football games or put fans in the seats?

Stop typing and per your apostrophes line I could care less when typing from a phone.

You mad? Mr. Master's Degree can't hold a candle to Donna Shalala, and that royally ****es him off.

No it doesn't but you're obviously an idiot who doesn't understand the difference between academics and athletic's.

To be fair you said "administration" in the original post. Administration is pretty synonymous around here with Shalala and the School. Now had you said Athletic Department then you wouldn't have had to explain yourself repeatedly.

In the relative short lifespan of this site...I nominate this for worst post ever submitted on these forums.

This just reaks of ignorance.
epic ignorance. you don't have to be a soccer fan but only a fool would contend that beckham is not a serious accomplished individual with massive appeal, connections and access to money including his own wealth.

That guy just really hates soccer.

Yes I hate everything about soccer coming to South Florida and Beckham that is trying to use UM to help him. The MLS is a direct competitor for sports dollars that UM is competing for those same dollars. The point is MONEY. Miami's Athletic Dept was in red ink for -$2.5M last year with a average of 53K tickets sold per game. We can't play in a 40K stadium selling 33% less tickets than we did in 2013 and also lose 100% of the parking revenue. It takes money to win Championships and massive red ink is just going to make UM downgrade their entire Athletic program. Beckham does care about UM he just wants to steal as many fans sports dollars from UM and every other team he can.

Beckham doesn't care anything about UM and won't spend any of his money building a stadium to accommodate UM's football. Beckham is using UM to get Donna's political help to get that Port of Miami site. The city wants him to take the Marlin Park site to help pay for their stupid investment in the Marlins that included parking garages that aren't making any money. The only reason Beckham is pretending to extend a offer to UM is to help him get the larger site at the Port of Miami. Donna and Blake James know they are being played and I just hope Beckham is donating money to UM for their support. Donna is doing her job of working his MLS cash buddies for donations to UM.

If and when Beckham gets the Port Site he will drop UM as fast as he can since he isn't going to spend his MLS money building a football stadium that would meet UM's needs. Beckham wants to build a hotel and shopping district in the area not spend his money to build a football stadium that is only used 6 days a year. Anyone that thinks a English soccer star is going to give UM a free stadium upgrade is just too gullible to reason with.

Beckham doesn't give a flip about UM beyond using UM and Donna to help him get the Port site for him. He has barley enough money to build his MLS stadium that will be no larger than 25K stadium. Beckham's $80 Million isn't going to build a 40K stadium and even if it would it would be horrible compared to SLS.

Beckham does not need Shalala to help at the port site. I know this for 1000% fact. Your conspiracy theory is pure nonsense It's so way, way off ,it's laughable from someone that knows!. P.S. Beckham'sgroup initial renderings are very, very nice

So tell me since you claim to know all this inside information, Why Beckham would spend all this extra money he doesn't have yet on building a stadium to fit the Canes football requirements? The MLS Fusion went bankrupt in Miami that proved once again this isn't a soccer area. So building a extra large soccer stadium would be foolish if the MLS team was his 1st priority.

Beckham doesn't have this type of money. The more people Beckham has to include to get the extra money to build a over sized soccer stadium will only reduce the percentage of the team that Beckham and the other investors owns. UM has already said they aren't going to finance any of this stadium. It would be foolish for UM to put any money into this stadium since this MLS team could bankrupt again in Miami.

Beckham won't even be the majority team owner since the investors that are paying for the stadium construction will be the real money men that own this MLS team.

You nor I can claim to know what he has or doesn't have. But, let's get a glimpse of his associate/partner.

In 2007, Time magazine named Fuller one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2008, Fuller was certified as the most successful British music manager of all time by Billboard magazine. The 2012 Sunday Times Rich List values Fuller at £375m; the sixth richest music millionaire in Britain. In the Daily Mail in 2012, music promoter Harvey Goldsmith ranked Fuller at No.1 in a list of the greatest British Entrepreneurs, commenting; "he is a man of real vision".

Here is some vision

August 2011 friendly between FC Barcelona and Chivas Guadalajara that drew a record crowd of 70,080 fans to Sun Life Stadium.

UM is part of that vision. I hope UM takes the path of Stanford, which downsized from a monster 80K stadium, ours is the 5th largest NFL stadium, to their intimate and great atmosphere 50K, which increased season tickets sales. And, on your traffic issue. FEC is building a very impressive Grand Central Station minutes from the port. The route runs all the way up the east coast to Orlando. I know you're looking to be parachuted into the stadium, but they're not there yet :-)

You called my theory nonsenses. You are delusional if you think Beckham is going to spend money he doesn't have to over build a stadium that would fit UM's needs. Show me where Beckham said he will pay for a UM size stadium of at least 40K instead of blowing smoke up every ones butt pretending you have insider information on this deal?

Beckham personally doesn't even have enough of his own financial resources to pay the $25M MLS license fee without other investors. Beckham is just the pretty boy underwear model that is the PR guy for this MLS team and minority owner. The only vision Beckham has is being a puppet for the money guys behind him.

BTW, your vision needs glasses since two soccer teams have failed in South Florida in the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Miami Fusion.

You've got to quit thinking that every number just transfers over to a new stadium. A new, cozy stadium brings a lot of excitement, which means we actually get people to show up instead of talking about how many tickets were distributed. More people in the stadium means more concession sales, program sales, merchandise sales, etc. All of that brings a great atmosphere, and lo and behold, a home field advantage. Home field advantage brings more wins, more recruits, and more national exposure. More national exposure means prime time games and more national merchandise sales, and possibly two BCS bowls for the conference.

Not to mention that with only 30,000 seats available to the general public, we can charge $500 for every season ticket instead of handing out 30,000 tickets at $20 each like we do now.

But your idea is to stay in a giant warehouse where no one gets excited for games, ESPN sticks us at noon, and the program is dying off. All because you hate soccer. SMH.

not to mention the notion that somehow soccer is going to steal fans or fan support from the university of miami football is unlikely. they appeal to totally different audiences and to the extent the audiences overlap people aren't going to stop coming to canes games because they want to go to soccer games.
