Soccer stadium

A large percentage of schools should lump all profits from logo licensing into their athletic department's "revenues raised" column-specifically football and sometimes basketball. Give me 100 people wearing Canes gear and you'll be lucky to get 1 that can even tell you the name of the music school.

Again, with the Beckham bait and switch theory too on here? Jesu Christo. Oversimplify things much? "Hahaha, City of Miami! You gave me the land no strings attached! I just screwed UM and there's nothing you can do!". Sure, we have some dumb politicians here and say what you will about Dahhhhna but it ain't going to go down like that. UM will either be firmly on board or they won't prior to that land being given. These politicians are starstruck with Beckham but they're still going to want to know exactly what he's building prior.

Beckham doesn't care anything about UM and won't spend any of his money building a stadium to accommodate UM's football. Beckham is using UM to get Donna's political help to get that Port of Miami site. The city wants him to take the Marlin Park site to help pay for their stupid investment in the Marlins that included parking garages that aren't making any money. The only reason Beckham is pretending to extend a offer to UM is to help him get the larger site at the Port of Miami. Donna and Blake James know they are being played and I just hope Beckham is donating money to UM for their support. Donna is doing her job of working his MLS cash buddies for donations to UM.

If and when Beckham gets the Port Site he will drop UM as fast as he can since he isn't going to spend his MLS money building a football stadium that would meet UM's needs. Beckham wants to build a hotel and shopping district in the area not spend his money to build a football stadium that is only used 6 days a year. Anyone that thinks a English soccer star is going to give UM a free stadium upgrade is just too gullible to reason with.

Beckham doesn't give a flip about UM beyond using UM and Donna to help him get the Port site for him. He has barley enough money to build his MLS stadium that will be no larger than 25K stadium. Beckham's $80 Million isn't going to build a 40K stadium and even if it would it would be horrible compared to SLS.

Beckham does not need Shalala to help at the port site. I know this for 1000% fact. Your conspiracy theory is pure nonsense It's so way, way off ,it's laughable from someone that knows!. P.S. Beckham'sgroup initial renderings are very, very nice

So tell me since you claim to know all this inside information, Why Beckham would spend all this extra money he doesn't have yet on building a stadium to fit the Canes football requirements? The MLS Fusion went bankrupt in Miami that proved once again this isn't a soccer area. So building a extra large soccer stadium would be foolish if the MLS team was his 1st priority.

Beckham doesn't have this type of money. The more people Beckham has to include to get the extra money to build a over sized soccer stadium will only reduce the percentage of the team that Beckham and the other investors owns. UM has already said they aren't going to finance any of this stadium. It would be foolish for UM to put any money into this stadium since this MLS team could bankrupt again in Miami.

Beckham won't even be the majority team owner since the investors that are paying for the stadium construction will be the real money men that own this MLS team.

A new football stadium costs 1 billion dollars with today's construction costs. Giants & Jets new stadium was well over a billion. Who do you think runs the construction unions & contracts. The ****ing mob does, don't confuse miami with Baylor dumb asses.

You truly cannot be this ignorant. You honestly don't believe that you can build a football stadium for under one billion dollars??? You could easily build a very nice stadium for probably between 300 & 400 million. I work in the construction industry and I am very familiar with current construction costs with both union and non-union labor as well as material. Especially a stadium that would hold 50-55K people. Their would not be anywhere near the bells and whistles of what the new Cowboys or Giants/Jets has.

None of this really matters. Beckham's group can't afford the land on Dodge Island. All sides say the group will have to pay value for county land. The county (it's county land, not city land) has no interest in selling any part of that corner of the island (reasonable sale price would be well into 9 figures - look at the Genting property as a comparable - 14 acres for $211,000,000+ just north on Biscayne Blvd., with 14 acres also being almost the exact size of the parcel on which Marlins Stadium sits, not counting the garages). Lease rates were discussed in one of the Herald articles. He should try for Kendall - there is interest in a soccer complex with an academy out there. The county better not go and give this group or anyone else a sweetheart deal.

If they know the arrangement, then they are playing the game, not being played. I see no negative in building a relationship with David Beckham.

Exactly. I have no issue with getting into bed with Beckham.

Globally the Beckham brand is bigger than the U brand.

the field of play has to be about 22 yards wider for soccer. that is 11 yards each sideline or 33 feet for those of you who are math challenged. 33 feet is quite a lot of space but they do play soccer in gilette stadium so it doesn't have to be as far away as dolphin stadium is.

This is what the side line view will look like for football in a MLS stadium. This is football played on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium

This is just as bad as the side line view at SLS which is the major problem I have with playing at SLS is the gap between the sidelines and the playing field. Forget about getting a lot of fan noise there especially is a smaller stadium that is open on one or both ends.

So? Isn't this a shared facility too? Yeah, they pump in artificial noise but still...

LOL sure Tad be totally dishonest and pretend that is the size & height of the MLS stadium with closed end stadium design and a stadium roof that closes that Beckham is going to build on Dodge Island for $80M. I posted a real MLS stadium that they build for MLS soccer and you try to use a NFL stadium picture just like UM plays in now at SLS.

Look at your picture with the wide gap between the side lines of the playing field and the huge gap to the seats when the seattle seahawks are playing. Thanks for proving my point that the reason SLS sucks is because it was designed and built to accommodate soccer. SLS had to spend millions to rip out sections of seats to shoe horn in baseball. However if the Fins had got that last upgrade money from voters they would have put SLS back in the same configuration and narrowing the gap to SLS original dimensions. Beckham's MLS stadium will have a wide gap between the fans and the football field side lines that are similar to what SLS has now. Why SLS sucks as a football field is because it was designed to accommodate soccer.

I'm being dishonest but you just described this place as "closed end" and with a "stadium roof that closes". Yep, no open-air here. I see none. I'm not saying Beckham's design would replicate this in any way but the crux of your argument based in fact is your obsession with the size of the sidelines. Enjoy your weak sauce and feel free to meet me over at the Architecture School and we'll discuss possible configurations to maximize acoustics. Please feel free to bring the design plans that you're obviously privy to too. I'm beginning to believe that you must live in Palm Beach County somewhere and just don't want to drive as your opposition in the face of no real alternatives is too strident. Just carpool with someone, bro.

Look how close the fans are! God I hate sun life with a passion. Really, I am in favor of anything that get's us out of that sh**hole.

In 2007, Time magazine named Fuller one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2008, Fuller was certified as the most successful British music manager of all time by Billboard magazine. The 2012 Sunday Times Rich List values Fuller at £375m; the sixth richest music millionaire in Britain. UM is part of that vision. I hope UM takes the path of Stanford, which downsized from a monster 80K stadium, ours is the 5th largest NFL stadium, to their intimate and great atmosphere 50K, which increased season tickets sales. And, on your traffic issue. FEC is building a very impressive Grand Central Station minutes from the port. The route runs all the way up the east coast to Orlando. I know you're looking to be parachuted into the stadium, but they're not there yet :-)

He wants a bigger stadium to host large events! Concerts, big-time FIFA matches, etc. ****, they could easily host a bowl game there in that beautiful setting. Guys like Beckham and Fuller aren't getting involved in in something like this just to have a pee-wee facility for a minor league soccer association!

But to do be able to justify the costs associated with a larger, nicer facility on a PREMIUM piece of land, he needs tenants. UM would give 7 big time events every fall, as well as a major local voice in politics to help push this whole thing through. If you want to make a large soccer stadium anyway, it doesn't cost much more to make it compatible with football. But your revenues go WAY up.

Why is this so hard to understand??

You nor I can claim to know what he has or doesn't have. But, let's get a glimpse of his associate/partner.

In the Daily Mail in 2012, music promoter Harvey Goldsmith ranked Fuller at No.1 in a list of the greatest British Entrepreneurs, commenting; "he is a man of real vision".

Here is some vision

August 2011 friendly between FC Barcelona and Chivas Guadalajara that drew a record crowd of 70,080 fans to Sun Life Stadium.

You called my theory nonsenses. You are delusional if you think Beckham is going to spend money he doesn't have to over build a stadium that would fit UM's needs. Show me where Beckham said he will pay for a UM size stadium of at least 40K instead of blowing smoke up every ones butt pretending you have insider information on this deal?

Beckham personally doesn't even have enough of his own financial resources to pay the $25M MLS license fee without other investors. Beckham is just the pretty boy underwear model that is the PR guy for this MLS team and minority owner. The only vision Beckham has is being a puppet for the money guys behind him.

BTW, your vision needs glasses since two soccer teams have failed in South Florida in the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Miami Fusion.

this guy dissing Beckham is clueless. the guy has as good as a reputation of anyone that would come in here and attempt to extract money or land from the local politicians and electorate. plus he is one of the most recognizable names/faces on the planet and people in miami love being associated with someone with this star power. this is probably the best chance we have absent raising the money on our own.

i am under no delusions that this will happen or will work for us but anyone that snickers at Beckham and this potential association is a fool.

A simple google search says he is worth $300 million. The richest athlete in The world. 2nd of all, he became pro at 16 so i am pretty sure he didnt graduate high school. His finance people i am sure are telling him what to so. He is not dumb enough to use people from his neighborhood to be his advisors. They will do what is best for them. Whatever that is

BS on the Concerts with the American Airlines Arena, BaySide Park, Adrienne Arsht Center - Carnival Studio Theater - Knight Concert Hall all in the same areas and people wouldn't even have to walk across a bridge to Dodge Island to get there. Then there are other better Concerts sites like Magic City Casino, Jackie Gleason Theater, Ziff Opera House, Bank Atlantic Center and then Sun Life Stadium. You don't know what you are talking about.

7451 isn't a Miami fan. There's no way he believes any of that stuff. As soon as he wrote that winning would cure Miami's attendance woes I knew he wasn't one of us. Everyone in the family knows that isn't true.

I have been a Hurricane fan for decades and a member in the Hurricane Club. I don't want my Canes being associated with a girly sport of soccer and a underwear model that is just the male versions of kim kardashian that will damage the U trying to make money off of the University of Miami.

This is stupid and ignorant.

True. Even winning, we need "event" games to draw huge. ****, even the Dolphins in the undefeated season had thousands of no-shows every week. They would announce the number and people would boo, but it was always several thousand. This is Miami. We love football. We love winning even more. But we love having lots of stuff to do even more. Even Bama fans were leaving games early this year. 50 - 55 k is a decent number. Close to field and up -- not sprawling building. Match to OB as much as possible -- no place was or is better. We made some much noise there that NFL wanted to penalize fans for noise. Anyone remember old Ken Stabler waving a white towel in surrender in a playff game. West end was the greatest place on earth.

In the relative short lifespan of this site...I nominate this for worst post ever submitted on these forums.

This just reaks of ignorance.

epic ignorance. you don't have to be a soccer fan but only a fool would contend that beckham is not a serious accomplished individual with massive appeal, connections and access to money including his own wealth.
