So barry jackson says...

lol u guys r ridiculous. every school in the country for the most part cares about their image. no school wants to be associated w bull****. it seems like most of you guys forget UM is a SCHOOL not solely a football program and there are other factors that school officials have to consider.

I guess your content with 48th ranked academics and 48th ranked football.

Personally, I'd rather add the 47 back to the academics and get back to #1.

obviously I'm not but do u really think a documentary is gonna get us back to number 1 lol? thats a joke. who cares if the program wants to be associated with it or not, just win on the field and get that thing right. all the other stuff is just noise and distractions they don't need. who cares how we look on ESPN. well get more recruits and more air time if we just start winning again.

Hoops 156 and other alums... people know Miami is a University first. However, what would the school be known for without that footbal program? would it really be seen for its fine academic programs on its own?! Athletics is a great marketing tool for students overall, winning raises applications per year. I personally believe that this view of class and academics affects some coaching hires we've made recently. With the exception of the ivy league mich NW Stanford, what would you know about say, boise st. or utah? It seems like the 80's image pleases non alum fans and thats ok cause our core fan base is about 25k. Why make it smaller by pushing those wild 80's fans away? Most people that aren't canes fans still see the image so trying to adapt makes no sense.

As a current grad student, I want um to get better academically. However, there is a soft cap to where we can go. Miami won't rise above the ivy leagues, the older private schools, and the respected state schools like Virginia, UNC, Mich, and cal.

Ever.

Miami is one if the youngest school in the top 50. The older schools aren't going anywhere.

We just have to keep Academics ranking where it's at and keep being the best in the state.

Now bring the football program upto par. Our basketball and baseball teams have had recent success. Football gets more talent and resources than all other sports combined. Do something with it or gtfo

...but weren't we pretty solid academically back in the late 90's/early 2000's...and were still blowing people out on the field AND talking **** to them if not the whole time, but at least a good amount of it?

It may have not been Thrill Hill doing the George Jefferson after a TD catch, but we ran train on people at that point and threw up the U in celebration.

Who's to say having swagger & aggression and being intelligent enough to attend a great academic university HAVE to be mutually exclusive?

We understand that they care about image. But have some respect for the good paying folks who come to the games and want to see us start actually looking like a top tier team again...Sorry but I dont want to hear from any high ranking official discussing anything image wise or academic wise until we get this team back on track. We get it..Our kids all graduate AND they are saints to boot..GREAT! Now WTF are we going to do about that W/L column and that empty ACC championship trophy case?

Signed,

33 year season ticket holder

What positive comes out of the administration appearing in or supporting the video?

Let me remind you of the criticism Shalala receives from accepting a check from a NOW known con artist at a public event.

Yep, can't believe she wasn't in fatigues slapping hands with Luke, singing It's your Birthday! after he rolls his eyes when interviewed about paying players.

Past Secretary of HHS should definitely get support behind the Federal Pell Grant scandal. That screams of a positive vibe to get funding and grants to the University.

Golden can't do Canes Reports without getting criticized for talking too much and winning too little.

GTFOH with this bull****.

BW and cane305 they're not mutually excluse but when we start winning I'd love to see trash talking and blowouts commence. Golden lacks the ruthless nature of running up the score cause as he puts it:" I've been on the other side too many times." it's time to be ok w/wearing the black hat, coach.

This isn't about an alumni v. non-alumni. This isn't about thugs v. angels.

This is about priorities. This is about what is important to the school. For some reason, the school thinks that it is mutually exclusive (great academics and behaved student athletes v. winning and no control) which is completely backwards thinking. Clearly a school can be elite ACADEMICALLY and have success (ND was in the National Championship a year ago, Stanford is doing well too).

It starts with the President + Admin.

I agree. My quote was more about bridging that gap between the alums that love the faux-Ivy image and the non-alum wild-*** fatigue-wearing ****-talkers.

You can do both. If Richard Sherman can talk all the **** he does, and still get credit for his Stanford education, AND be the game's best CB on top of that...then we can not only be bad boys again, we can be smart bad boys.

Angry Ibis I'm not saying she has to com eout and say the video's F***ING AWESOME! But intensity and lack of killer instinct have really gone missing from the program.

Again Agry Ibis not saying that dude's like Eddie Johnson should still be on the team. I'm saying with quotes like the one I posted above seems like Golden needs to win cleaner than other guys.

Jon Vilma @ KD were articulate bright guys that were football thugs. As of now, IMO Golden is the ultimate "good job, good effort" guy.

My point: the statement from unnamed school big shots is what one can expect them to say.

ooh was that all? LOL agree Bud.

In addition to the underlying point that it is the expected response, IMO, no other response moves the University or Football Team in a positive direction. More likely to go in a negative direction. Either way Shalala and Golden will be criticized by the same people criticizing them now.

Most football players are passionate about the game but there is NOTHING like football in Florida and there are very few who play the game with the same level of passion that Florida football players do.

One of the many things I hate about Alabama is actually watching how they play. They are an all-star blue chipper team with no emotion. They look mechanical, tight and more fearful of losing than fighting for the thrill of victory. The U should always play the game the way football is played in Florida. We should also have the same attitude as old school Canes: "If you don't like it, beat us"

no Eddie Johnson SHOULD still be on the team.

Gabe Terry is a different story.
