Sleeper South Florida Safety

“Sleeper south Florida” etc

Is starting to become the kiss of death for better or worse. Most of the time they don’t pan out or try to play Miami especially at db..

Although I disagree, because the staff simply made poor evaluations...let's be real.

Miami has almost no choice here...

South Florida is KNOWN for good DBs and WRs, so if Miami passes on a 3* South Florida kid, it better be a blue chip out of state stud. It HAS to be a really good eval to go out of state for an under the radar skill position player.

Edit: forgot to add. Because kids and coaches in the area will hold it against Miami just like Chad Wilson.

Whew idk lol, Malek Young was well on his way to doing so but I’m not sure I would Put him in the category of a 3star sleeper db from south Florida. Everyone knew about him and he had big time offers and was an army all American.

Wasnt Malek a 4* anyways?

You are making too many categories...This guy fits in the sleeper category, this guy doesn't, etc, etc, etc...I'll admit some late takes haven't worked out, but you need depth and you need to have depth to hold practices, so you take the late flyer.

Need to evaluate....The names should be known by this staff now. The Powell kid just posted looks like a good one, for instance.

We will see dmoney but it’s not a recipe for success if you continue to have to do that. Db classes like the 2018 class should be the standard and imo it’s possible.

If you take one or two of these guys (RB/WR/DB/LB) every year as your eyetest or camp evaluation, I've got no problem with it...but you need excellent coaches, too. They've got to be usable players, at least on specials as well. Nothing wrong with some lunch pail guys in in the bottom 1/4 of your roster, but they need to be able to take some snaps on special teams or be role players eventually.

Miami's issue is, we've had poor position coaches so these developmental players never develop and become unusable. This happens for raw higher end prospects like - for example - Bar Milo, nevermind your eyetest evaluations like Robert Knowles, and this problem expounds exponentially when its a reach take late in the process (Terrence Henley).

Typical SF good athlete...very average DB...R/P recognize skills are average....need to see more film of him running the alley with regard to run fits...I say pass imho

First year In the back end....played in the box as a LB for B.A. last year.

Along w Emerson(who I don't even know if he's still on the board) is a strong backup plan for Stevenson at safety.

I'd get an stay in touch w him for sure and have a better sense by the end of this month if you are going to need to offer and be aggressive.

Personally believe Miami can mix these prospects in with some of the higher ranked kids down in South Florida and be very successful. As long as the scheme and coaching is in place to develop...

That’s what they should be doing. It’s not all about stars. You need both. Not even 50-50. Just get the top talent. Top performers. Some of y’all would be surprised how much talent is in our region, let alone the state. That’s why I thought the thread talking about leaving the state was crazy. We really don’t have to if coaches do what they are supposed to. Unfortunately, college coaches have become become lazy recruiters. They don’t do proper evaluations.
