Simple but telling stat

Remember people said we have 10 players who will get drafted? Good times
Uh, like on the roster or just this year? Cause Cam Ward, Damien Martinez, Xavier Restrepo, Sam Brown likely will test well and end up drafted, Elijah Arroyo, Jalen Rivers (Mauigoa will end up drafted). Simeon Barrow will likely get drafted, Tyler Baron will get drafted, would it be the biggest shock if Alston or Mauigoa were 7th rounders? not really.... Same with Jacolby George.

So....

I think it's the 4th- 7th rounds where the fringe guys maybe get selected by having some good film in the title games. Those first 3 rounds nfl teams take the best players and rarely compromise on athletic talent. In fact they often overdraft lower production guys with measurables early.
Mich. with four 7th rounders last year...

Id also say the probability of guys declaring is higher coming of a natty.

Its a bit of a chicken and egg argument. I would think 1st rounders or at least rounds 1-3 is the marker we want.

Need to win an ACC ship first-

Defense needs to be rebuilt-

Looking at those teams last night-

Not sure we enough dawgs on defense to make a splash-

Will find out.

In that case Miami should have won it all in the 2000, 2002, and 2003 seasons.

Also, didn’t the 2014 team have the 2nd most NFL draft picks along w/ Bama? Iirc, The 2015 draft had FSU at #1 w/ the most (11 picks), & Miami & Bama were tied for 2nd (7 apiece). That Miami draft featured two 1st Rounders, one 2nd Rounder, & two 3rd Rounders, as well.

If memory does indeed serve correct:
FSU went to the inaugural CFP (13-1)
Bama went to the inaugural CFP (12-2)
Miami….Miami went 6-7 that yr.

Sometimes Twitter puts out blanket statements: Yes Jimmy & Joes matter, but to act like X’s & O’s don’t matter is Tom Foolery.

So you’re telling me the team with the most great players usually wins?

If. X’s and O’s didn’t matter Miami would probably have won the ACC at some point and wouldn’t lose to teams like Georgia Tech, Duke or Virginia all the time.

Elite players at positions that require elite play.

QB
WR
DT
DB

Fill those 4 spots with day 1 picks and you’ll be in the playoffs consistently.

Edit to add - In the current CFB landscape you probably don’t need a 1st round QB.

Player retention is big for the fringe guys. James left early to be a 7th rounder? Kam had a great rookie year so can’t fault him much but he wasn’t a 1-2 rounder. Those the guys we need to hold onto.

And the right mix of athleticism and brains is important. We her a smart player and he’s Corey Flagg. We get a big athlete and he’s Jaden Harris

Player retention and development has been huge: The Buckeyes started 19 players who signed with the school and have combined for more than 520 starts. Many in the signing class of 2021, the foundation for this team, returned because they had contributed nothing to the trophy case inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and refused to let their careers end that way.

"This might be the biggest example of selflessness I have ever been a part of," linebacker Cody Simon said. "So many guys had the opportunity to go first round, second round in the NFL draft. They all came back to play another year together.

Ohio State also paid $20M for its roster, lost two games, didnt win the B10 and like 2014, backed their way into the playoff. They took advantage of that ppportunity.
Yep if it was a 4 team playoff they wouldn't hAve even been in nor should they have.
