Shawn Burgess-Becker question

Shawn & Calvin wanted to be Canes. They day they were going to commit Larry Scott didn't bother to show up at their school.

The day he didn't show up, Mario did. The rest is history.
As I recall they planned on announcing at SFE tryouts on a Sunday.. are you saying they were going to commit at school before that and Scott didn't show?

Not sure why people doubt the info that Tweed brings.

As for people trying to analyze the timeline and whatnot, I'm not sure why it is so hard to understand that there might be a difference of a few days between when a kid announces a commitment to a coach and when they announce it at a previously-scheduled public event.

And just because Larry Scott "makes his living" from recruiting doesn't mean that he can't make a mistake, or that he wasn't instructed to back off by Golden. Miami coaches recruiting in Miami is a huge positive, but it requires a lot of effort, because our coaches can visit a lot more SoFla players, but they also can miss appointments. Greg Mark got fired for missing his recruiting appointments (yes, there were reasons for it, but still...). It's very different if Mario has to travel from Alabama to meet with those players, I guarantee he won't miss that appointment.

We may never know the reasons, but something happened.

Not doubting that's what Tweed heard. I doubt it's truth though because it makes less than zero sense on several levels. If it sounds like nonsense it usually is.

No disrespect Tweed but that's not how it went down. Maybe that's how it appeared. Their coach was on bamas payroll plain and simple. He is the one who ****ed up the visits and yes Calvin did get a car.

Nah. Cal is independently wealthy and got that Camaro and the 26" rims on his own.

At the end of the day he's a South Florida kid who turned his back on his hometown team when they were rebuilding him and needed him the most. Whatever excuse he wants to float about why he bailed on Miami for Alabama, it's not a good one from my perspective as a UM fan.

That's fair. I wouldn't be at all surprised if al's staff screwed things up, but that doesn't get kids off the hook. They could have come to Miami if they'd wanted to and they didn't. That's fine, but they'll pardon me for feeling no sympathy when things don't work out for them.

C'mon man, this can't be true...and if it is, good thing we didn't get either of these divas

How is that being a diva? Scott was recruiting them & basically just stopped. Mario built a relationship & they went to Bama.

Coley was initially recruiting them & then for whatever reason Scott took over.

I am no insider, and the word I got from folks who say they are "connected", predominantly on this board and a couple others say that CR and SBB were never going to play for the old regime. They were using Miami for exposure and to fluff their egos. Kids were always going to a big name SEC school. Once the bag and vehicle was delivered to CR, the rest was history. Kid knew the train wreck that was Hurricane football back then

That's a crazy story.

Then why was Larry Scott regarded as some elite recruiter?

It makes sense as to why Banda didn't give up on recruiting ***an until Fisher sealed the deal.

Guys going to MS ST getting bags sounds right.

Not saying Alabama is Mr. clean, but it ain't hard to recruit to the dominant national program of the era.

And UM was a dumpster fire at that time.
