*Secondary* things don't matter nearly as much as.....

It's about both. We're in South Florida we can get elite dbs even if they aren't 5* but yea the front 7 is the main key. Now I will say I think we're finishing strong on the dline so I'm happy there but I am getting worried because the cbs now ha e a chance to really drop off after next year

This is a passing league; u need shut down DBs as well. You can have a dominant front 7 all u want, but if u have DBs that can’t stick w the WR, then what good is it for? I agree the trenches are extremely important, but let’s not marginalize the importance of having a player like TC who can shut down one side of the field where we can free up our S to play all over the field.

I still think the meltdown on grassy when Butch missed on Bryant McFadden & Corey Bailey who I think were ranked the #1 & #2 CB's in the country that year was better than the TC melt. Those 2 were in our backyard and we ended up signing some kid named Buchannan from Lehigh that turned out to be much better than both & a Round 1 pick. I do agree on the front 7. Our DL faded down the stretch last year and it showed up in the secondary. DL is much bigger need. Signing day is still in February right?

Go Canes!

BINGO.

Not marginalizing. Reminding. Blades is shutdown. Look at the coverage on him and TC fom the all star practices and tell me whos better. Ivey got thrown to 6 times this year. SIX! Thats a shutdown. Frierson is as athletic as TC and more versatile.

TC is amazing. I WANT TC. ****, I want ALL the great ones. But Im pointing out the backlash over it makes sick, especially when its a luxury addition. Look at ANY shut down CB and you will find at least a very active front if not a dominant front.

If i had to choose....give me briggs, chatman, chatfield, silvera, thompson, and a juco De. I'll take another linebacker too.

Going even farther back when Dennis missed on Samari Rolle and Troy Saunders in 93'. These newbies to recruiting just dont understand this type of **** has been happening for over 20 years. And guess what...we get through it and move on.

That said, would love for TC and/or PS Jr to flip the script and jump onboard as alot of posters have jumped off the Titanic WAY too soon. Still 3 weeks until NSD and alot of yall have given up already. LOL. Sheesh.

Well we had a pretty **** good front 7 this year and buttcheeks in the secondary, and made a bunch of awful QBs look like Tom Brady.

Do any of you want to win a title? Then it's all important.

We have our top 4 secondary guys coming back next year. (Jackson, Young, Bandy, Dean) So unless you think none of them are going to make any improvements next year and get better..then I guess you are right and not getting TC will be our doom.

dean hasn't sniffed the field all season and when he did he got merked, young started to get exposed as the year went on, jackson was solid against bigger wideouts but when he was matched up with the quicker more elusive guys he couldn't handle them the same, the only pure corner returning is bandy, we need talent in the secondary as you saw in the bowl game if we actually had more playmakers back there we probably win

as for the thread yes the trenches are important but you also need talent in the secondary like as i said in the bowl game we got pressure had guys in spots but they made no play on the ball, its a must to have a balance on the defense overall can't focus on just one area and hope that the other sorts out thats just not going to work

Bound to happen. Spin season is in effect.

Lol. Your right, I should worry about Rumph not recruiting well. Because you can't win with Blades, Hall, Frierson, and super overrated Ivey. I mean, how many times did they even throw to Ivey this year, 6 times? They must have thought it was too easy.

Also to add to the spin, the fact that Blades started an all star game just because he was locking down the number one receiver in practice all week is reprehensible. Heads need to roll at UA. I just dont see how we can survive with these non elite takes.

The fact that we beat out Georgia AND Alabama FOR ALL FOUR is a joke. They were obviously not takes for them.

END SARCASM.
Beat Bama for Hall and UGA for Frierson, Blades was a Cane at birth and no one challenged us for Ivey, who is actually my favorite recruit. I never said that we can't win with those guys. My thing is none of those guys have the speed/size like TC. Can't just dismiss talent like that just because another position group needs bodies.

Ill never understand the lack of fire in the Xaiver Peters thing. Not saying we haven't made an effort, but hearing he has interest and nothing comes of it stings a bit. Trust the process I guess. And the 2019 LB class lol.

Let me ask; don’t u find it concerning that a kid that Rumph mentored may or may not be considering us? If this wasn’t TC, bro I wouldn’t lose any sleep; but we’re talking about arguably one of the best DB prospects we’ve seen in a long time, in our back yard, coached up by our DB coach, considered a father figure, like family, and TC is not even considering us?? That doesn’t concern u? So it’s not about TC bouncing or not; it’s deeper than that, for me. Again, we don’t truly know anything. It’s been more rumors about TC then Elvis being seen, but if these rumors are in fact true, don’t that bother or concern u?

You need both. It's just easier when you have the talent. And being that we are surrounded by some of the best HS talent in America, it is disappointing when top talent decides to go passed you to a school further away for whatever reason.

I understand your argument but I would say QUALITY DEPTH is more important. And that comes with getting the best talent and sitting them behind even more talented players. BAMA is successful cause if one player isn't performing to their standard, there are 3 players behind him just as good and even more hungry. Not many teams can confidently go to their backup QB and keep opening up their offense. We need to get to a point where, if our SAM LB is not playing up to our standard, his backup come in and their will be no drop off. We don't have that right now.

Ok I can respect that. I just feel like effort at the point is more important in one area than another. I've said many times in this post and on this site that TC should be in Orange and Green. But at the same time I'm not going to lose sleep over it with what we have and what we need.

I don't lack concern its just heavier for me elsewhere.

The problem with our defense is simple.

We aren't physically dominant in the DL. What I mean by this is that we can't get consistent pressure just straight up. We are forced to slant, twist, stunt, etc and bring extra men. Teams figured this out early and that brings us to problem two.

Our secondary isn't physical. When an offense goes for a quick / short passing play, our corners aren't in a position to make the play. There's two reasons for this. One, by and large we don't have physical corners and with receivers bigger than they have ever been, this problem is magnified. Two, that limits us to playing zone and with the added blitzers not where they would traditionally play, we're at a loss.

So the problem, as I see it is Two-fold. Get some more meat on the DL and we seem to have addressed the physical corner this year, but the problem I have there is that I don't see any one of them being a shut down corner.

Edit - The losses of McIntosh and Norton will be felt this year for sure. We better hope the linebackers take a big step forward and some of the new blood can play right away. That doesn't happen, our defense is going to be horrid. The blueprint is there to shred this defense and coaches know it.

Diaz, Diaz, Diaz, who (imo) is a bigger issue than the DL, secondary, and any recruiting mishaps.
