*Secondary* things don't matter nearly as much as.....

Front 7. Thats the Primary concern we should all have. I get the thing with TC, Jobe, and PS2 and blah, blah, blah. But we won't be ANYTHING unless we have ELITE and deep front seven's year in and year out. As a Steelers fan this became reeeealll apparent Sunday. For years yinzers (slang for Pittsbughers) were clamoring for secondary, secondary, secondary. We need safeties, we need cornerbacks, we need this we nee that. So what happened, we spent three early round picks in 2016/17 on Artie, a safety and a nickel. Each one has exceeded expectations (Artie is **** near shut down). And then we signed Joe Haden who is still young and nearly elite and shutdown still.

But what got left behind was front seven depth. We had good top level talent there, but as soon as we had to rotate out we falter. As soon as we lose Shazier (Plantation High School) we become a dumpster fire on defense. As soon as our NT gets hurt s--t is ooooover. If we have depth there, if we have a stable of straight dogs there, we succeed.

Same goes for Miami. Y'all think our defense struggled late in the year because of secondary play? Mind you Redwine got MURKED in the bowl game, Dee struggled early and Malik faded late, but the turnovers, the ability to make plays in the secondary, happens because of what happens UP FRONT. Without the edge rushers containing and bringing heat we falter. Without DT's flushing the pocket and keeping the point of attack, we falter. Without LBs protecting that last line of defense we falter.

It can be TC this and TC that, love to have him but he's not the last piece. Or Surtain, and **** sure not Bama boy. Right now we have top level. Shaq, Pinck, 5-3, JJ, Garvin, Willis. But we need that area to be second to none.

Thats why we need to close Briggs. Thats why we need to close Nesta, Chat, and Chapman and most importantly Thompson. Gimme that Juco DE too. Gimme every able body that can make life **** upfront. Only way we win this thing is relentless force at attack.

DB's are, won't say dime a dozen but **** if you can't find way more DB's than you can trench bullies.

Y'all need to stop worrying about the shiny *Secondary* things and put all the cash on the biggest **** elephants in the room, right upfront.

I honestly think we could have a class full of 5 Stars, and some would call the class a failure bc we missed on TC.

We close with Silvera, Briggs, Chatman, Ezzard, and Chatfield and this is the best class in a decade. No way this class is a failure bc of one player (albeit, a very special player).

You need everything and w/ College unlike the Pros you can pick up whoever want every year and never have to settle for this position or that position.

with that being said many on this board suffer from thinking "the grass is always greener." they are really under valueing the studs that have signed with us and the type of upside they have. The 4 already signed have all american potential. TC and PS2 also have all american potential. But ppl want to focus on them because they are National names that haven't committed to anyone yet.

That was also an underlying point of mine. WE GOT DBs.

Everyone keeps saying DT DT DT disregarding elite secondaries. This is college football, you can have both. And we should have both.

Not saying you can't. But one is vastly more important. I don't think there is a team that won anything because they had hall of famers in the scondary and backups in the front. However, the oppposite has been the calling card for many a great team.

Lol at this rationalizing.

Some people NEVER learn.

We are just like Richts UGA, and that sucks.

Mike Rumph is the biggest disgrace to the U of all time. Time to move on.

You are 100 percent correct...and I'm new to this board....i played ball.in florida, SEC and was a draft pick in the league...just a fyi for those who like to test ya football knowledge.

Lol. Your right, I should worry about Rumph not recruiting well. Because you can't win with Blades, Hall, Frierson, and super overrated Ivey. I mean, how many times did they even throw to Ivey this year, 6 times? They must have thought it was too easy.

Also to add to the spin, the fact that Blades started an all star game just because he was locking down the number one receiver in practice all week is reprehensible. Heads need to roll at UA. I just dont see how we can survive with these non elite takes.

The fact that we beat out Georgia AND Alabama FOR ALL FOUR is a joke. They were obviously not takes for them.

END SARCASM.

I've never seen a secondary, make a defense elite. It always starts with the front 7. If you look at statistics, you always notice a defense that has lead in sacks, has lead in interceptions and the defense is elite. If you look at a team with a lot of interceptions, only, they have a weak defense.Fyi, look at our canes. When we had sacks our secondary looked amazing. Honestly talent wise, the guys we have coming in 2018, as a whole, have unlimited potential.

Well we had a pretty **** good front 7 this year and buttcheeks in the secondary, and made a bunch of awful QBs look like Tom Brady.

Do any of you want to win a title? Then it's all important.

We have our top 4 secondary guys coming back next year. (Jackson, Young, Bandy, Dean) So unless you think none of them are going to make any improvements next year and get better..then I guess you are right and not getting TC will be our doom.

I still think the meltdown on grassy when Butch missed on Bryant McFadden & Corey Bailey who I think were ranked the #1 & #2 CB's in the country that year was better than the TC melt. Those 2 were in our backyard and we ended up signing some kid named Buchannan from Lehigh that turned out to be much better than both & a Round 1 pick. I do agree on the front 7. Our DL faded down the stretch last year and it showed up in the secondary. DL is much bigger need. Signing day is still in February right?

Go Canes!

Every game we won and dominated we had pressure, the games we lost no pressure. The Pittsburgh game, no pressure....

Your absolutely right. Context of the post reflects the importance of focusing less on one or two players at a position of recruiting success this year and more on the most important area on any defense. I figured it was apparent a total defense requires skill at all positions.

we could have used byrd and henderson although they showed their true colors. our depth would be good. this year adding all the 4 we have plus jobe, campbell and surtain would make our db solid. its a fact. we can't keep losing top local kids but it is bound to happen. athens is a great place to go to college. it is just a fact. they have virtually NO competition. south GA only has Auburn and northeast has clemson to some extent. GA is in worse position at db than we are and they probably beat that into Tysons head

Can't agree more, OP. Get some heat on the QB and watch the DBs look amazing. We've got enough Jims and Joes.

DBs cannot cover all day, without pressure. It's impossible. Absolutely impossible. I don't care who, is in your secondary. Alabama gets dbs drafted very high. Its not because they are 5 star players. Most Alabama DBs get in the league and they average at best. The only one to even fill his potential is Collins from the Giants and guess what. Look at his front 7. Yes I will take 5 star DBs...Yes I want them..
