Front 7. Thats the Primary concern we should all have. I get the thing with TC, Jobe, and PS2 and blah, blah, blah. But we won't be ANYTHING unless we have ELITE and deep front seven's year in and year out. As a Steelers fan this became reeeealll apparent Sunday. For years yinzers (slang for Pittsbughers) were clamoring for secondary, secondary, secondary. We need safeties, we need cornerbacks, we need this we nee that. So what happened, we spent three early round picks in 2016/17 on Artie, a safety and a nickel. Each one has exceeded expectations (Artie is **** near shut down). And then we signed Joe Haden who is still young and nearly elite and shutdown still.
But what got left behind was front seven depth. We had good top level talent there, but as soon as we had to rotate out we falter. As soon as we lose Shazier (Plantation High School) we become a dumpster fire on defense. As soon as our NT gets hurt s--t is ooooover. If we have depth there, if we have a stable of straight dogs there, we succeed.
Same goes for Miami. Y'all think our defense struggled late in the year because of secondary play? Mind you Redwine got MURKED in the bowl game, Dee struggled early and Malik faded late, but the turnovers, the ability to make plays in the secondary, happens because of what happens UP FRONT. Without the edge rushers containing and bringing heat we falter. Without DT's flushing the pocket and keeping the point of attack, we falter. Without LBs protecting that last line of defense we falter.
It can be TC this and TC that, love to have him but he's not the last piece. Or Surtain, and **** sure not Bama boy. Right now we have top level. Shaq, Pinck, 5-3, JJ, Garvin, Willis. But we need that area to be second to none.
Thats why we need to close Briggs. Thats why we need to close Nesta, Chat, and Chapman and most importantly Thompson. Gimme that Juco DE too. Gimme every able body that can make life **** upfront. Only way we win this thing is relentless force at attack.
DB's are, won't say dime a dozen but **** if you can't find way more DB's than you can trench bullies.
Y'all need to stop worrying about the shiny *Secondary* things and put all the cash on the biggest **** elephants in the room, right upfront.
