saw a few nice things from the young guys

Hes been going against the best wr in college football (JJ Smith) since they were 10. Chaminade had 7 div 1 wrs while he was there...he likely went against better wr in high school daily than he did this freshman year at um lol
This isn’t just about him going 1 v1 against WRs, especially not players on the same team as u in practices. This is about him going a step up in competition. Playing against teams that either have the same talent level as the team that u are on or better, QBs are better, OL is better, RBs are better, the coaching is better. And despite what u said about going against guys in practice it’s not the same as going against a 4 year college football player with a 1200 yard season who gives zero ***** about u. Has he ever been put in a position like that outside of practice were he was responsible for guarding the opposing teams best WR 1v1? Now I rescpect your insight, but not a single WR he played against has had a 1200 yard season at the CFB level. Even if high school highlights tapes ain’t really show him being in coverage like he had to yesterday.

yeah ... i the notion that he played better wr in hs than he did in college is a stretch ... what i will say is his coaching in college hasn't been the best and natural talent won't cut it at this level

I agree, and in no way am I’m saying he sucks. He’s a very talented player. All I’m saying is that at this level you r gonna be put in difficult positions, 1v1 against a veteran WR, no help, the qb is accurate, and has time. It’s just an overall step up and if the coaches don’t prepare u or give u time to develop u get goat.

Mario has signed 13 DBs since he’s been here. Only four have been from South Florida.

One is our best DB by far (Frederique), two have been injured (Mack and Brown) and the fourth is Zaquan.

I’m more upset that we didn’t prioritize De’Angelo Ponds and Xavier Lucas. Both were discussed heavily on here.
Damari Brown stinks even when he's healthy.

He might. I don’t think you’ve been off-base on that take. My view is that he’s probably a safety long-term.

What I’m saying is that South Florida kids haven’t been the reason our secondary has sucked. We’ve gone national there since 2019 and the results have been terrible. The only five guys we’ve put in the NFL during that time span have been from down here.

our inability to get quality defensive coaching is amazing

The kid looks like he has the tools to be a very good in the box safety. Hopefully he gets coached up.

While I agree that its not b/c of just SFL kids .... you lean way too much on the NFL garbage.

Iowa State has how many NFL guys in the back 7 that they had a top 5 pass defense?

A lot of work needs to be done. Still holes in the roster, especially the critical holes in the defensive side of the ball, but even then that side could still be better with better coaching. They need like 7-9 more portal transfers, proven commodities at C, DT, TE, QB, LB, S, CB, DT, and WR.

Some of that is the way Iowa State plays defense. They give up the run and don’t rush the passer so they can drop everybody. Even then, it was target practice when Cam was playing.
