Savion Smith

**** they got Tolliver and now Saivion Smith?

Had mentioned this in a thread a few days ago...

Targets at DB who are uncommitted or committed to another school.

CB:

Dontye Carriere-Williams - Booker T. Washington
Nigel Knott - (MS) Germantown
Trayvon Mullen - Coconut Creek
Antwaine Richardson - Atlantic
Saivion Smith - IMG Academy (Committed to LSU)
Levonta Taylor - (VA) Ocean Lakes
Craig Watts - Gibbs
Malek Young - Coconut Creek

CB/S:

Chauncey Gardner - Cocoa

S:

Jamel Cook - Miami Central (Committed to FSU)
Romeo Finley - Niceville
Jaylon Jones - (TX) Allen
Devin Studstill - Palm Beach Gardens

And then if you want to throw in equations athletes Keyshawn "Pie" Young from Miami High who has an offer and Ivan Smith from Columbus who has interest from Miami and was at Junior Day.

"Pie" Young seems to be leaning to FSU right now and he will be visiting them this weekend and they expect him to commit though.

I'm not sure if they are pursuing Deon Edwards from Lake Minneola at safety but I hope they do.

These are the legitimate targets or the ones Miami has interest or offered that I know of so far at DB. Can be more over time as more prospects come out or more offers extended.

Give me another quality safety and quality 1-2 more corners in this class and I'm happy.

Every DB who comes in the 2016 class has a chance at early playing time.

If it were up to me, try and get Gardner or Mullen in the class and either DCW or Watts or Richardson or Young.

And at safety try to get that stud Finley from Niceville or try to flip Cook from FSU if you can or even really look into Deon Edwards from Lake Minneola who I think can blow up. I don't think Studstill will come here, I don't feel good about our chances with any kid from that Palm Beach Gardens school.

And I would take Ivan Smith as a two way athlete who can play multiple positions on offense or defense and the Killins kid from Mainland. Not including "Pie" Young as he seems to be a FSU lean right now.

All I'm saying. 1 more quality safety and 1-2 more corners and I think we're good.

While I would put Gardner, Mullen, Byrd(Miami) and Smith(LSU) in that same tier as top of the top corners in the state.

Smith is the most polished of them IMO but they are all just as good.

As far as I know. Gardner, Mullen and Byrd have been two way players playing both sides of the ball. Idk if Smith has done that too.

I really want Gardner due to his size and physicality and I personally feel.... The most realistic out of him, Mullen and Smith. At this point.

Gardner gives some versatility too as he can play some safety so he can be considered as a take at safety just like the CB/S we have in James Wiggins.

As for Deion Jackson. I'm taking the wait and see approach but ever since we offered him I have heard lots of good things about him and even more today from SFE peeps and coaches. What sucks is he didn't play last season as a junior so not much to go on. But if the hype is real after I watch him his senior year, I'll put him up there with those guys at corner.

Geo,

I'm thinking we are going to have to look to JUCOs for 1-2 corners in next year's class. Especially if Crawford doesn't return and Artie moves to Safety full time.

Thing is when you go the juco route it's just a quick fix. Need long term. Unless Artie or Corn completely kill it as juniors, I would expect them back and that would be our penciled in starters going into 2016. We'll need 2-3 youngins from 2015 and 2016 to step up.

IMO if they use Artie at safety it will be for certain situations like they did with Gunter on passing downs at times.

I think Artie has the tools and ability, he just needs to learn or be coached on actually making the big play on the ball by picking it off. That's my issue with him. Never looks for the ball. Just like the opposite of what I feel Carter issue is, plays too wild in his tackling form, needs to be more disciplined and wrap up instead of dopey arm tackles. Those two would take off if they fix that in the secondary. And for Tracy to at the very least get back into his sophomore form. Deon I think is fine, and expect even more from him as a senior. You know my love for Jaquan's game as I've seen him for 4 years at Killian. I like Corn a lot and think he could be deadly as an every down nickel against some of the fastest wideouts in the nation. I feel Dallas might be a step too slow for safety sadly but I think he's a great special teams player from what I've seen in the past. Jenkins is a major question mark as his injury was very serious and Dmoneh mentioned to me he needs to get in shape.

Thing is, hope they actually go to the nickel package for when their is 3 or more wideouts instead of throwing a DE over the slot.

The scary thing about your scenario is you assume that Paul Williams will "coach up" Artie who already has many shortcomings for the position outside of speed.

I hope I'm wrong but I just see Artie as a great athlete, but not a natural fit for any football position

Sadly I don't think we have the guy who can do that for them so it would have to come from within. Not a fan of Paul Williams.

With development and coaching I think Artie and Carter could be great because they are both great athletically. What gives me some hope is Deon who is same type of athlete as them has made some strides and been impressive even though I feel he hasn't even scraped his actual potential as well.
