savannah state 3 Troy 66

I would keep Morris in if he isn't looking sharp. I don't care if it's the 4th quarter. Miami will dominate them and probably could beat them never throwing a pass, but they have to get some pressure off Johnson going into the UNC, FSU, VT games.

i'd like to see two quarters max of Stephen Morris looking like it's 7 ON 7 out there.. and then clear the benches.

Empty our bench for this game. Please avoid stupid injuries and be very vanilla.

Why schedule this game, after a bye week, if you're just going to play very vanilla?

I don't mind pulling the starters after the 1st Q, but it's not like the O is running on all cylinders and we can afford to waste this opportunity.

isnt this the team fsu and okie st curb stomped last year?

Yes, probably the worst team in 1-FCS by far. The FSU game was called in the 3Q because of lightning. FSU could easily have scored 100 on them, no lie.

This is not just the worst team in the FCS, they were one of the worst teams in the lower division [below FCS] they came from about 3-4 yrs ago. Only lawdy knows why they even came up to the FCS division.

I'd put a small wager that both BTW and Miami Central would defeat Savannah State at Traz Powell

They lost to Georgia Southern 77-9 the week before. Savannah St. is a joke even for 1-aa standards.

"The gap between us and Savannah St. is the same as the gap between Georgia Southern and Alabama."

-Bandrew
Just to piggy back on my previous post...in 2 games against FBS opponents (Troy & Georgia Southern), SSU's offense has produced 1 touchdown and 1 field goal. They got a safety against Georgia Southern as well.

We aren't the only team to plays these crap teams. Alabama does it every year. Not sure why everyone is complaining? We should be able to get Gus some carries and work on the timing with Morris and our receivers.....and Williams and our receivers.......and Crow and our receivers......and Dewey and our receivers.....and Welch and our receivers.....and Lassiter and our receivers,

You still don't ******* get it. It's not about playing cupcakes.

Savannah St. isn't a cupcake. Booker T would probably beat them.

What possible good is there playing a team like that? We get better experience for guys in ******* practice.

Maybe when we signed that contract we thought USF wouldn't be terrible. I don't know but it seems to be getting more popular with the big schools so why not? Maybe we don't have to pay them as much as we would so other terrible school? We clearly just wanted an easy win and that is why we scheduled them.

IIRC, Savannah State is a replacement for a late cancellation of another team. I found the announcement of the game being finalized on Dec 3, 2012 which is much later than games are normally scheduled. I don't remember which team cancelled on us, if that is what happened.

I hear ya. You said I was trolling last time we had this discussion but I wasn't.

I am this time, just because it has dragged on so long.

I don't know the specifics on why we chose them. I'm sure Golden just looked at the UiF game, how brutally physical it would be, and figured we better have a softy in there to give our guys a chance to recover.

It looks genius at this point, especially if we come out of it unscathed.

Maybe Coley's unit will get a couple of first downs against them. Or maybe he'll choke to death on a pan con bistec.

Cincy? Maybe?

Golden has proven to be a tough coach. I could see him leaving the 1st team offense out there until there is great chemistry being established Whether that's Q1-Q2 or Q1-Q4 will be determined.

For those who are wondering, these games are a huge cash injection to cash starved athletic programs. I expect that Savannah State will stop taking as many of these games once they are able to get to a competitive level against their peer competition. Two things I want out of this - everyone leaves the game healthy and our young guys get almost all the burn.
