Sam Shields

And to think that many of us considered this guy a total "bust" when he was at UM

It just goes to show that Randy was not a horrible recruiter, but he was absolutely terrible at developing talent.

Good for SS.

Okay, so who was it that he couldn't beat out?

So far from the coaching side Mcgriff and Whitt deserve credit for seeing through Shields potential.
Dam Crime that Sheilds wasnt moved earlier. But it all turned out well for the kid.

Shannon hired mc griff so he gets some credit too. now you've gone from giving all credit to shields to mcgriff and Whitt. You are one utterately confused dude/female

"With Randy Shannon’s promotion as Arkansas’ senior associate head coach, he will receive a salary of $400,000 per year.

Shannon made $315,000 annually as the team’s linebackers coach last season before his promotion. So, the pay increase was expected.

New defensive coordinator Robb Smith will earn $500,000 per year, and he has his work cut out for him inheriting a defense that yielded more than 30 points per game. Bielema targeted Smith after former defensive coordinator Chris Ash left for Ohio State."

Look at good ol' Corch!!! Getting a nice little raise! Still not making as much as Alex Collins and not viewed as competent enough to take over at DC for a complete garbage team but good for him nonetheless! The guy always did bleed orange and green....even when he opted to sit on his a$$ in lieu of pursuing other jobs because he didn't want to compromise his UM buyout money.

Good job "developing" Sam Shields nonetheless. The kid obviously had no work ethic though as has been previously established by Joe Whitt's comments. Amazing how that all changed once he got to the NFL. All of a sudden he was open to learning things that some high schoolers are already proficient at. Amazing! That attitude must have been so frustrating for Corch. A lessor Corch would have just thrown him in a doghouse.

Who moved Shields to CB, which is the position where he's now a multi-millionaire?

Who here believes Randy developed talent because shields is the perfect example of how he didn't. Smh too busy throwing guys into dog houses smh. Good look for sam tho

I think you guys have bad memories..lol

Sam Shields played receiver and his issues was his hands and route running. Plus he had off the field problems. Randy noticed Sams ability on punt coverage because he was so physical.

Because of poor recruiting by Coker at the wide out spot left us with using a punter as a wide out. Randy wanted to move Shields earlier but we lacked so much debt at wide out. Sam just was not a natural at receiver. He was quickly passed up by the 2008 recruiting class.

Randy moved him to DB and a star was born. Sam was a very good DB is last year at UM and it was the reason he started. His only issue was finding and locating the ball which is tough for anyone who is new to okaying DB.

he was abused at CB early and often. he was picked on by opposing teams. he got better during the year but i wouldnt call him a "very good DB". he had a lot of potential but was a long way from realizing it at Miami

He wasn't abused and picked on often... He has 1 bad game where Ryan Broyles for Okie killed him(killed every opposing db for 4 years at Okie)... That was his worst game after that outing he was very good for the remainder of the year but battled injuries... People tend to hold on to that one game yet forget some of the many plays he made throughout the year...

He was doing everyone in before his injury man... I remember Sheilds being inexperience trying to jam him... His jam attempt was so weak, Broyles made him look foolish... However, after that game Sheilds improved a great deal throughout the year...

Shields was a Coker committ,Randy was the DC then.

Who didn't abuse Harris is the question.

The answer is way less than the people who have abused coach d's so called defense. I mean waaayyyyy less. You'd think coach d would be in a home for abused and batter'd kids the way his defense gets touched up.
