Sam Shields

Now the 2nd highest paid cornerback in the league after Darelle Revis. Congrats to Stickyy Shields.

Who here believes Randy developed talent because shields is the perfect example of how he didn't. Smh too busy throwing guys into dog houses smh. Good look for sam tho

And to think that many of us considered this guy a total "bust" when he was at UM

It just goes to show that Randy was not a horrible recruiter, but he was absolutely terrible at developing talent.

Good for SS.

Randy actually helped Shields. He took the time to work with him after all the things Sam did wrong off the field.

As far as talent and development, Sam played offense so he was not Shannon's responsibility.

It was not until Randy moved him to DB before Shields excelled. Randy did an outstanding job of getting him ready to play corner.

I think you guys have bad memories..lol

Sam Shields played receiver and his issues was his hands and route running. Plus he had off the field problems. Randy noticed Sams ability on punt coverage because he was so physical.

Because of poor recruiting by Coker at the wide out spot left us with using a punter as a wide out. Randy wanted to move Shields earlier but we lacked so much debt at wide out. Sam just was not a natural at receiver. He was quickly passed up by the 2008 recruiting class.

Randy moved him to DB and a star was born. Sam was a very good DB is last year at UM and it was the reason he started. His only issue was finding and locating the ball which is tough for anyone who is new to okaying DB.

It was actually Coach McGriff who wanted Shields at DB. He tried to move him for a long time. He also tried to move Lee Chambers to CB from the beginning.

Actually this is a perfect example of you not understanding player development and if you don't thing Golden has a dog house then you are even further from understanding how things work. Shields was his own worst enemy and his dad even thanked Shannon for doing certain things to get his mind back on track. There was nothing wrong with the way Shields developed here as a player and if there were development issues they were on Shields not Shannon.

Some people don't know the difference between coaching issues and developmental issues.

You must be a new canes fan because everyone knows that Randy was pushing the kid to convert to corner. However he refused the opportunity until his senior year... The kids most productive year was his senior at corner... For 1 year Iearning a new position the staff did well...

I think Chambers would have been a good corner... Unfortunately, his conversion took place after a coaching change...

Came in under coker i think

He was here under Coke. Remember he caught the TD in middle-of-nowhere-bowl out west...Coke's last game. And Bruce Johnson sealed it with a pick.

What ever happened to Bruce?

This is a testament to Sam Shields and Sam Shields only.

Is this what you believe ? Seems like you give Golden credit for development of players but are you refusing to give the previous coach credit? Either you believe in that line of thinking across the board or you have personnel issues.

You're the one with the bad memory brah.

Only reason why Shields was moved to CB his senior year was because of Shannon's spotty recruiting left the CB position thin and he needed bodies.
Between 2007-2008 Shannon signed 8 WR's compared to 3 CB's. One of the DB's, Wiggins, never made it.

Anyhow, Shields went undrafted besides his blazing 40 time and when he got to GB, this is what his CB coach Joe Whitt had to say about Shields so called "Development" LOL.

"He had no clue. Trust me, no clue,'' Whitt said bluntly. "There was one day, I almost lost my mind."

To teach Shields, Whitt went back to an approach he used as an assistant at Louisville, where he helped turn two former offensive players - Arizona Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes and Philadelphia Eagles safety Antoine Harris - into NFL-caliber defensive players.

"Basically, I got flash cards. I drew a formation on one side, I drew the check on the back side, just like you do in school," Whitt explained. "The next day, I come in, he has a stack of flash cards, two inches deep, and he has everything on it. And from that day on, it was a total transformation because he understood the defense from that day on because he understood how to study.:ohlord:"

But if you want to make Shields getting a hefty raise about Shannon, knock yourselves out.

Once again your full of ****. Mcgriff wanted to move Shields to db earlier but Shields backed at the idea. So there goes your dumb *** theory about recruiting struggles.

If you claim this raise is strictly on Sheilds as you did in your earlier post then your film viewing excuse you tried to blame on Shannon is also on Shields. Like I said before...it's clear you have issues that go beyond football buddy. Your pathetic views and comments run into each other because of it.

Notice how you did t mention the numerous others players specifically db's who didn't have any issues. Matter of fact, randy...I forget his last name who went to the Detroit lions got raver views from the db coach for his ability to understand film.

You inconsistent points of view expose your true self and feelings.

So his "shoddy" DB recruiting got him the number 2 pass defense with a guy who couldn't read film.

I do ask you this. In less than one year what was shields supposed to learn? If anything you should give Shannon credit because he condensed the play book and allowed him to showcase his raw talent.

If shields had played under golden for one year he would have never got a chance to see the field becAuse he wouldn't have understood the playbook.

Do you see what happens when you cater to the players and not the plays.

Congrats to the young man. Kinda glad that tat on his neck doesn't have to go on tour. But he's become as good of a shut down corner as there is in the league. Happy for him.

So far from the coaching side Mcgriff and Whitt deserve credit for seeing through Shields potential.
Dam Crime that Sheilds wasnt moved earlier. But it all turned out well for the kid.

Shannon hired mc griff so he gets some credit too. now you've gone from giving all credit to shields to mcgriff and Whitt. You are one utterately confused dude/female
