Are there any updates on Ryheem Lockley grades? Getting this kid in will be huge. I know the staff is saying he will start out at safety but I would love to see him at MLB.

I didn't realize there were grades issues with him. Are you sure? I agree I want to see him play a little safety. Crushing m'er f'ers

“It’s looking like they’re going to be able to get him in 2013,” Middlesex head coach Josh Franke told InsideTheU.com. “The last thing we are waiting on are his SAT results. It seems like it's a good possibility (that he'll get in to UM this year)."

That doesn't really say anything at this point.
Having followed these things since biblical times, the best advice one can give is to forget all the speculative
statements and wait until fall camp starts.

A nice habit I picked up beginning last year.

The University of Miami has confirmed the addition of Virginia Middlesex athlete Ryheem Lockley to its 2013 signing class.

Lockley (6-4, 220) picked UM over Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia and is expected to play tight end or wide receiver at Miami.

When this article was posted Terry, Paul, & Johnson were all still on this team or there was still hope that they would be on the team. I think the need at LB is far grater than WR or TE. He has played every position in High School, a athlete with his size, speed, and football IQ would excel at LB.

Am I wrong in saying the article from the Miami Herald is from early February and, hence, in no way an "update?"

Also think defenses are more fluid these days and don't need a player to fit exactly into the safety or linebacker box. Doubt he would cover much over the top but could act as a safety that plays near the LOS.

He's not a legit 4.5 kid. Not buying that. He's not S Taylor.

I didn't say he was Sean but my cousin Scott lives in Saluda and has seen him play a few times and says that's legit speed. Plus there's this quote: "Lockley set up the UM visit last week and Franke says Miami coaches "really like his size and speed. As big as he is at 6-4, he runs a 4.52. It's very rare to see a kid his size as fast as he is. I think that's what makes him impressive. He's just one of those football players - a kid you can plug in at any position and he'll be successful. Especially at tight end they like the fact he's big enough where he can be a good run blocker but has the speed and soft hands that he could be a split out wide receiver."

Straight line speed doesn't mean a thing when it comes to these hybrid types that everyone wants to cast as the next "big safety". It's their dexterity and general ability to change directions quickly in open space .

I'd be pretty surprised if he ended up at safety long term. Kid is only going to get bigger

Kid will be on offense for sure.. Too talented with the ball in his hands to put him on defense.

if they put him at safety, we may be looking at another ray ray armstrong.

and nobody wants that.

thanks, Randy. (an actually correct usage of this phrase)
