Running Scheme

I think Jedd stopped calling QB draws after Morris got hurt, he scored* on one against ND and converted against NC State (I think) on 3rd down another time. Fisch timed those really well too.

Fisch's biggest problem probably was too much NFLness in his playbook. So many different concepts. Hopefully he gets Teddy next year so he can wreck **** with a real QB and not what he's working with now.

LOl...yea teddy the savior.

One of my biggest interests going into the season. Very little idea what Coley will do.

If you have an OL that's as big as ours you would let them set the tone, but there isn't much proven depth behind Duke so I can see us throwing the ball a lot again this season.

Contrary to popular belief if you go back and watch last year we ran almost as much Power (1 back, 2 back or counter) and inside zone as outside zone. Plenty of teams use these three concepts as the base of their running game. Another factor to consider as to why we ran more O/S zone is that Duke is an incredible o/s Zone runner. He makes cuts that make the run very effective and we mad a lot of money on it last year.

I wouldn't expect much scheme to change, FSU although slightly more all over the place carried many similar schemes to us

I don't know if that's contrary to popular belief. It's been pretty well stated that like half or so of our run scheme was either inside or outside zone. It's not how much we ran the outside zone. It's when and how we ran it. And, how they asked OL to switch between concepts (a little toss here, a Power there, a draw here) with the frequency of some NFL Olines. I've heard college OLinemen themselves talk about feeling a rhythm. Would you agree that Fisch's offense often had a grab bag feel? Do you think he ever established an identity? I love watching Duke cutback on the edge. He's special there. I also think he can be an effective inside runner when we don't need a pretty play that gashes the defense, but rather 8 yards in 3 plays.

I agree with your last point. Mentioned it earlier: don't think much changes schematically. My hope is Coley keeps it simple(r) in terms of playcalling and identity.

Tough crowd on here. We all act like Fisch just did alright last year. Of all the people in football, on all levels, he was chosen to be 1 of 32 NFL offensive coordinators. Guy did pretty well for us.
Our offense wasn't the problem last year. We all know what the problem was and it had nothing to do with play calling.

He's extremely talented. Don't think anyone has ever denied that. His concepts are fantastic.

If Coley is half as good as a coordinator as he is as a recruiter we will be just fine.
If he's as good watch out.

Jedd got hired because he has an incredible football mind and has an insane amount of upside as a coordinator, but he was definitely still feeling his way around being in charge of an offense last year. Consistency and the intermediate passing game were both issues for him. Jedd got a little idolized after last season but during it there were definitely people who had issues with what he was doing. Was nitpicking to an extent, but he wasn't perfect here. Not sure if you saw it but I also praised Jedd in that post. He was a very good offensive coordinator, and I think if he was here for another year he could have done something really special, but he has some major issues while he was here with play calling (which is to be expected of a third year coordinator).
