Running Game

This is how so many of our run formations are set up. You're just running into a sea of people of 1st and 10.

And Fletcher and Martinez don't have great vision. Martinez eventually takes this to the left, instead of the right. Fletcher would do this a bunch as well. I said last week, a lot of these plays look like they should be counters because of how the holes open and the blocking scheme, especially with the receivers. It's weird.

The next play here is a TD but you can see, if you wanted to run, this would be successful. They need to take advantage of the spacing they have and the down field threat.

Immediately post snap if this was a handoff then Martinez gets a big chunk of yards.

highlighting what everyone has said. our run formations are all tight and overly obvious

Ah yes, statistics pulled out of context to try to make a point. Nevermind that Brashard is A) playing a different position and B) is playing in an offense tailored to him and C) plays in an offense that stinks at passing. We are also down a starting LT and the LG is also a fill-in as Rodriguez was the starter to begin the season. McCoy has played well; Bell has not. Again, let's be sure to exclude those details too just to make a point.

My favorite porst on this thread? The one with the stills of the passing TD that "Immediately post snap if this was a handoff then Martinez gets a big chunk of yards.." Are you phvcking kidding me? We scored a long TD on the play, but man we could've had a chunk play had we handed it off. I'm glad we didn't because I'll take a TD 100/100 times over a chunk running play in that stutation.

Lastly, no way @fraggle is a real person porsting his own thoughts. He is a clever, conniving troll that stirs the mierda on occasion in order to make a stink. For my Latin amigos, él es un troll inteligente quien perturba la mierda ocasionamente solo para crear un olor feo. I almost admire his tenacity and commitment to stupid commentary solely for the purpose of getting people fired up. Almost

I am starting to feel like we have a large enough sample size on Martinez to say he is not the clear number-one RB on this team.

Short yardage --Give me Fletcher all-day. Break away threat- Give me Lyle. Best hard nose runner - Maybe Allen.

Martinez is good but not what I expected.
He just doesn't fit in this offense and Mario/Dawson are handcuffing the offense by continuing to put him in at the beginning of games. He needs to be the closer not the starter.

Dude, it's an example of the spacing we have on some of these pass plays. I literally said it was a TD and I'm not suggesting we should have ran on a TD play. The point of my post is to highlight the formations we're running and how when we spread out there's better opportunities to run than the formations we're using most of the time.

They have to be able to run, regardless of how effective the passing game has been so far. They'll need to have it figured out really soon because eventually the pass game is going to suffer.

when we run is very predictable which allows the defense to have 8-9 defenders in the box. cam needs to be provided the ability to audible and get out of the run plays when the box is stacked.
Predictable, tight splits, lack of vision are our three biggest issues.

Predictability/Scheme should fix most of our issues based on what I am seeing. I don't think it's a talent issue. The scheme isn't made for Martinez, but there is things we could do to make it easier on him and the offensive line.

Dude, it's a poor example. I just took the low hanging fruit and ran with it, but since you're trying to make a point, try this on. We were in a 4 wide set, with Cam in the gun and the RB next to him. That means no TE, aka only 5 OL. There were 6 in the box, 4 guys on the wides and a safety up top vs 5 OL. Yes this is preferred to 8 in the box, but it's still a mismatch. All the teams we've played so far have planned to take away the run from us and force us to beat them with the pass. So far we have done well, as Cam's stats would corroborate.

Furthermore, we are the 11th ranked team in the nation in average yards per carry @ 5.9. That is for everyone on the team and includes outliers as well as the crappy teams we've played....just like the other teams that are ranked. It also includes several short yardage TD runs that skew the numbers down. That's pretty elite. Don't like the word elite? Ok, it's really really good.

Want to know why there's such a panic amongst some of our fans regarding our running game not being good enough when it actually is? Because the passing game is so elite, so explosive and so awesome that the running game pales by comparison.

It's not personal Sonny, it's business.

There aren't enough holes being opened x 3

Eh....it looks like that sometimes. But if you go back and watch...our 2 best backs have lacked vision at times.'

It's part of it, but an oversimplified solution. VT was the first game where I though we lacked effort on the OL at times. VT front 7 out efforted us on many plays.

Yes oversimplified on my end, but not false.
I'm not sure who you're including as our two best backs, but Martinez tap dances at the LOS and Fletcher has no wiggle. If those are the two, I would point to the lack of lateral talent more than vision, but I'm nitpicking. If you're including Lyle, CJJ or Ajay, then the story changes a bit.

I totally agree with you on the effort side vs VT. It was a little perplexing, but in fairness, VT also had the best DL we have seen thus far and likely will see all season (until the playoffs).

Martinez almost killed a Florida DB. we have a QB throwing for nearly 400 yards a game. Last year Mario was a caveman who only ran the ball down people's throats. now we air it out and no one has been able to stop it and it's Mario doesnt run the ball.

we have also had Cooper struggle with some injury and rivers out.

"Martinez has bad vision"
Meanwhile He and Parrish have probably had the best vision of any of our RBs in the last like what 6-10 years?
But maybe it's just me that thinks that lol
