To me our backfield look like a leprechaun to me.
Duke, Clements, Crawford are little dudes
Elder would fit right in but he's going to redshirt
Lol this OP said nobody has shown to be real threats then brings up Walter Tucker as the solution lol hilarious
Eduardo Clements and Dallas Crawford are great 2nd and 3rd options at RB.... VT would be glad to have both as starters right about now. Eduardo even though he isnt a 210lb running back runs like a strong power back w/ some shiftiness to him. I think the RB position is fine especially when u throw Gus Edwards in the mix.
Al Golden said that WR depth concerns him which is a valid concern especially if we are going to run spread formations.... I think Corn Elder would be perfect for the slot wr position.
Walter Tucker best position on offense is FB.
The problem with Clements is he has no vision. A battering ram is really all he is good for but can his neck take the punishment. Crawford seems to go down from a slight breeze. Elder has the vision and shiftiness that we need but first came the trial at CB and now talk of moving him to the slot. Why not try him at his natural position? Hopefully we can rely on Gus to give Duke a blow.
I disagree with about everything you just said in regards to Eduardo and Clements....
Eduardo Clements has good enough vision, good balance, and attacks wholes hard. He's good enough to handle his role effectively.
Dallas Crawford has very good balance, shifty as **** and definitely doesnt go down w/ a "slight breeze"
Corn Elder may have more upside at RB then both of those 2 but he aint better then both of them right now at rb... he is too small and would need a redshirt just to gain weight. His natural position is on offense, he's not a natural rb, he's just a natural playmaker. He could excel at WR just like at RB imo. He can also be a very good cornerback... an all around great athlete.
Also Mo Hagens also brings a different dynamic to the rb position b/c he will get the ball this year..... and Gus Edwards is going to be a playmaker. UM doesnt need Corn Elder at RB at all especially after the next class comes in.

I noticed that you said good enough vision to handle his role, which is basically lower his head and get a yard or so. He has a tendency to seek out contact when he could have avoided it.
I totally agree with what you said about Crawford except he does go down easy. Admittedly, I haven't had the opportunity to see much of him this year so maybe that has changed with some strength & conditioning.
I never said Elder should be thrown into the fire. I agree that a redshirt is best for him but I seriously disagree with the comment that he's not a natural rb. You are also counting on a '14 class that hasn't inked yet. While I have even higher hopes for RB in that class, we all know things can change in a heartbeat.
From everything I've heard, Elder looks very impressive at corner. Possible future star if he continues to improve.
Clements is Clements. And that's all he's ever going to be. Kid has some moves, but no vision, as someone else already posted. Im also concerned about his health situation and wether he can endure the season. He also doesnt have the size we need for a between the tackles consistent "grinder". He's no Mike James, IMO.

He's actually better between the tackles than Mike James was. That's why he took the short yardage gig from him a couple years ago toward the end of the season.
I'm excited to see what Crawford brings to the table. Seems like he's a potential game breaker.
Elder is probably going to stay at CB, and in reality, that's probably the best place for him right now. If we moved him to RB, he would be a scat back, his frame is very slight, IMO, his body is better suited to CB.

I think people are sleeping on Johnson, the Iowa transfer. Don't see why he couldn't be a short yardage or emergency back good for about 20 carries this year.

He's not a 50 yard gallup kind of game breaker; he's more of the 15-20 yd game breaking type.
/different kind
//i'll take it
